  1. 3.5 Metalmorphosis (183 reviews)
    - Hidden gem!

    Metalmorphosis image
A truly impressive sculpture by artist David Cerny. We are familiar with his many sculptures in Prague so it is a treat to see his work in Charlotte. Reminiscent of Cerny’s Kafka’s head sculpture in Prague which was installed after this one. The sculpture was operational when we visited on March 11, 2018. If you go to the website, there is a Live View camera where you can see if it is working before you visit. The location is a little out of the way, but only one exit away on I-485 from Charlotte Premium Outlet Mall and under 15 minutes away from CLT airport. See more..

Well I don't know if I would recommend driving miles to see it. And they won't let you sit in it. Or climb around it. So you could actually just look at the picture, maybe photo shop yourself in it. BUT it is pretty neat to see if your driving through Thomasville. And there are places to park not far from it. Furnitureland South Mall - The largest furniture store in the world! It is literally a mall of furniture - anything and everything you can want. I have shopped here several times and the experience can be a little overwhelming as it is so big and so much to see. Make sure you allow for at least a couple hours or longer. See more..

  5. 5.0 North Carolina Vietnam Veterans Memorial (24 reviews)
    - A hidden treasure on Hwy 85
    Monuments & Statues
North Carolina Vietnam Veterans Memorial image
On Hwy 85, heading north at about mile marker 100 is a really nice rest stop. Besides having everything a rest stop normally has there is a trail to a Memorial that most people drive right past. After you've had a break, take a short walk down the trail, cross the foot bridge and take a moment to reconnect with the past and the beauty of a tiny park with a wonderful Vietnam Memorial. It's not huge, but it will make you take a moment and reflect. From the flags to the dedicated wall and plaques; the peaceful beauty deserves a few minutes. Walk the circle path inside the memorial, read the plaques, admire the landscaping, sit down on a bench and listen to the silence of nature. And remember who and what was lost in the jungles of Vietnam. See more..
