    - Ice Cream Shop amid bygone rural flair & flavor!
Temporarily closed - Closed until Apr 1, 2023 Spent 1-2 hours Farms
    Gillis Hill Farm image
Truly a jewel of a place out in the country! Ice cream shop is in an approx 100 yr old house complete w/ artifacts used in the 1800's and a sitting porch for relaxing w/ a delicious ice cream. Afterwards, there's a petting area of goats, pigs & horses in a country setting that's much the same it was originally in the early 1900's or earlier. It's like walking thru a very large farm area. Also there were outdoor picnic tables enough for a small gathering on the edge of a pond. Simply an old-fashioned country life experience not usually found in today's modern world. Thank You Gillis Farm for being as you are! See more..

Aw shucks had a lot of other activities as well such as petting zoo, horse shoes, pumpkin bowling, fishing, corn hole, and the haunted trail (although it is not for the faint of heart so I skipped it). It is reasonably priced and just a great way to disconnect from all the hustle and bustle of technology and just enjoy a little bit of country living. - Unexpected Gemstone Mining Experience

    1870 Farm image
The farm was a quick stop to entertain my younger kids while my daughter attended orientation at UNC. Wasn't sure if its open all the time or not so we took our chance and drove in. Turned out we lucked out as the owner showed us the new mining area and we were the first to check out. It was loads of fun and the kids found fossils using a sluice. There was a mine shaft being built but wasn't yet open when we were there but looked fun. The animals were too cute and loved the pygmy goats and the nutty sheep called "Number 7". High Recommend! There is a cooling station in the middle of the farm if it is an unbearably hot day. We happened to be there in the pouring rain. That made it even more fun. We were soaked through and through. - We love the strawberry and blackberry pickin'
    Farms
    Porter Farms & Nursery image
We LOVE Porter Farms! This address is incorrect! Willow Springs is the site of the main location and the satilite farm is on Ten-Ten road. We've visited both numerous times. This year we enjoyed strawberry picking at both locations. We recently picked blackberries at the main farm. I've never seen such big blackberries in my life! They have two varieties they grow and they're fantastic. The same day we picked blackberries, we got the very last strawberries of the season (they were going to plow those plants in the next day). The berries were all super small, but bright red and the sweetest I've ever tasted! We love to buy their tomatoes and blackberry jam. A great spot for fresh produce! See more..

  41. 4.0 Farmer Ganyard Upchurch Farm (1 review)
    - Fun way to spend a day
    Spent 2-3 hours Farms
Visiting a pumpkin farm in autumn is a great way to celebrate the changing seasons. We went to Farmer Ganyard Upchurch Farm with two children under 9. They both had a blast, and it was enjoyable for the adults, too. The kids got to bounce on an inflatable, jump in a pit full of corn kernels, climb a haystack mountain and tunnel through tubes. For smaller children, there is a hay maze. There were barnyard animals like bunnies, goats, and donkeys. We took a hayride to a corn maze and then to a large pumpkin patch where everyone got to pick their own pumpkin. There was also a small cotton field where you could pick cotton. The attractions would appeal to children from toddler through elementary school age. Picnic tables are available, and there is a small farm store with items for purchase. See more..
