The International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM), located in Greensboro, N.C., is an archival center, collecting museum and teaching facility devoted to the international struggle for civil and human rights. This national landmark and national site of conscience celebrates the nonviolent protests of the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins that served as a catalyst in the civil rights movement. Our vision is to memorialize the courageous stand of the Greensboro Four as they launched, for posterity, the sit-in movement Feb. 1, 1960. We hope that the ICRCM, with its focus on the sit-in activities at the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter in Greensboro in 1960, will inspire the vigilance and fortify the spirit of all oppressed people to step forward in the ongoing struggle for human freedom. This is one of the best motorcycle museums in the country. The museum consists of all American made motorcycles from mostly the early years. There’s a whole days worth of bikes to see and hear. There’s guides walking around the museum that will answer any of your questions and on occasion they’ll even start some of the bikes as this is a museum in which almost every bike is still in running condition which is great. I brought in a picture from my grandfathers old Indian motorcycle not knowing what year it was and they were able to tell me it was a 1931 Indian V4 which was amazing. So many beautiful, historic and rare bikes that you’d have to see it to believe it. If you love motorcycles or just transportation just history for that matter then I highly recommend coming here for a visit.See more..

This was a really fun stop in Asheville, especially on a stormy afternoon. We arrived at about 1:45pm on a Friday afternoon in July and there were already about 20 people in line. Note they let in 70 people and then you go onto a waiting list. Prior to the opening at 2pm, we were given information and instructions by the owner and then proceeded inside and to pay (there were two lines - one for credit card and one for cash). We then received a wristband and were entitled to free play on nearly all machines. Note you can leave and come back later in the day and you are moved to the top of the wait list which is pretty neat. Admittedly this stop was more on the list for my husband, but I had such a blast too! Playing all the old machines and even the more recent ones were a total blast. Since there is a cap on people allowed we never had to wait for a machine. This was a really well-run experience and one we'd highly recommend!See more..

4.5Bellamy Mansion(621 reviews) - Take guided tour or audio add on Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Historic Sites • Architectural Buildings
We managed to arrive just before the start of a guided tour so we opted to spend the extra money to have a well versed volunteer with a small group. I highly recommend this option as the mansion is more about the history of the mansion, surrounding area and family facts rather than the contents of the home. Our guide was able to gain access to spots that general admission does not allow. We watched many folks meandering around without really knowing what they were seeing. Our experience was much more detailed and provided good insights and information. The Mansion has very little in the way of furnishings so without the extra docent led tour highlights it is not much of an experience. There are a few actual original pieces but most items inside are reproductions or acquired from other locations.See more..

Hendricks Motorsports was pristine and the staff were very friendly and helpful. While at the complex we were able to see special occasion cars or ones that have one races/ championships. While purchasing merch. The staff informed us that we could watch pit practice outback. Number 5 and 24 were practicing while we were there. This was a neat experience because you could see the pit team up close practicing and reviewing their stops. In the upper buildings there were trophies, fire suits and championship rings. This is something to see if you are a NASCAR and Chevy fan!See more..
We enjoyed the NC Transportation Museum. It was very economical, only $12 each for adults to ride the train and tour all of the museums. The train "ride" was a ride around the museum grounds. If you are a true train enthusiast, as we are, the train "ride" was a bit of a letdown. It is only 30 minutes long and it just goes around the property. I think the recorded message about the grounds was started too soon on our "ride." The audio did not match what we were passing. The museum buildings are chocked full of all kinds of exhibits relating to transportation in North Carolina. We enjoyed all of them. As a retired teacher, I can see how this would be a wonderful field trip experience for students of all ages.See more..
Came here with my kids (6 and 4) on a weekday right at opening. Waited around 30 min just to buy tickets (there were only about 10 families ahead of us probably), they just seemed unorganized at the front desk. My kids particularly enjoyed the dinosaur exhibit and the taxidermy animals. Overall, the place was a lot bigger than I was expecting. Also did one of the planetarium shows. It is definitely geared towards children. Think the content was slightly above my 6 year old, but I think that teenagers might be bored by it. So I would say 7-10 years old would be perfect age there. Traveled around an hour to see the museum (from SC) and I would say my kids enjoyed it enough that we will be back again in a year or so.See more..

