If you are looking for an easy walk you will enjoy this 3.1 mile loop along the Eno River and through the trees. It offers wide paved paths, boardwalks, and bridges (with a few natural trails) and is open from 8:00am until a half hour after sunset. It's also part of the North Carolina Mountain-to- Sea Trail. After looking at a map online you can choose from 3 access points - Gold Park at 415 Dimmocks Mill Road, the main entrance behind the Eno River Parking Deck (downtown Hillsborough) at the end of Nash & Kollock Street, and River Park at 140 E. Margaret Lane. You will find informational signs along the trail telling you about the areas history. It's dog friendly but dogs must be on a leash at all times. You can easily make your walk as long or as short as you want. And be sure to keep your eyes open for all types of wildlife. If you need to rest there are plenty of benches along the trail as well as a picnic area. See more..

The only reason I did not give this nice mostly level walk a 5 is the fact that the restrooms at the splash pad were closed, and the large group of teenagers that were there were hanging around that spot. Smoking/vaping and cussing/ yelling at each other. We were there late in the afternoon. We had parked near the old courthouse and walked the square first, then got on the trail at the tunnel and walked to city park. Walking by the group the first time. On our way back I really needed a restroom break but when we got back to the splash pad, to use the facilities we were told by the teens that they MFers had just locked the doors. There were electrical outlets between the two restrooms door and phones plugged into every one of them. Backpacks covered most of the concrete so that even if the restrooms were not locked you would have to crawl over them to get to the door. Not sure where the parents of these kids are/were but it was kind of an uncomfortable situation. See more..

This park is well laid out, with walking trails, football pitches and restrooms, but the thing that most intrigued me was the Disc Golf that was being played - apparently the rules are similar to regular golf, in that there are 18 baskets (instead of holes), and each hole is graded for average number of throws to get the Disc in the basket. I had never heard of this game before, and was most grateful to the young man who explained it to me. See more..

    - Sunday excursion with the dogs

Hidden gem of a Greenway accessible from a couple of different places in Cary. We started from the entrance on Union Street in downtown Cary. It's not long (.8 miles) but there are boardwalks & lots of nature. See more..
