4.5Rankin Lake Park(115 reviews) - Great Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
OK listen here I'm part of all that shooting , we don't like shooting while all you park goers are making tons of noise and breaking our focus , try and keep it down , and just remember we were here before you were so if you don't like it , leave , plain and simple ! See more..
4.5Midnight Hole Falls(71 reviews) - Best stop on our Smoky Mountains trip! Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails • Waterfalls
We LOVED this place (did it twice on our 4 day trip - that good)! 1.5 mile hike, not horrible but a small incline on the way in and definitely have to watch your footing throughout (2 adults and kids 14, 11, 7). Good path along the stream with peaceful views and sounds (river). Probably took us 40 min to hike to the falls at a leisurely pace. The kids LOVED being able to jump from the 15? foot rock into the cold water. Not overly crowded (mid August) but a few other families/people. We could have spent a full day there easily but our kids love adventure, jumping, and climbing. This was our #1 spot during our trip and highly recommend!See more..
5.0Reservoir Park(63 reviews) - Great Place to Walk Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Parks
We live within a couple of blocks of the park. We take our two rescue dogs for walks around the lake. The paths are nice and wide and well maintained. There were other walkers as well as joggers, some even pushing strollers so their kids were getting exercise as well. See more..
4.0Lake Wilson(47 reviews) - Lake Wilson - A perfect place for a walk, a run, to kayak or just watch nature Bodies of Water
The City of Wilson has recently upgraded Lake Wilson and there's a 2 mile walking path around the entire lake. It's sunny in some places, partially shaded by pines in others and fully shaded by the walkway in front of residential areas. It's a fantastic place to go for a walk or a run, to fish or to kayak (there's even a special kayak launcher to make that easier) and there's even frisbee golf there (don't know much about it but it looks fun). While there's also a small playground the "crown jewels" of the park are the brand new serpentine bridge that crosses the lake along with the beautiful walking path. Don't miss out on this little-known but really nice oasis of a park right here in Wide Awake Wiltson.See more..
4.5Apex Community Park(44 reviews) - A Very Comprehensive City Park with Great Lake Trail Bodies of Water • Parks • Hiking Trails
Apex Community Park has about every facility available other than a swimming pool. It has two ball fields, two soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts, a fitness trail, two playgrounds and a nature trail around a lake. There are also three restroom facilities one near the entrance and one at each end of the lake. The lake trail is a 2 mile long paved trail that is very popular. About 90% of it is shaded making it a good trail to hike during the summer months. Overall the park seems to be well maintained as well. Rated high for the trail and all of the different facilities in it.See more..
4.5High Rock Lake(37 reviews) - Fun at High Rock Lake Bodies of Water
Had a great time fishing and spending the day from early morning to late afternoon.Enjoyed boating and seeing wildlife along the shores. Went into some out of the way coves and spotted wildlife and even some bald eagles.See more..
3.5Tucker Lake(31 reviews) - Great PLACE horrible Mgmt and staff Sunday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Bodies of Water
So this is going to be a weird review. Overall, I have to say that my kids love this place. They love it. We stayed 6 hours in the blazing hot sun (bring your own shade as there is none) because they were having a great time. It's all about expectations at Tucker Lake though. Set them LOW and you will have a ball. The equipment is badly maintained- the high dive is rickety, water slide looks like it has never been cleaned, etc. The path from the beach over to the big water slide has gotten treacherous with an apparent earth cave-in over a culvert. The lifeguards are very poorly trained. We watched one girl sit on the high dive stand for an entire shift and never look at the water. There was a cute boy up there with her. They rarely, if ever, bother to watch the kids swim. One did and he was great but not a single female lifeguard actually would have noticed if someone was struggling. The one over at the slide was actually on his phone the whole time. The bathrooms are wretched and far away from the beach so everyone just pees in the lake. I mean it's incredibly red neck so brace yourself. Doesn't stop us from going back though. Weird review-I know. Just put on your low-class expectations and have fun. See more..
4.5Lake Michael Park(26 reviews) - A Hidden Gem in Mebane! Great Park with Lake and Boating! Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Parks
Very quiet park with nice lake which allows limited boating and fishing. Nature trails, great picnic areas and shelters. Has boat access or you can rent a paddleboat/john boat or take a ride on a pontoon boat.See more..
4.5Badin Lake(14 reviews) - Picnic Bodies of Water
We went to the National Forest to ride around and do some off roading trails to make a weekend of it. We went to Badin Lake to stop, use the bathroom, and eat lunch. We cooked out on one of the grills they had there. The grill worked perfectly. We walked around after and took several pictures of the lake. There were people hiking, walking, eating at other picnic tables, and in the water on floats at the lake... we also saw people in boats. It is a great place to visit. Go by there and stop, smell the fresh air, and enjoy the outdoors if you are in the forest anytime soon!See more..
4.5Kernersville Lake Park(14 reviews) - Great day fishing Spent 2-3 hours Bodies of Water • Parks • Playgrounds
We rented a row boat for 3 hours for $3 and had a blast. The lake is stocked regularly with catfish and sports a healthy largemouth population. If you don't want to go out in the boat there's plenty of shoreline fishing, a large picnic shelter, playground for the kids and walking trails. Never seems to be crowded either. Just remember they're closed on wednesdaysSee more..
We went to Kerr lake and stayed for a week. The campsites in the middle are the largest. You can fit larger campers and still have lots of room for extras. The ones closest to the water are very nice but much more cramped. They also have tent areas that are right by the water. We had so much fun fishing, kayaking and relaxing by the campfire. It was full during the weekend. Weekdays were nice and quiet. Bathrooms and dumpster was far from campsites.See more..
Quite and peaceful place to visit. Remember to rent the kayaks. Very reasonably priced. And good exercise.See more..
4.5John H Moss Lake(3 reviews) - Nice small campground Bodies of Water
Nice small campground overlooking the lake. Sites are a little tight but nice. Full electric water and sewer at each site. We we in #7 which is nice but a little unlevel. New kids playground at the campground. Staff were pleasant courteous and helpful. It was quiet for us. Highly recommend for just $20 a night.See more..
4.5Lake Michie Recreation Area(2 reviews) - Nice spot for an afternoon canoeing Bodies of Water • Parks • Hiking Trails
Spent an afternoon canoeing out on the lake with my boyfriend--only $11 for one canoe and six hours! We are both from outside of NC, but I believe if your license has a Durham or NC address you can pay even less. Beautiful weather, not a lot of shade. We were able to spot some wildlife (birds, fish, etc). The woman that helped us at the front desk was very friendly. Due to construction, you have to drive around to park in the parking lot, but this was not a huge hassle. Definitely recommend!See more..
5.0Lake Townsend(1 review) - Must Frequent This Lake! Sunday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
I highly, highly recommend that you go to this lake on a regular basis. The views on the water change by the season as well as by the weather. You will see so many beautiful sunsets looking out over the water. The marina offers rentals of many different kinds during the summer season. And the parking lot is open year-round for lake watchers to enjoy the views.See more..
