4.5Frank Lloyd Wright's Rosenbaum House(394 reviews) - Worth the huge budget to restore this FLW house Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Historic Sites
The Rosenbaums ended up spending twice their budget to build this home, but that's nothing compared to what it cost to restore it after Mrs. Rosenbaum donated it to the city of Florence. That cost TEN times their budget. We who really enjoy touring FLW homes, though, appreciate the time and money spent. This is typical FLW. One thing we didn't know was that Wright coined the term "carport" for the cantilever roof that juts out from the home - perfect to park a car under. The guides were great; they gave us a history at the beginning and then mostly let us wander and ask questions. By the way, the home is located in a great neighborhood, and while we went to Florence just to see this home, while you're in the area we also recommend Trowbridge's 1918 ice cream shop!See more..
4.0Cheaha State Park(374 reviews)from $23.00 - Pretty views Thursday: 7:00 AM - 10:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours State Parks • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts
Located on the southernmost tip of the Appalachian mountain chain, Cheaha is the oldest state park in Alabama. Quiet surroundings, a cliffside restaurant, a variety of overnight accommodations, the highest pool in Alabama, a dog park, museums, hiking trails, a six acre lake, and a historic timber framed group lodge that can be rented for weddings, family reunions, or business retreats. Cheaha State Park seems far removed from civilization; however, this park is only 30 minutes away from several historic downtown areas. Discover breathtaking views, surreal sunsets, waterfalls, and diverse recreational activities. Access: The park recommends traveling on the Talladega Scenic Drive (Alabama Highway 281) which is well maintained, wide and appropriate for large RVs.See more..

I loved this park. I drove by it during the day and I didn't think about it much. I'm not from the area but it seemed to be in the not best part of town. I went later in the evening with my mother to go for a walk and we loved it. It is very large and there was a great amount of people doing all sorts of things. Lots of people having fun with their friends. The park lights up at night in a great manner that makes it all very beautiful.See more..

4.0Hank Williams Museum(282 reviews)from $23.00 - Enjoyed the museum very much. Thursday: 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • History Museums
Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, AL is a favorite destination for music fans. He is a treasure to the City of Montgomery and the State of Alabama, and we are paying tribute to the life and accomplishments of this magnificent legend whose name survives in a way that is unique in the history of Music. It is amazing after so many years that there are still things to be said...song to be sung. Year by year since Hank's death in 1953, the real impact his songs made on American Music becomes more evident. His lifelong fans continue, and new admirers are added with each generation. Hank Williams crowded a lot of living into twenty-nine years. It is safe to say, perhaps Hank Williams said all he had to say. We are proud to say that all of the artifacts are authentic. Exhibits include the 1952 Cadillac in which he died, 17 stage suits including Nudie , custom made boots, cowboy hats, tie collection, furniture, portraits, records, horse saddle, piano, awards, rare photos, family history and personal film footage. Experience the history of the first country music superstar and see how Hank Williams transformed country music and sowed the seeds of what was to become American Music, blues, rockabilly and even rock and roll.See more..

Located in downtown Montgomery across the street from the capitol, the ADAH is the official government records repository for the state, a private collections library and research facility, and also home to the Museum of Alabama, the state's history museum. This exhibition covers the dramatic unfolding of Alabama history from the dawn of the 1700s to the beginning of the 21st century. More than 800 artifacts, hundreds of images and documents, and twenty-two audiovisual programs tell the story of struggles over the land, the rise of a cotton economy, the Civil War, industrialization, world wars, civil rights, the race to the moon, and more. 4.5Peach Park(224 reviews) - Great stop and future location to visit. Thursday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Parks
I was bringing my brother, Tom, down to our Florida home for a fishing tournament, and first hotel choices were all booked, what a great mistake. We drove about 33 miles more to Clanton and Holiday Inn staff told us to try this place, and we did. The BBQ here was top notch and I have judged BBQ in Illinois fests. Save room for the desserts they offer too. I tried the peach cobbler with peach ice cream and my brother had Peach cheesecake ice cream and he said it was amazing.See more..

There are also some hiking trails that you can get lost in for a short period of time. Overall, a pretty waterfall.See more..

The Conde-Charlotte Museum is now furnished with period antiques reflecting Mobile’s history under five flags: French, English, Spanish, Confederate and American. The variety and authenticity of the furnishings make the house a charming museum, with two confederate parlors, an American Federal dining room, a British Commandant’s room, a French sitting room and bedroom, and two American bedrooms. 4.5Anniston Museum of Natural History(176 reviews)from $23.00 - Sunday, October 2nd visit. Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Natural History Museums
My wife and I arrived around 1:30pm, with the museums opening at 1pm. I have wanted to visit this museum for decades. I am sorry that I put it off for so long. It is a great museum. The ladies working at the front desk were wonderful. A joy to visit with, and quite helpful. A good start to our afternoon. We pretty much had the museum to ourselves. Any description of the exhibits would not do it justice. You have to experience it to get it. It seems like a hidden gem. Anniston should feel so lucky to have such a wonderful museum. And the cost to enter is inexpensive. We bought the AM&G Passport ticket, to gain entrance to both museums. I am so glad we visited, and I would visit again.See more..

4.5Helen Keller Birthplace(164 reviews) - One of History’s Most Inspiring Stories Thursday: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Theatre & Performances
Because of the play and movie “The Miracle Worker” most people know the story of Helen Keller. What a treat it was for me to visit Ivy Green, the birthplace of one of history’s most inspiring stories! The staff is wonderful. They offer a personalized tour of the downstairs (no extra charge) or you can walk through the house yourself. The house is furnished with 85% original items (including what the guide called a “fainting couch,” a place for ladies to collapse from the hot Alabama summer days). Keller’s story is so widely known that there wasn’t much for the guides to add; however, they do know their history well. They’re also familiar with anecdotal facts (such as the story behind the creation of Braille). The stop was well worth my time, and I would be more than happy to visit again.See more..
