  1. 5.0 Penobscot Adventures Whitewater Rafting (100 reviews)
    - Best Day of my Life!
Monday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM River Rafting & Tubing
    Penobscot Adventures Whitewater Rafting image
I've always wanted to go white water rafting and thought that if I didn't go in the Springtime then the experience would be a let down. Not so as we hit some class 5 Rapids and many other challenging/ thrilling rapids on this gorgeous wild river that Mt. Katahdin presides over. Our guide, Shawn, was both historically informative and artistically entertaining as we took the all day trip down the waterway. I had zero experience, and recently had a back injury. Shawn was great to encourage me and also have me carry paddles instead of lugging the raft. We had a sumptuous wood fire cooked luncheon along the way with the other boat groups. One of the many highlights was stopping at a beach and walking up to natural rock waterfalls and jumping in to be pulled down the falls! It was optional, of course. Swimming was always encouraged during the more tranquil parts of the journey. We saw river otters, eagles and many other natural delights of the landscape. I will do this trip again for sure! 2. 5.0 Stone Mountain Arts Center (99 reviews)
    - In the actual middle nowhere, this place is astounding

    Stone Mountain Arts Center image
So you're in the no-where backwater of Brownfield, Maine and here, on top of a mountain, on a dirt road, in the middle of nowhere is this great big barn with a bar, restaurant and nightclub. It's a shock to the system. When you park you might be attacked by a goose or a wild turkey. You could see a bear. You're in the woods. And then you get inside. It's really a culture shock. Big bar, great variety and large open area with balconies for watching relatively popular and mid-name bands and groups you would never expect, such as Alanis Morrisette. All kinds of music is programmed here; no seat is bad, you are close up to the band in a way you never would be in Boston; there is waitress service to every table (and they encourage you to get a beer). It's surreal that this excellent place is here. Who woulda thunk it? Truly amazing. They also have flea markets, antique shows and craft festivals and other events at this place. See more..

    Mahoosuc Guide Service image
I can’t say enough about what an incredible 4 day trip I had with Polly and her dogs. She has a wealth of experience and you can truly tell how much she loves sharing her knowledge. I learned so much in the short weekend getaway, about the dogs, winter camping, the land, and life in general. The dogs are well loved and some of my favorite memories will be the interactions I shared with them including our animal communication session. Polly even had tips for how to walk my husky so she doesn’t drag me and it works!! Dave cooked the most delicious camp food and guided us through the gorgeous forest skiing, we even saw some fresh moose tracks. I highly recommend this trip for anyone who has a desire to learn about dogsledding, winter camping, and even getting in touch with the land. What Mahoosuc Guide Service has curated for the winter season is beautiful in the rawest form. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again and am looking forward to what summer brings from them as well!! Moosehead Area Guide Service image
Amber was an enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. She knew where to go. She taught us about moose habits and what kind of environment were most likely to host moose on a regular basis. She instructed us how to approach moose to insure the best expereince and the closest encounter. For nearly 30 minutes all five of us were within 20-30 yards of a cow and her calf. The moose knew we were close but not alarmed--because we were instructed on how to behave. Amber knew her territory AND the moose. Both are required for success. See more..

  10. 5.0 Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum (68 reviews)
    - Hidden Gem
Monday: Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum image
The WW&F Railway in Alna, ME, operates a historic steam-powered two-foot 'narrow gauge' railway through the Sheepscot Valley. The Railway traces its roots to 1894 when the Wiscasset & Quebec Railroad was built north from Wiscasset. With mounting debt & little business, the W&Q reorganized as the Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington. Dreams of reaching Quebec, Waterville or Farmington never materialized yet, against the odds, the railway continued to provide a valuable service. Winding through pine forests, farmlands & hamlets, the WW&F connected Maine's interior to the coast until 1933. Brought back from extinction, the railway reopened in 1989. Today, you can ride our historic steam train for a trip back in time, explore our facilities and experience the art of running a steam-powered railway. See why the WW&F’s attractions & events are some of the best things to do in Midcoast. Enjoy Maine as it was a century ago. It is yours to discover and explore – we will take you there. See more..

  15. 5.0 Moxie Outdoor Adventures (60 reviews)
    - Kennebec River So Much Fun
Multi-day Tours • River Rafting & Tubing • Boat Tours
    Moxie Outdoor Adventures image
The Kennebec was wild and beautiful on a somewhat smokey and cloudy but rain free Tuesday. The smoke was from the western wildfires. Our guides Oliver and Dylan were super fun and competent. Oliver, the guide on our boat , had some great rafting adventure stories and knowledge of the river’s history. My friend’s 16 year old daughter recommended Moxie because she had enjoyed her camp outing with them just a few weeks previously. My friend had never been white water rafting but had a great time in some pretty gnarly white water as we crashed through Magic Falls and Big Momma. By the end she was having fun floating beside the raft. The river is beautiful as is the wildlife and forest surrounding it. We feel like we have we’ve made some new friends and a guide company that we can return to and recommend to friends. Tuesday is a great day to go as sometimes it is a quieter day there. See more..

