Stopped by late this past week . Called the number on the door and one of the owners came down in like 5 minutes. We got to learn all their processes in the back and then taste some incredible varieties of sweet wines. Was past closing time and they never rushed us. Very nice people that run this and had other great items to purchase as well, like jellies and wine crackers. Off the beaten path, but worth the drive to see a family business thrive. See more..

We very much enjoyed our visit here! Strongly advised to call ahead, which we did. You can choose the standard tasting (~30 min) or the tasting with history (1hr+, depending upon your interaction and other factors); and of course we chose the history version. Wow! This lady is a one-woman show and has amassed such depth of knowledge both of the winemaking process and the history behind this farm vineyard and its GENIUS owners. Be sure to sign the guest book, get a photo in front of the red door, grab some wines/vinegars/various gifts, and support this great piece of Alabama’s history! Cheers! See more..

    - Come for the wine and shine, stay for the stories.
    Saturday: 11:00 AM - 9:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Wineries & Vineyards
    Mad County Winery image
Cotton Williams decided to make fruit wines his way and with the help of his wife Mad County Winery was born. Mad County Winery is a small, family owned and operated winery. This is an " industrial winery". But when you find it make sure your bring your sense of humor and prepare yourself for a one of a kind experience. Cotton tells some great stories as you sample his creations. My favorites were the Peach, Cranberry, and Banana Coosh. See more..

    Fruithurst Winery Co. image
This was by far the longest drive of the six wineries but worth the ride. Young girl doing our pours was sweet, engaging and knowledgeable about her wines. Winery was heavy on the sweets. Like all the wineries Muscadine Grapes were the headliner for all the great wines in the area. It was here that we received our last Passport stamp and got to choose our etched wine glasses. The gentleman reminded us to fill out and mail in or scan and email, the Wine Passports for a nice little commemorative gift. Give this Wine Trail a try. Everyone has a great story and wonderful people. See more..
  10. 3.5 Hodges Vineyards & Winery (12 reviews)
    - Very Freindly Lady doing the tastings!
Spent 1-2 hours Wineries & Vineyards
    Hodges Vineyards & Winery image
We looked on the website - and it said they were open to five..... as we were pulling up at 3:59 PM, the only vehicle in the parking lot was pulling out. She stopped and asked if we wanted a tasting, and when we said yes - she agreed to go back and open up for us - so mega bonus points for a very friendly staff. As noted, most of the wines are muscadines which just do not fit my palate. Tried a bunch, bought 4 or 5 since they were very affordable wines. I'm guessing a very scenic spot in the summer time when the vines are in bloom! See more..

After visitng a local restaurant in the same area we had noticed the sign for this place on the back of a golf cart. The atmosphere is great, the personel are wonderful, knowledegable and very kind. The only thing I could recommend to them is to have seating at the wine bar, because one member our group was recoverying from an accident. Very personalable staff, she took her time to explain the wines to us. If yu enjoy wine, go here if you are in Alabama. See more..

I took my wife here for Valentine’s Day and did not regret it. The owner is very pleasant and the wines were great. It turns out that there’s a whole wine trail of other vineyards in Alabama that you can go to and a few of them are close by to this one. Very fun experience. Check them all out. See more..
  15. 2.5 Bryant Vineyard (4 reviews)
    - Room for improvement in the space but excellent wine
    Wineries & Vineyards
I'm glad we read both previous reviews and decided to go ahead and make the visit. GPS may misdirect you at the last minute so look for the sign! There are dead vines at the entrance, and it does look like and apparently is a residence when you arrive at the end of the drive. Mildew seems to be a problem; unfortunately the smell does interfere a bit with the tasting. The bathroom was dirty. However, there has been some effort made in the basement tasting room to make it a pretty environment, and our host was personable and knowledgeable about his family's award winning muscadine wines and unique grapes. We happily bought the three wine varieties he had available, and chalked the whole experience up to a great Alabama adventure! See more..

  19. 5.0 Southern Oak Wine (1 review)
    - Great Wine!
    Wineries & Vineyards
Who would have thought that there would be wine in Alabama. And, what a wine selection is presented at Southern Oak Wines. The proprietress was friendly and very knowledgeable about wines, but most specifically her wines. We sampled all of the large selection and purchased bottles of "Blackberry Wine" and "Scarlet". The "Scarlet" was made from Muscadine grapes, which taste a whole lot better than wine made from them in NE Florida. Great visit! See more..
