We brewed our first batch of beer in 1980 in Chico, California, the lush forests of North Carolina far from our mind. Over three decades, folks tried our bold beers and deemed them fit for friends across the country. In time a second brewery became the wisest, most sustainable way to send fresh beer to the farthest reaches. Today you can venture inside our Mills River brewery to trace our history as a craft beer pioneer and see first-hand our drive to make flavorful beer the status quo. Cruise up our wooded driveway, park under a solar-panel canopy, and head behind the scenes with us. Our tours fill up quickly! 4.5Old Mecklenburg Brewery(275 reviews) - Old world charm yet modern feel! Sunday: 11:00 AM - 10:00 PM Breweries
I love that this place has old fashioned beer hall charm that is mixed with a little bit more modern of a feel. Our server was very friendly. The food was soooo good. My friend hand a rueben. She also said the pickle was probably the best pickle she has ever tasted. I had the “American Style” off of the German Fare menu. It was delish. The mecktoberfest was good too. The outdoor area is so beautiful especially at night all lit up. There was live music playing and fire pits going and so much more. Wish we could have stayed longer than we did. It we are only in town for the weekend.See more..
I liked the great “beer hall” layout of this place. It was definitely popular, as it was very crowded on a Tuesday evening. The beer was very good. The place was dog-friendly, which is a plus in my book. I also thought the food in the “attached” food place (Twisted Eats), was very good...the chicken friend rice was a large portion, and very tasty. Definitely a good brewery option.See more..

4.5Aviator Brewery(76 reviews) - Best Craft Beer in the Raleigh-Durham area! Sunday: 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM Breweries
I have visited many of the other local breweries in the area and most just have one or two good brews and the rest are just okay or worse. Aviator is the only brewery where all the different brew lines are consistent in taste and quality. Even types of beer I would not normally drink are very delicious. The brewery and bar in downtown Varina have a great atmosphere for outside seating and dogs. Also, the beer shop has opened across the street with an excellent selection of craft and import beers as well as premium cigars.See more..

We attended Cabarrus Brewing's Octoberfest celebration this weekend. They brewed up two special beers for the occasion, a great pilsner and and equally great Octoberfest. And they had their usual 12-14 different beers to choose from as well. The MasterBacon food truck was there with their special German menu. And there was some mighty fine music all evening. The inside has been designed like a German beer hall with long tables and benches. There is a decent sized deck outside with many picnic tables. So there are plenty of spots to sit and enjoy a nice cold one. Don't miss this place when in Concord.See more..

4.5Bull City Ciderworks(45 reviews) - Just the best Sunday: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
This spot is consistently amazing - which I guess is easy to see by their now rather rapid expansion in NC. Ever expanding list of amazing ciders, great staff, great pet-friendly locations inside/out. This spot is hard to top in Durham. The only negative is that parking for this spot, particularly on game nights, has become a bit of a nightmare with all the expansion going on in that area of town. Will happily stop in every time I'm in town.See more..

Very pleasantly surprised! We are doing the Yadkin Valley Wine Passport and this is one of the stops. We had visited Round Peak Winery, their sister location and we’re not impressed so we were not looking forward to Skull Camp. We had their smoked chicken wings which were amazing. And the beer and wine offerings here seem much better than Round Peak. Hubs had the beer flight and I had the wine. The sonker dessert (like a cobbler) is wonderful. Nice sports bar atmosphere . Lower level has a fireplace. Very relaxing afternoon stop. The young lady who greeted us was very knowledgeable about the passport program and the food and drink offerings. Nice place to stop in Elkin!See more..
Well I had to try out their 2 Stouts and Mexican lager. The oatmeal stout was a little too chocolatey for me for the hint of coffee, which I am not a fan. However their peanut butter stout was delicious. Too bad it was 11% alcohol. I’m not happy with anything above 7% unless it’s wine or tequila. Nice little place to hang out and friendly staff. 4.5Oak City Brewing Company(28 reviews) - Nice brewery with great outdoor space Spent 1-2 hours Breweries
This place was a great find! We were meeting friends halfway between I-95 and Durham, and wanted an outdoor brewery, dog friendly. There is a ton of outdoor seating and it sits alongside a big park. There was lots of beer choices and a food truck on site. Very covid safe practices. The best part was the outdoor location, followed by really good beer. I highly recommend.See more..

Our daughter is moving to Apex. When she told us that there was a brewery in the neighborhood I was leery. What a nice surprise! We visited two evenings sat outside of this welcoming brewery. There was a food truck, couples, families, empty nesters and some dogs. The beer was delicious and I can't wait to return. So happy our daughter is going to have this gem just down the street from her house.See more..

