4.5Riverwalk(1.437 reviews) - Nice Walk on a Nice Fall Day Points of Interest & Landmarks
Riverwalk is 1.75 miles long. Only about 1/4 mile of it went to the right from our hotel, so we went left. Birds, boats, the old city, views of the battleship USS North Carolina, restaurants and more are what you see on this pleasant stroll along the Cape Fear River. Try not to miss it if you are in Wilmington.See more..
4.5Tail of the Dragon(1.238 reviews) - Great Drive Sunday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Drives • Off-Road & ATV Trails
What a sweet & special landmark this is. Thank you to all of the people who are cultivating and maintaining this beautiful garden walk. We visited during the time of the “Bunnies on the Bridge” theme for Easter, so my kids were delighted to wander and hunt for all the hidden Easter eggs while I was free to stroll and snap photos of the many cute decorations & flowers. They were so excited that they found over 80 eggs total! The bridge is full of whimsy that will charm all ages both young & old, and reminded me so much of my late grandmother. She loved things just like this, and I wish she could have seen it with me! It’s also a wonderful spot to enjoy views of the lake and surrounding mountains. Be sure to check it out if you’re visiting Chimney Rock or Lake Lure. Open 24/7 year-round, with plenty of free parking. I’d absolutely return again & again anytime we are visiting the area. 4.5Floyd's City Barbershop(465 reviews) - Don’t miss this stop Points of Interest & Landmarks
This is the original barbershop where Andy got his hair cut when he lived in Mt Airy. It is no longer operating as a barbershop but as a tourist attraction. The owner is the son of the original owner. He invites people in to just chat and share the history of the shop and town. He makes sure everyone sits in the barber chair and takes your picture, which he then posts to his FB page. There is not charge to stop at Floyd’s but there is a tip jar available. See more..
4.0Downtown Chapel Hill(361 reviews) - Franklin Street Points of Interest & Landmarks
Franklin Street is the place to shop and dine for college students and couples alike. Right off the main drag you can find Coker Arboretum and Morehead Planetarium as well. Depending on the timing, parking can be a nightmare. But visiting Chapel Hill and not coming here would be a missed opportunity to me. See more..
This is without a doubt the most interesting and creative reuse of a former industrial site I've ever encountered. Using materials from the cigarette factory and it's environs, they created a flowing stream, a pond, and multiple waterfalls. There's even a train car sitting on railroad tracks and an original menu from a snack bar for former employees for 15 cent lunches on one of the walls! The area now boasts a number of different organizations and companies, including Bert's Bees, which has built a model of the tiny house Bert lived in years ago. And of course there are a number of restaurants and a YMCA gym, which has a cool outdoor space for use during the pandemic. Every aspect of the project is lovingly imagined and designed to create a space of great beauty and charm.See more..

4.5Sri Venkateswara Temple(36 reviews) - Very Interesting Temple Sunday: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
My daughter and I visited this impressive Hindu Temple near downtown Cary. At the time of our visit on a weekday evening, we observed we were the only non Indian people there. One of the members of the Temple invited us in. The Temple inside is not that large but impressive. Note that photography and videography are not allowed. Also you may not enter the wearing shorts, skirts, or tank tops. You must take off your shoes also. They do have places to store your shoes near the entrance After exiting the Temple you walk around the compound. Everything is very interesting architecturally and there are some gold elephants and another one on a tower. The towers are very impressive but a new one is being built that is about twice as tall as the others. The people there are very welcoming to non-Hindus. This is definitely worth a visit if you are in Cary See more..

4.5Historic Durham Athletic Park(21 reviews) - historic landmark Spent 2-3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Parks
This little baseball field is where I saw my first Durham Bulls game. It was small and cozy and in my opinion much better than the new stadium. The Bulls played here from 1926 - 1994 (was first called El Toro Stadium). The movie "Bull Durham" was filmed here. The house from the movie is close by. Mendenhall Homeplace represents the legacy of a small community of Quaker tradespeople and farmers who actively opposed slavery, promoted universal education, and labored to create a life of peace and simplicity in the midst of troubled times. This authentic Quaker homeplace includes several early 19th century structures such as: the Richard Mendenhall House (circa 1811), the Madison Lindsay House (circa 1817) - one of our state's first medical schools, the James Mendenhall Bank Barn (circa 1820) - North Carolina's oldest Pennsylvania-style bank barns, and a restored workman's home that is interpreted as a an early one-room school house. Forest Theater is on the edge of the UNC Campus. It was built in 1916 are rebuilt in the 1940's. It has a completely unique feeling merging with the wooded natural area around it. It is an intimate space where you can see and enjoy productions on the stage from any seat. I go annually to see the Paperhand Puppet production. The environmental themes of this show is so suitable for the setting. The seating is stone, so you want to bring a cushion or blanket to sit on, but the seats are wide and there is plenty of room for picnic baskets. As the evening darkens the theater just grows in mystique. If you have a chance to see something in this setting you should definitely do it -- the setting is timeless. See more..

3.5The Historic Railroad House(3 reviews) - lots of different things to see Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
First I would like to say you should probably call ahead to make sure they are open. We go to Sanford on weekends antiquing a lot and on the days they are supposed to be open, they haven't been. Luckily this time they were open so we finally got to go inside. The older gentleman inside was very nice and allowed us to self tour. As we were leaving he was able to answer every question we had. One thing to be aware of is the stairs to the second floor are very steep and would probably be too difficult for a person with bad knees or problems walking. The Gothic Revival building (part of the Depot Park) began as the home of one of the railroad workers and then passed through other owners hands. In 1962 it was to be torn down for a gas station but the people rallied together to save it (thank goodness). Inside you can view fossils (from 150 million years ago), native american artifacts, train items, victorian items, pottery, old farm equipment, and more.See more..
