    Mobile Bay image
I moved to the Mobile area 12 years ago. Oblivious to what Mobile Bay really was. I'm an outdoorsman and have been my whole life. I saw the muddy waters and didn't see the magnificent eco- system that exists here. This huge Area of Watershed: 44,582 square miles creates a tremendous estuary system supporting numerous species. 11 rivers lend water to Mobile Bay. This is a huge estuary system. One of the largest in the US. Species such as the Manatee, Bald Eagle, & Gulf Sturgeon are just a few species that use this area. Not to mention the seafood nurseries for Shrimp, oysters & fin-fish that exists because of this estuary. Muddy Water is not always what it appears to be. Come enjoy this area. It's worth your time and effort to dig into it a little bit. See more..

Walker County Public Fishing Lake image
I went a few years ago but this site reminded me what a wonderful peaceful place this is set apart from the hustle of town although Jasper still isn't huge it is nice to get away. I imagine if I could throw a rock a little ways we could hit the lake. We were going toward the Corridor X and passed by the lake and we live in Union Chapel. It was then we said we really need to take a trip there and take the dogs because they would love it as well. We live in the country anyway but it is always nice to be around the peace of water. I call the Walker County Lake a quiet place set apart by God. See more..
  10. 4.5 Autauga Creek Canoe Trail (14 reviews)
    - Fun day on the creek
Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas
    Autauga Creek Canoe Trail image
We enjoyed floating down the Autauga Creek Canoe Trail. You could easily kayak or canoe this trail but we chose to float on inner tubes. We used two cars and left one at the take out point on Doster Road and the other at the put in site behind city hall. At the put in site, there is a little beach area for playing in the water. You can also walk to the right up toward the dam in the shallows. As we floated down the creek, we found several places to stop and play in the water. We took about two hours to do this trip but it could be done much quicker or longer if you stopped and played or swam. We chose to take out on Doster Road but you can go on much further and take out at the Reuben Road point. We took a small cooler with a couple of waters and sandwiches and stopped and picniced along the way. This is a great FREE activity on a hot summer day. See more..

This is a lovely place to visit! My husband and I went last year but the water was real shallow. We went again this year and the water was up. The river is beautiful. It's a great place to bring your family, for teens, or adults to hang out! They also have some hiking trails, one leads to the over look. It's beautiful. We plan to go back once the Lily's are bloomed! I am super excited to seen them! I'm ready for the festival as well!! See more..

Good, quet , small campground. Nothing much to do there other than relax , walk, ride bikes, eat and watch wildlife. One of our neighbors started playing radio 6am , kind of loud , so we complained about it and hosts took care of it immediately. No loud noise for the rest of camping. Other played music or radio but it was contained to the their site and nobody made loud noise during the night. Hosts also will deliver free wood to your site if you need it. Campground would be beautiful in the fall, a lot of maple trees around. Premium sites are looking on a big river and a dam. See more..

    Limestone Park image
A hidden biodiversity hot spot. Part of the Alabama Birding Trails system, Limestone Park is a mixed use facility on the edge of a water tupelo swamp. When you first drive in it looks like a lot of nothing but slow down and take a moment and you'll start to see what is there. Over 288 species of animal and plant life have been catalogued so far at the park, including locally rare species like Bald Eagle, Osprey, Sandhill Crane, and Anhinga. There is a wheelchair accessible birding platform to the right side of the park and a road that you can take to two marsh areas on the left (this is near the police firing range so do not be alarmed if you hear a gunshot when they are training). On the far side of the central pond is an RC airplane airfield. See more..

  17. 4.0 Open Pond Recreation Area (3 reviews)
    - Beautiful Area
Spent More than 3 hours Bodies of Water
Open Pond Recreation Area is very nice and a great place to go camping. The sites cannot be reserved and are first come, first serve and are reasonably priced. They are large, and there is foliage between the ones that are farther away from the lake. Each one has a nice large fire ring and a stationary picnic table, as well as poles to hang a clothesline, and the bath houses are kept clean. The terrain is hilly, which makes for some great hiking and biking. We also enjoyed a leisurely paddle in our kayaks one day we were there. We camped for 5 days and I wish we could have stayed longer. See more..

Surrounded by trees, flowers and a nice neighborhood, the lake is a relaxing spot for those who want to put a canoe into the water and/or enjoy a walk around the lake on the paved streets. Local residents and visitors enjoy the exercise any time of the year and if you have the proper fishing license you can also find a place to throw out a hook and spend as long a time as you wish. There are several pull-off rough parking areas and if you visit on any day besides Sunday you may be able to use the parking at the nearby Episcopal Church.
