Bryant Vineyard, Alabama, United States

2.5 (4 reviews) Spent Ranking #9 in Talladega Wineries & Vineyards

Room for improvement in the space but excellent wine

I'm glad we read both previous reviews and decided to go ahead and make the visit. GPS may misdirect you at the last minute so look for the sign! There are dead vines at the entrance, and it does look like and apparently is a residence when you arrive at the end of the drive. Mildew seems to be a problem; unfortunately the smell does interfere a bit with the tasting. The bathroom was dirty. However, there has been some effort made in the basement tasting room to make it a pretty environment, and our host was personable and knowledgeable about his family's award winning muscadine wines and unique grapes. We happily bought the three wine varieties he had available, and chalked the whole experience up to a great Alabama adventure!

    Read reviews before visiting
I wish I had read the review from Suz C on this place, we would have not wasted our time. Google maps brings you to the address where the sign for the alleged vineyard is located. We turned down the one lane trail road. The trail dead ends at a house. There is nothing that indicates this is a business. We chose to get back in the car and leave as we felt we were trespassing on someone’s property.

    Scary & Dirty!
We were taking the Shelby Wine tour route through Alabama and this was our 1st stop. When you arrive at the sign Bryant Vineyard you see a gravel driveway and dead vines. Immediately we thought this place was closed down but we proceeded down the gravel drive deep into the woods. Thank goodness it was daylight because this seemed like a horror movie set! Once we arrive at the end there were vines that were full of fruit so I thought all was ok. We saw only a house so we thought it was the winery . A lady came out and said oh the winery in in the cellar. We were sort of shocked but we followed her. When walking in the house you could tell this is where they actually lived and the space was dirty. This should have been our 1st indication! However, we walked down to the cellar ~ I envisioned more scenes from a horror movie. Normally I would not walk into a stranger's cellar that lives deep in the woods, for the fear of being killed, but since Alabama recommended them as a business I thought many other people have done this. As I walked down the stairs that were covered in cobwebs I noticed that there was black mildew all over the wall in addition to the overpowering smell of the mildew. I wanted to run and flee from this place but we stayed. Clearly these people were not the cleanest folks so I was very hesitant about drinking the wine. My boyfriend said it would be fine. Just taste it. So we sped through the tasting even buying a bottle that we will NEVER drink. Seriously it was a pity buy. The woman was very sweet but really this should NOT be on any wine trail or on anything promoted by the state of Alabama. Does the board of health actually visit these wineries? Basically I am telling you DON'T VISIT unless you are ok with the lack of a clean facility making your wine!
