This is one thing I've always wanted to see in Duluth. We booked the train from Fitger's and it made it so much easier than sitting in traffic or finding parking with all the events happening in the area. There is also a gift shop on site that had some really great priced items to take home! See more..
  2. 4.0 Minnesota Renaissance Festival (15 reviews)
    - Good, campy fun

Looking for some campy medieval/renaissance fun? Looking no further! Filled with comedy acts, shops, jousting, people in costume, and most importantly, festival food, the MN Renaissance Festival is the place to be! If you're looking for authentic history, a good archive or museum is probably where you'd want to start. Like most renaissance festivals in North America, this is sort of a mashup between medieval, renaissance, folk, and fantasy. Generous selection of shops and food. Areas for walking can get somewhat muddy if it rains. Bathrooms consist of port-a-potties, so you have to be ok with that if you plan on spending more than a couple of hours here. Pet friendly! 3. 5.0 Crow Wing County Fair (1 review)
    - An awesome place with rides, history, exhibits and machinery just like the Minnesota State Fair used to be!

    Crow Wing County Fair image
We loved taking a day away from the lake and meandering through this fabulous home town fair. At the beginning, the Crow Wing County Sheriff had a great display of all their gear. The rides looked and sounded a little creaky, so, ya, there’s that, we heard some metal-on-metal sounds. There’s all the usual stuff in the exhibits; mini donuts, dining halls, honey sales, pull tabs, farm tractors and animals. The Historical Society really had some interesting things like a cabin that was inside a home being torn down in downtown Brainerd. There was a real blacksmith shop in an antique blacksmith building that had been moved there. Many political booths dotted the whole place. They have grandstand shows, there was Baja buggy races the night we were there. There is no admission unless you want to park on the grounds which is five dollars. One booth was dedicated to saving the largest poured water tower which exists in downtown Brainerd and is under threat of being torn down. Another booth carried on the continuing dispute over Native American rights on Lake Mille Lacs. One exhibition hall was dedicated to bunnies, another to poultry. They have cows and llamas. Some displays in the merchandise building are just stuff for sale. You’ll find a giant carved corn cob at the west end. A fun tradition we hope to continue. See more..
