Many rare birds and plants

A hidden biodiversity hot spot. Part of the Alabama Birding Trails system, Limestone Park is a mixed use facility on the edge of a water tupelo swamp. When you first drive in it looks like a lot of nothing but slow down and take a moment and you'll start to see what is there. Over 288 species of animal and plant life have been catalogued so far at the park, including locally rare species like Bald Eagle, Osprey, Sandhill Crane, and Anhinga. There is a wheelchair accessible birding platform to the right side of the park and a road that you can take to two marsh areas on the left (this is near the police firing range so do not be alarmed if you hear a gunshot when they are training). On the far side of the central pond is an RC airplane airfield.

    Unique
It is different in that much is marsh land with a small pond. It's primary function is bird watching and there is a viewing stand in the marsh accessed by a board walk. There is a community garden spot and a modle airplane field also. It is not a garnd place but it is interesting and worthwhile for those that enjoy birding

    City mismanagement
The nature here is undeniable and the variety of species if you take time to look is mind boggling. Unfortunately the city seems to think it is worthless and upkeeps all the roads except the one leading to the birding platform and allows the RC club and church garden to overflow their bounds (which is public land being used privately). The garbage truck facility is washing chemicals into the environment and trash is being scattered around the park by blowing our of the trucks.