Made it far enough west of the NC coast to escape hurricane Hermine. This was the only craft bottle shop I found. Looks and feels like a local craft beer and wine hangout. There was a group of what sounded like a home brew club chatting about their concoctions. Friendly and chilled place. Great selection of bottled beers from across the country and it appears to be the case for the wines as well. 17 or 18 taps and people were bringing in brews for others to taste. A good afternoon. 4.5Steel String Brewery(17 reviews) - Excellent Beer, Relaxing Patio, Quirky Original Glasses and T shirts Sunday: 2:00 PM - 12:00 AM Spent 1-2 hours Bars & Clubs • Breweries
I have dropped by Steel String several times and always enjoy the beer. I like to try different experimental beers and they don’t disappoint. I like the patio for a good combination of coziness and people watching. Also, the designs on the beer glasses are fun and varied. Adds to the experience. I have gotten some of my favorite T shirts there and the glasses make good presents. All and all, worth a stop.See more..
Today we made it to the downtown location and were really impressed. First, the location is awesome, The Bailey Power Plant building with the Coalpit as an entertainment venue is brilliant. They have managed to take an old industrial building and breathe new life into it. The shared outdoor area is very nice and we appreciate the shade offered by the beams and sunshades. We had been next door ordering our food and stepped in to see what beers they had on tap. I chose the Shift Orange IPA and we went back outside to enjoy the cooler July afternoon. The beer was refreshing and hit the spot. We will absolutely be back and think this would also be a great place to bring out of town guests.See more..

Stopped in not sure what to expect. This place was huge with a general store, brewery, and a restaurant. They had a gorgeous outdoor area that overlooked the river and the woods and the beer selection was more than just Farmhouse Ales. The Java Stout was great. The IPA's needed a little work but they have enough to get me back multiple times. Bar area was rustic but small so keep.that in mind.See more..

I've been eating here semi frequently over the past 3 years and it gets better. They've really focused on quality menu items that mash up ingredients. There are some traditional menu items for those, and they have some fun menu items to be creative. The bison burger was off the charts. It was ground (I like medium or slightly less) and it was executed perfectly. The grilled onion had that nice charred taste with the sweet/savory bbq sauce and topped with thick slices of bacon. Just look at the spinach artichoke dip. Thick, chunky peices with creamy sauce. The pita chips where slightly crispy and soft and fluffy on the inside. And the bison pizza. Are you kidding me? Incredible. Pretzel sticks were eaten in a flash. Service was excellent. We look forward to going back.See more..
5.0Hatchet Brewing Company(8 reviews) - Great Veteran Owned bar with a fun atmosphere Bars & Clubs • Breweries
Went here after dinner with a bunch of Army friends. This is a Veteran Owned bar and you can quickly tell the owners Special Operations back ground once you see the logo. Smaller place with an outdoor seating area. Really unique selection of brewed ales, beers and lagers. More of a mixed drink person, but I chose well in selecting the Augustus Ale? I believe it was. One of the best tasting beers I've ever had. Fun environment and friendly staff. Would highly recommend stopping by any time.See more..
Friendly staff and good beer. The Triangle has many good microbrew options, and Bruëprint is one to go enjoy. There were over a dozen brews tap. The daily special is based on the forest beer ordered that day ... so it is completely random. Not dissimilar to many microbrews, beer is served in plastic unfortunately. There were a couple seasonal barrel brew specials that were very good. Options cover all tastes, so there will be a beer for everyone. Cheers!See more..
We were visiting from Indiana and found this unique brewery. Our server was cool to talk to and loved answering all our beer questions. They also have a little coffee shop area where they roast their own beans - how cool is that?! We really like finding small breweries like this because they are more intimate and usually have a local regular to talk with (had a great chat with a local chap!). Stop by for a beer, it's worth it!See more..
3.5Yester Years(5 reviews) - Well, we tried, we learned and will not repeat that mistake. Spent 1-2 hours Breweries Stopped in for a beer with my wife and adult son mid afternoon prior to a wedding were we were attending. Thinking of a light refreshing beer we ordered some Hefeweisen. Major mistake, epic fail. Instead we were served some dark bitter beer that was nothing what we expected. Fortunately, Old Hickory Hefeweisen was served at the wedding reception and was everything that Yester Years wasn't. Yester Years had 1 bartender which also slowed service significantly. Maybe their coffee is good, their beer and service isn't. The outside seating ans general causal atmosphere was fine.See more..
We love this place and will be visiting again soon. Awesome ambiance, gorgeous comfortable seating inside and outdoors near fountains and a park. There were food trucks nearby and I wanted to spend the whole day sipping and hanging out. My husband loves the Earnhardt Outdoors draft and bought a 6 pack to go. They had good options for non-beer drinkers (me) too and I enjoyed the blackberry wine I bought. Five star experience!See more..

I enjoyed the open area design and the craft beers were tasty and refreshing. Lots of seating for large groups, or small tables for a more intimate time. Big spaces for parties including 2 large areas with separate bars with space for a band if you so desired it. Don't miss out on this hidden brewery!See more..
Great venue. Different styles of seating- indoor and outdoor. The outside patio was super fun. There were many types of games for the guests to choose from. The staff was friendly and very knowledgeable. They had 17 choices of their own beers and a couple of guest taps. They also had Childress wines and three meads to choose from. We tried a couple of flights and really liked each one. The British Golden Ale and the Blackberry cream ale were our favorites by far! We also took home a jar of honey- the head brewer also raises bees- it was excellent! We will be back for sure!See more..
