4.0Nasher Museum of Art at Duke University(247 reviews) - Nice small art museum in a modern setting Saturday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Art Museums
We visited Nasher during Black History Month. The Nasher is to be applauded for thinking outside the box in curating its current exhibits. Many of the exhibits were by artists of color. They were thought provoking and gave my wife and I different perspectives than we were used to seeing at the larger and more well known museums we have visited recently such as MOMA and the Whitney in New York. The Nasher Museum is currently admission free and lends itself to an easy afternoon of viewing art in an airy contemporary setting. The cafe is a nice place for lunch or just relaxing with coffee. Only issue was finding a working parking kiosk in a pouring rain. I don't mind paying for parking but broken machines seem to be a problem throughout the Duke University campus. it might be best to download the Duke parking app and avoid the kiosks.See more..

4.5Hickory Museum of Art(109 reviews) - Sweet spot for art lovers Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Art Museums
This museum is housed in a beautiful old high school. The space is open and inviting with a curved staircase that leads you upstairs to an amazing Folk Art Collection. Many of the artists are from North Carolina and share several similar themes that displayed together as you walk through the gallery. The downstairs exhibitions rotate so you can easily see something new and different each time you visit. This museum is definitely worth the drive to Hickory. Oh, and the museum shop is full of fun treasures!See more..

4.5Cary Arts Center(54 reviews) - So nice to get out to live theatre again! Saturday: 9:00 AM - 11:00 PM Art Museums
We were happy to get back to see a live performance and Cary Arts is a lovely place to do that. I had ordered tickets well in advance so that the seats were on the aisle and 2 that were separated from other seats. It was perfect - didn’t feel closed in. The show was Good Shot Judy, a jazz group that is very talented and they performed as a group as well as with individual performances. It was very entertaining and I look forward to the next one I purchased in November.See more..

This was our first visit to this museum, and will not be our last. This museum is free, with a modest suggested donation. We really enjoyed touring the fantastic mansion that was built in the 1930’s for James G. Hanes, of the hosiery fortune. Mr. Hanes was a major advocate of the arts and willed his 32 acre estate to SEECA to support their mission of proving exhibit space devoted to work by local artists. It has no permanent collection, but offers exhibitions of works by artists with regional, national, and international recognition. My daughter and I were particularly impressed with the current juried exhibition titled FURNISHED, which seems so perfect since N.C. is the heart of residential furniture manufacturing.See more..
I considered it a little hard to find. The outside building doesn’t say the name the name of gallery especially since is inside an university. Free admission. Current exhibition was about Chagall. It had 25 pieces. Really nice art. Short intro video was played before. Good 30 min spent here. Should be promoted moreSee more..
The museum is located in a historic building that used to be the county court house. They have exhibits which change every few months. There is also a room with county history. The building is amazingly restored. The staff are warm and friendly. They have an ISPY game which challenges the children to be engaged throughout the exhibit. This is the type of place you can easily visit all throughout the year with a different experience. Best of all its completely free.See more..
5.0The Small Museum of Folk Art(5 reviews) - See something different Saturday: 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Art Museums
On the grounds of the Small B&B Cafe, no admission fee just suggested donation of $5. You could do a quick walk-through the small space to get a feel for Outsider Art and have a few smiles, or you could stay longer and study every fascinating piece of the collection. I enjoyed it very much. Humor and color abound, as well as angels, devils, and a good number of Elvises. Everything is very neatly displayed and clean - it must be a real chore to dust!See more..
