  3. 5.0 Sarah P. Duke Gardens (2.188 reviews)
    - Beautiful Grounds, Scenic Views, Serene Environment
    Gardens
    Sarah P. Duke Gardens image
As part of a day of celebration for my daughter’s birthday, my family and I decided to visit the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. There is no cost to visit these gardens; however, there is a parking fee of $2.00/hr. There is parking available at the main garden entrance area as well as a designated overflow area. Parking could be a bit limited so carpooling is a great idea, and the bus also runs there These gardens provide a serene atmosphere, beautiful sceneries, a peaceful and relaxing environment, and the opportunity to see some wildlife. There are also great areas for a picnic. I would recommend that you give yourself at least 2 to 3 hours to explore all of the grounds as it is huge and requires a lot of walking. We had a marvelous time and will visit again. What a great way to start a birthday celebration! See more..

International Civil Rights Center & Museum image
The International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM), located in Greensboro, N.C., is an archival center, collecting museum and teaching facility devoted to the international struggle for civil and human rights. This national landmark and national site of conscience celebrates the nonviolent protests of the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins that served as a catalyst in the civil rights movement. Our vision is to memorialize the courageous stand of the Greensboro Four as they launched, for posterity, the sit-in movement Feb. 1, 1960. We hope that the ICRCM, with its focus on the sit-in activities at the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro in 1960, will inspire the vigilance and fortify the spirit of all oppressed people to step forward in the ongoing struggle for human freedom. ICRCM is now offering guests the options of either a convenient Self-Guided Tour or a Professional Docent / Staff-Guided Tour. See more..

    - Historical Motorcycle Museum
Temporarily closed - Closed until Apr 6, 2023 Speciality Museums
Wheels Through Time Transportation Museum image
This is one of the best motorcycle museums in the country. The museum consists of all American made motorcycles from mostly the early years. There’s a whole days worth of bikes to see and hear. There’s guides walking around the museum that will answer any of your questions and on occasion they’ll even start some of the bikes as this is a museum in which almost every bike is still in running condition which is great. I brought in a picture from my grandfathers old Indian motorcycle not knowing what year it was and they were able to tell me it was a 1931 Indian V4 which was amazing. So many beautiful, historic and rare bikes that you’d have to see it to believe it. If you love motorcycles or just transportation just history for that matter then I highly recommend coming here for a visit. See more..

    - The best experience!
Sunday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
    Kersey Valley Zip Line image
What could have turned out not so happy, was turned into a wonderful experience! We were not completely informed about the escape room situation when we called the day before. Unfortunately due to covid restrictions only one group that comes together can go into room at one time-we understood but we’re not given information the day before. Rather than not allowing us to participate-which was the only reason why we drove here- the staff called in an employee and happily set us up in the autopsy room. Pam was cheerful and helpful and so kind to our family when she worked with us. She came in during her time off to make sure we had a great experience!! See more..

He also explained what the symbol of different buckles on the uniform stands for. We went on a short trail to a gazebo through the wooden walkway. It was a nice view of Beaufort and etc... See more..

    - Absolutely Beautiful!
    Educational sites
    Duke University image
THE most beautiful campus I've ever seen. We were on a road trip, but since we had our high school kids with us, we stopped at most universities along the way just so they could get a glimpse of different campuses. Duke University was by far the most beautiful one. The architecture, the grounds, everything is amazing. We were there during the Christmas holidays so the book store was closed, but we were still able to buy some gear at another shop in town. Would definitely recommend a visit. See more..

