Hank Williams Museum in Montgomery, AL is a favorite destination for music fans. He is a treasure to the City of Montgomery and the State of Alabama, and we are paying tribute to the life and accomplishments of this magnificent legend whose name survives in a way that is unique in the history of Music. It is amazing after so many years that there are still things to be said...song to be sung. Year by year since Hank's death in 1953, the real impact his songs made on American Music becomes more evident. His lifelong fans continue, and new admirers are added with each generation. Hank Williams crowded a lot of living into twenty-nine years. It is safe to say, perhaps Hank Williams said all he had to say. We are proud to say that all of the artifacts are authentic. Exhibits include the 1952 Cadillac in which he died, 17 stage suits including Nudie , custom made boots, cowboy hats, tie collection, furniture, portraits, records, horse saddle, piano, awards, rare photos, family history and personal film footage. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Conde-Charlotte Museum is the Gateway to Mobile’s History. Built in 1822, the museum house was Mobile's first jail. A portion of the jail foundation and jail doors can still be seen in the house. In 1849, the building was purchased by Jonathan Kirkbride and converted into his family residence. The Conde-Charlotte Museum is now furnished with period antiques reflecting Mobile’s history under five flags: French, English, Spanish, Confederate and American. The variety and authenticity of the furnishings make the house a charming museum, with two confederate parlors, an American Federal dining room, a British Commandant’s room, a French sitting room and bedroom, and two American bedrooms. A walled Spanish garden of the late 18th century design and a kitchen filled with late 19th and early 20th century equipment complement the house.See more..

A pleasant, well displayed, small museum with enthusiastic docents that gives guests a good overview of the development of the area, what Single Tax Community is and of Jubilee - a phenomenon we certainly had not known about. The Jubilee display could use some modern photos as the event still happens. The video is long. Perhaps posting just how long it runs would be helpful. There is much information to read in the displays and the video allows those of us who are not speed readers to get the information. See more..

Located on the Black Warrior River 13 miles south of Tuscaloosa, the park preserves 326 acres where, 800 years ago, Mississippian Indians constructed 28 massive flat-topped earthen pyramids, arranged carefully around a vast central plaza. The mounds served as elevated platforms for civic and ceremonial structures and the homes of nobles. 4.5Negro Southern League Museum(51 reviews) - Delighted to find this attraction in Birmingham, AL Saturday: 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Speciality Museums • History Museums
We are doing college tour visits in & around the South and found ourselves with half of a day to further explore the city of Birmingham. We first tried to go to Birmingham Civil Rights Institute but we couldn’t buy tickets online, the last box office tickets sold at 1:45: place closed at 3. Then we tried to go to Arlington Antebellum home but it’s more of a house and garden tour vs. a true plantation so that got nixed. Then tried to go to the Birmingham Zoo but it was closed. We found ourselves at the Negro Southern League Museum which was perfect! It combined our desire to see more about civil rights in this town + our love of baseball. It’s also situated right next to Regions Field where the Birmingham Barons play and where we were headed for an evening game. We highly recommend this attraction!See more..
This interesting little museum offers information on local history, Native American artifacts, antique sea-faring items and biological findings. The lone guide is friendly and informative and greets visitors with the history of the building which was once a one-room school house among other things. I found the 500 year old nineteen foot long dug-out canoe as well as the dolphin scull particularly interesting. My daughter took home some shards of Native American pottery which was free. Worth stopping by if you are in the area. Admission was free.See more..
4.0Hank Williams Boyhood Home and Museum(45 reviews) - Interesting stop in Alabama Saturday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Speciality Museums • Historic Sites • History Museums
We saw this on trip advisor, and decided to stop in. It is a house with about 6 rooms on first floor, in a residential neighborhood. It does have free parking. There are items, hanging on walls and on shelves throughout. The lady at the front desk was full of information, maybe even more than the museum itself. We did have trouble understanding her at times . We could, though, see she was very passionate about this place. Hopefully Hank Jr will visit it someday. See more..

I took my husband here, as a surprise, because he is such a car guy! He was so excited to just see the muscle cars... little did he know that because of Coronavirus closures, I had to book a reservation time for a tour. This just may have been the BEST thing about the Coronavirus! We had a private tour by Mr Alton who is the most knowledgeable “muscle car” person that we have ever met. He was also extremely kind and entertaining! He had stories about each of the cars and how they were acquired. It was such a personable & fun time that I feel even if you are not into cars, that you will be after a visit! I know we will be back again!See more..

I recently visited Dothan, AL and thought I would get to know the town. I had a few hours so I asked the hotel staff to recommend something to do. The GW Carver Interpretive Museum was a place i was told could be worth a visit. I did. Was impressed by the history of African American unsung heroes who have made significant contribution to this country and are rather obscured names in history books. The visit was free and escorted. The building is an old bus station with reminders and remnants of the days of segregation Every American should be proud of the huge accomplishments made to be one nation.See more..
5.0Aliceville Museum(13 reviews) - THE GERMANS ARE COMING! THE GERMANS ARE COMING! Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
I have visited many museums in and around Alabama, but by far Camp Aliceville is one of the most fascinating I have seen yet. The original POW camp is long gone but the vastness of the complex (800 acres, over 400 buildings, 6000 Deutschers Afrika Korps prisoners, 1000 American personnel) staggers the imagination. Hard to believe all of it took place in this sleepy little town in the country. Not only are the artifacts and displays of WWII prison life in the museum very informative, but the town now offers a reenactment of the arrival of the Germans in June 1943. Each May the German POW's return to Aliceville as the town rolls out the red carpet for reenactors and visitors alike. A small reconstruction of the compound complete with fences and guard towers brings the story to life as certain actual incidents are featured. A must see in May each year!See more..
5.0Tuskegee Human &Civil Rights Multicultural Center(13 reviews) - This is an excellent museum that documents the history of the local area and augments the Airman and GW Carver Museums Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
The Tuskegee Civil Rights Center focuses on the Tuskegee Experiment, early american and civil rights era. There is an excellently painted running mural that transitions history from dinosaurs to the reconstruction era. Debra Gray is the museum director and is a very knowledgeable resident of the local area as well. There is a lot of information on the medical experiments and shows the despair of the local resident who were put at risk. The south corner of the museum predominately focuses on civil rights era as it paralleled the south's efforts to end segregation. Definitely worth the efforts to travel out and see. The University is nearby so u can visit the GW Carver, Oaks and Tuskegee Airmen Museums as well. See more..

4.5Cherokee County Alabama Historical Museum(11 reviews) - A Hands-On Approach to Cherokee County History Saturday: 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums
From the moment you walk in the front door and the cowbell announces your presence It is as if the old store was still alive. Tall ceilings and a stairway to the second floor takes you back in time as you walk down the aisles to look at the displays featuring towns in the county and those featuring items from the past: for instance, a player piano, an old brass cash register, an arrowhead collection, and Civil War artifacts. Nonetheless, it is a place where chlldren can touch items from the past at several of the displays. They can also trek downstairs to the old basement, which is filled with more interesting displays. In fact, you can take a picture of anyone willing to put on a jail uniform in the jail display - the kids love it! Take the kids and enjoy this museum - they will not be disappointed!See more..