    Chase Farms image
Heading for Kennebunkport on Rt. 9 in Wells, I came upon Chase Farms and spotted a nice display of pumpkins around the road sign and in a nearby wagon. I stopped to see what the fall offerings were at the farm. As expected, Chase Farms had all the best of everything from apples and pumpkins to apple cider and apple cider donuts as well as the everyday items, such as vegetables and their own beef and pork. For me, this visit was all about pumpkins. Chase Farms had all sizes. There were conventional orange pumpkins as well as the novelty white pumpkins. I found several I liked. I rate Chase Farms at 5.0 and highly recommend a visit for anything The Chases sell. If you found this review helpful, please click THANK below. See more..

    Broad Reach Sailing image
I had the privilege of participating in Sunrise Boat Church this morning with Captains Abby, Bob and Shawn. Such a thoughtful group of people and a very experienced and courteous host. I am inexperienced in how to get on and off a boat but I had nothing to fear, these friends are experts in making their guests feel comfortable. The dock is well lit, the parking is very inexpensive and the dock well lit and welcoming, even at 4:00 a.m. We sailed out into Biddeford Pool for a thoughtful and spirit-filled message to the backdrop of the rising sun. Rev. Abby is an amazing and thoughtful pastor with a message that was just what my soul needed to hear. Upon returning to the dock, I felt compelled to just sit and contemplate the beautiful morning and the message I heard while listening to sounds of the harbor waking up to greet a new day. If you want a unique worship experience, you must try Sunrise Boat Church with Broad Reach Sailing and Maine Tuna Fishing (Miss Megan II). See more..

Step Falls Preserve Hiking Trail image
We took our dog for a short hike in Step Falls Preserve while visiting the area. There's a good size parking area along Route 26, but it can fill up on nice weekends and no parking along the highway. A short yellow-blazed trail follows Wight Brook upstream to Step Falls. It's easy to the base of the falls, but gets steeper past that. Step Falls consists of a series of cascades and small drops totaling almost 200 feet. There are a number of side paths that go out to the falls in different places. Lots of swimholes if you're looking to take a dip. The top of the waterfall is clearly marked where private property begins. Please respect private property and stay within the preserve. See more..

  32. 5.0 Prong Pond (37 reviews)
    - Serene Canoe Paddle
    Bodies of Water
    Prong Pond image
What a pleasant surprise and one of the highlights of our stay in Moosehead Lake. We rented a canoe that was on shore - picked up paddle and PFD from NorthWoods Outfitters in town. We spent over 2 hours enjoying this beautiful lake with just the loons, a couple kayakers, a small sunfish sailboat and a fisherman. The lake has an unusual shape with many quiet coves and small islands to explore. There were some lilies and grasses, but mostly just a clear lake with a handful of cabins on its shore line. The loons were amazing - we had a group of six that we observed from a short distance preening, diving, interacting and vocalizing. Then another landed right in front of our canoe like a penguin bellyflopping on ice as he skidded across the water. It was a memorable morning just enjoying nature. See more..

    - A weekend fishing trip with a moose sighting!
Monday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Fishing Charters & Tours • Nature & Wildlife Tours
    Twin Maple Outdoors image
Rich and his family were excellent hosts to my wife and I making us feel a part of the family as well. My wife and I did a two part trip with Twin Maple Outdoors. On the first day we did a jet boat trip for smallmouth bass and we caught dozens. On the second day we took the float boat out in search of salmon on the fly. Rich did not disappoint as I landed a few beautiful LL salmon. My wife had never seen a moose in the wild before and that was her goal during this weekend trip. Rich took us in search of a moose and soon enough we had spotted 2 but they were a distance away. Then, there he was! A beautiful bull moose standing in the shallows of a pond only 100' or so from shore. My wife's trip was now complete after a photo session with the moose. It was a wonderful weekend and we look forward to a return trip soon! See more..

We went for an 8 day trip with Cathy as our guide. Her connections with a local outfitter made everything go smoothly and efficiently. We initially spent some time in eco lodges , walking in the jungle, seeing native nocturnal animals in a guided tour, exploring an incredible ceremonial Mayan cave. And then headed to Glovers Reef for snorkeling and kayaking - 4 extremely special days in a very special setting. We strongly recommend this trip to others. You won’t regret it. See more..