    - Post COVID, Same Fun Time!
Sunday: 11:00 AM - 11:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Game & Entertainment Centers
    Urban Axes Durham image
I was excited to come back after I heard they opened up since COVID hit, and it did not disappoint! Doors at the front were left open to freely circulate air, all staff wore masks at all times, hand sanitizers were readily available, and our group was placed more than six feet apart from the other guests. I felt completely safe. We had Bradley as our instructor and guide and he was PHENOMENAL - very personable, patient, and knowledgeable. My parents were newcomers to axe throwing and my sibling has autism and he went to great lengths to make sure everyone in my family had the proper technique and was having fun at the same time, even if it involved repeating himself over and over again. Bradley is a true gem and I’m so glad to have this business back up and running during times like these. We will be back! See more..
  21. 5.0 Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry (514 reviews)
    - The Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry Makes for a Fun Day.....
    Ferries
    Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry image
My wife and I recently took our granddaughter for a ride on the Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry and then lunch at the Provision Company. She had never been on a ferry so it was a totally unique experience for a 2 1/2 year old. Once the ferry got under way from Fort Fisher we exited the car and went up the stairs to the passenger viewing area. It was real nice out and the water was calm so the ride was very relaxing. Our granddaughter enjoyed the view and all the seagulls that were following us out on the river. Plus a little blackbird landed on the railing right next to us and she thought that was real funny. The Southport-Fort Fisher Ferry is operated by the North Carolina Transportation Department and they do a real good job....The ride was inexpensive, safe and a nice way to get out and enjoy the beauty of the area.... Cameron Indoor Stadium image
Our daughter asked her mom and me to go with her to her graduation from Duke Divinity School this past May. She brought her oldest son with us so she could show him the Duke campus. She took us to Cameron Indoor Stadium, where several graduation ceremonies were being held during the day. She and her husband are big Duke fans and had attended Coach K’s second to last home game, his last home win. Cameron is a beautiful arena. Walking around the concourse is like going through a museum with all of the historic displays and photographs. I enjoyed seeing the facility in person after seeing it so many times on television. 27. 5.0 The Wildland Trekking (279 reviews)
    - Beautiful Trip
Hiking & Camping Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    The Wildland Trekking image
Last week I did Wildland's Fall Colors in the Smokies with their guide Francisco. It was a beautiful trip. I traveled solo and it's a roll of the dice who your fellow travelers will be, but we had a great group. The weather was unseasonably cold and the first night temps went down to 9 with the wind chill. Francisco is so experienced (Triple Crown Hiker), I felt completely safe in every way. I was really impressed how keenly aware he was of where everyone was at, physically and mentally, and how he kept everyone relaxed and entertained while he did basically all of the work, catering for 7 people single-handedly. It's a special person that can deal with all of that. I used a combo of my gear and theirs which was fine. Food was delish. And the Smokies are complete heaven. Do the training. I didn't have time to do all of it, but was so jazzed to be there it didn't matter. See more..
  28. 5.0 The Dan River Company (277 reviews)
    - Gem of the Dan River!
Sunday: 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM Water Sports
    The Dan River Company image
The Dan River Company is a gem of the Dan River. There is no better way to paddle this part of the river. We’ve used their shuttle services twice. We’ve floated down on both canoe and kayaks. The river is beautiful. The rock formations are spectacular. The Dan River Company’s private access is so much better than the drop off at the bridge. A few bucks and these folks help you with everything from loading/unloading to getting out of your vessel at the takeout and hauling it up to your car. They love what they do and thoroughly want you to enjoy your trip. Try them out and you’ll be back every time you want to paddle your way down this beautiful part of the river. See more..

  39. 5.0 Triad Park (137 reviews)
    - Beautiful and convenient park
    Spent 2-3 hours Parks
    Triad Park image
This is a lovely jointly owned park of 426 acres, part located in Forsyth and some located in Guilford. It is pleasing and has a wide array of attractions. Two improvements recommended: maps need to be more accessible, and more trails need to be built in the woods; they have several beautiful ones but there is plenty of room and terrain for more ... there have been no new ones for years, and the current ones are very busy; woodland trails are a low intensity use and cause minimal interference with the environment. I meet some friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon for the tour and tasting. Was quite surprised to have some excellent rum. Not a big fan of the silver rum (1st tasting) but everything after was completely amazing. The basil was my favorite and the Queen Reserve. Very impressed with the coconut and spiced. If you are looking for a great rum for eggnog, their spiced would fit the bill and then some. Keep your shot glass! Owner gave the tour which was great hearing the history. See more..

Pace of the race was much slower than other tracks I have been to and the level of fan enthusiasm was very low. I was so impressed by the staff and the facility, but not enough to fly across country again See more..

  48. 5.0 Carolina Ziplines (101 reviews)
    - An Afternoon of Family Fun
Sunday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Zipline & Aerial Adventure Parks
    Carolina Ziplines image
My wife, my sisters, my brother in law, and I were in the area to attend a wedding. We had an afternoon to fill the day before the wedding so we booked a zipline tour with Carolina Canopy Tours. My wife and I had previous experience, but the rest of the family were first-timers. Keith and Bailey provided us with sturdy harnesses, plyable gloves, a bottle of cold water and helmuts for our adventure. Both Keith and Bailey were very knowledgeable, providing clear instruction so that our experience would be safe, memorable fun. Keith is a wisecracker and very humorous. The zipline layout was located in beautiful trees and hills. There was a variety of distances and heights, so that each zipline provided a fun experience that built up confidence for the next usually longer and higher zipline. Both Bailey and Keith provided guiding, ancedotes, and special attention to safety while we all had great fun . All of our family had a fine time and hope to return again. Well done Keith and Bailey! 49. 5.0 Temple Theater (100 reviews)
    - That's entertainment
    Sunday: Theaters
    Temple Theater image
If you're new to town or need a fun activity for out-of-town guests, check out the Temple Theater. I saw several shows here recently and always look forward to my time here. It is good quality, family entertainment and I found everything to be comfortable. Director Peggy Taphorn is a class act and always says hi to everyone and is so inviting. Make sure to stop by the Chocolate Cellar next door with your ticket (before or after the show), they will give you a sample truffle but you'll be tempted to buy more (and please do support local businesses as you can). - I totally recommend this tour
Sunday: 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM Ghost & Vampire Tours
    Salisbury Ghost Walk image
We had an amazing time learning some of Salisbury’s town history and doing a little ghost hunting as well. I even captured a shadow figure using my phone camera. I went in as a skeptic and was surprised by what I captured. We loved our tour guide. He seemed very knowledgeable and I felt totally safe. Overall we loved the tour. See more..