4.5Joe Gibbs Racing(115 reviews) - Quick, fun trip Speciality Museums
Echoing some of the other reviews, this is a relatively quick visit, which is the only reason it's a 4, not a 5. 1 hour tops. However, the memorabilia from both racing and football is awesome and there is an viewing area that overlooks the shop. The staff is wonderful and it was Denny Hamlin's 2021 Daytona car that was the highlight. Definitely worth a trip. Please note that most shops, including this one, are closed on Sundays and call to get opening times; many of the ones posted online are inaccurate. Also, the shop is closed from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m., so plan accordingly.See more..
5.0Petty Museum(76 reviews) - A MUST FOR ANY NASCAR FAN Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
The Petty Museum is located at the Old Race Shops where so many of those famous #43 race cars were built. It is a wonderful museum that contains a number of race cars that were driven by 4-generations of Petty's. The museum is in two buildings and displays the first car to bear the STP Color of Petty Blue and Dayglow Orange along with the Car that Richard drove in his last race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1992. The staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful and more than willing to answer any questions that you may have. I spent a couple of hours at the museum and feel like that was adequate to see everything that the museum has to offer. I visited in March 2021 and found that the museum and staff were in compliance with all of the COVID protocols that were in place at the time of my visit. I enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend it to any NASCAR Fan.See more..

It is a unique and excellent museum to the legendary Earl Scruggs and includes many photos, recordings, interactive opportunities. An introductory video is wonderful. Admission price includes a set of earbuds for listening to the many audio opportunities. It is housed in the historic old courthouse which stands in the middle of a lovely parklike area and is in the center of the town. It was a spur of the moment decision to leave the Interstate and follow the signs to the museum, and we were definitely glad we did. Price is reasonable and they discount for AARP.See more..

5.0Richard Childress Racing(72 reviews) - Face to face with my love for racing!! Speciality & Gift Shops • Speciality Museums
While my wife and I didn't tour RCR because it's closed to the general public, we did visit the RCR Museum. It has a awesome collection of things about Richard himself, and a TON of collection about Dale Earnhardt; ESPECIALLY cars he drove. This is definitely a must see for any fellow fan of Earnhardt or RC, or ANY driver that has driven for RCR through the years. I had a ton of memories seeing most of the cars on display. We also visited Childress Vineyards while we were in the area, which is a review all it's own. If you're ever around the Winston-Salem area, you need to stop through and check it out.See more..
4.5N.C. Aviation Museum(64 reviews) - Little Museums Deserve Our Support Military Museums • Speciality Museums
This attraction is correctly called "The North Carolina Aviation Museum & Hall of Fame." I have always liked this little museum. This visit was perhaps my fifth over the past 15 years or so. There is an entry fee reduction (unadvertised) for senior citizens. I noted they have a new sign for the museum. The newest additions I noticed were a wall for the Hall of Fame members as well as some very nice, very easy-to-read signs explaining certain exhibits or some aspect of aviation history. There were no new aircraft that I noted since my last visit 6 years ago, but I still enjoyed seeing those aircraft and looking at the smaller exhibits. I noted there seemed to be an addition or two in the exhibit devoted to the Tuskegee Airmen. This visit I took more time to read the small notices accompanying many of the artifacts. Do that if you visit. You won't be disappointed.See more..

OK, so this place is pretty wacky. This is in the basement of a Christian bookstore. The anti-evolution, fundamentalist religion stuff is definitely there in their "collection" but mostly its a very strange agglomeration of old tools, taxidermy and assorted miscellania.
