We were driving from Montgomery to Selma and needed a rest stop. Saw the signs for this interpretive center run by the National Parks and pulled over. What an incredibly well done interactive exhibit. You start off with a 25 minute film that is so informative and well done about the historic walk from Selma to Montgomery. When the film is over the side door opens that welcomes you into the exhibit. Lots of information and hands on exhibits. The walls are filled with quotes, the sculptures are striking and life sized, there was even an exhibit that replicated the inside of one of the tents in the tent cities set up along the walk. If you can handle the Alabama heat there is also a large outdoor walking path that simulates the tent city as well. It was 100° and we are from the north so we couldn’t handle it!! The parks official that was on site was very welcoming and knowledgeable.See more..
5.0Foley Welcome Center(42 reviews) - Very helpful staff offering many resources Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
This is one of our favorite welcome centers. I can ask a question and receive the exact resource I'm looking for. I asked about restaurant locations in Foley and was given a map and a listing of nearly all the restaurants in Foley. I asked about coupons and was given a large perforated flyer of discount coupons for many businesses in Foley. When I asked about other routes to Gulf Shores and Orange Beach aside from Hwy 59, I was given a map of Baldwin County which we've used to get to several communities on the peninsula. We also love the location of the welcome center since it's adjacent to the train museum and kiddy-korner from the Book Exchange which is one of the best book stores on the peninsula. The Foley Welcome Center will continue to be an annual stop for us.See more..
4.5Alabama Welcome Center(33 reviews) - Needed help on where to stay for the night Visitor Centers
We were on our way to Orange Beach Al and after driving 7 hours we needed a place to stay. We were stopping at Al Welcome Center for rest room and walked in to the Welcome Center to ask if they could offer suggestions where to stay. The two ladies were really nice and helpful. They suggested Birmingham and I want to go further and asked about Montgomery. They told me that was another 4 hours - give / take some and that was too far. They suggested Clanton Al on I65 and gave us a book with the Clanton Hotels listed. The one lady suggested stopping at Peach Farm to eat since it had good food and wasn't real expensive. We took their suggestion of Clanton and were happy they were around to help.See more..

We have stopped here many times over the years. 5.0Colbert County Visitor Center(1 review) - Friendly workers, great local information Saturday: Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers We needed local information during our visit in order to maximize our three days. This area is called quad-cities because Tuscumbia, Florence, Sheffield, and Muscle Shoals are all connected. The local tourist center seemed to be a good starting point. It is located next door to the Alabama Music Hall of Fame. Great place to visit after gathering your information. The woman working went above and beyond. She gathered pamphlets, recommended restaurants to go to and those to avoid. She even stopped in the middle of her info, called us to the window to see the wild bunny living under the shrubs. After giving us a wealth of information, I told her if she saw us in the parking lot, we were getting drinks and crackers out of our cooler. She suggested we go around back to their picnic table, gave me two bottles of water, two diet Cokes, and a pack of cookies. We left armed with information that served us well during the remainder of our visit and with a warm welcome to start our visit.See more..
