Fort Payne Depot Museum, Alabama, United States

4.5 (29 reviews) Spent Ranking #9 in Fort Payne Speciality Museums

Great place and renovation

Clean interesting and even better are the renovated parks by it. Can spend hours there with kids. Clean, secure and family oriented. You get what you get in a lot of downtowns but I found this very nice.

    Lots of interesting exhibits
We spent about an hour in this museum and would have spent more but were trying to get over to the Opera House and hosiery museum too. Did not allow enough time for all three spots. We found Ft. Payne's boom town history to be very interesting and learned a lot about the sad story of the Cherokees and the Trail of Tears.

    It Ain't About Trains
Ft. Payne was savvy enough to save their beautiful train depot. They have used it wisely to store and display the artifacts of their local history, from the Creeks to the time when Ft. Payne was the "Sock Capital of the World". I have driven by that beautiful structure many times over the years and always said I would stop. Well we did and enjoyed our visit. Ft. Payne has a rich history to explore.
