This spot was difficult to find, but so glad we didn't give up. We saw it on trip advisor and drove back and forth on Scenic 61 looking for it. When we finally found it, we felt it was well worth our time and effort. The lake was very calm that day, so we didn't see crashing waves, but it was gorgeous non the less. We relaxed and enjoyed the scenery for at least an hour. Here are directions that I hope are clear. Between Duluth and Two Harbors look for Lake County 222, which is Stoney Point Dr. It's dirt road. It's at about mile marker 15, although you won't see the mile marker on the scenic byway, only on the main highway 61. IT'S REALLY WORTH IT! See more..

This is the last, best remaining stand of the big woods which used to cover much of Minnesota and Wisconsin. It is a forest of towering red oak, ironwood, butternut, maple, elm, and basswood with nice trails winding along a river and a lake. In the late spring, Trilliums, hepatica, bloodroot, and dutchman's breeches grow on the forest floor. See more..
