The Battle of Bentonville, fought March 19-21, 1865, was the last full-scale action of the Civil War in which a Confederate army was able to mount a tactical offensive. This major battle, the largest ever fought in North Carolina, was the only significant attempt to defeat the large Union army of Gen. William T. For decades, the Henry River Mill Village has sat dormant. On the surface, the once vibrant village appears abandoned, lost, and well beyond repair. Since being built in 1905, there has been a lot of history made in the village, including it's most recent appearance as District 12 in the Hunger Games movies. My wife and I visited Coker early on a Sunday morning, so parking was no issue at all. A few people were spread out on the grounds, but we were able to distance ourselves at all times. We both loved the greenery, and there were more flowers blooming here than at the NC Botanical Garden the afternoon prior. Free entry and accessibility made Coker one of the highlights of our Chapel Hill visit. See more..

Very nicely curated Historic Village. My young son and I visit my retired parents in Mint Hill each summer and this village is right next to the local farmer's market (also great). It's like stepping back into another era. Especially for a citified northerner like me. I especially love going through the doctor's office and my son loves the general store. If you're lucky, you may even stumble upon a group of local musician strumming their fiddles and banjos - WONDERFUL! See more..
