Dauphin Island Audubon Bird Sanctuary, Alabama, United States

4.5 (214 reviews) Spent Ranking #4 in Dauphin Island Nature & Wildlife Areas

Nice Walk, Plenty to See

After several tips to the island, we finally made a point to visit the sanctuary. We should've done this sooner! It's a great place to wind down, take a stroll, and enjoy the sights/sounds of nature. Easy trails take you around a small lake (say hey to the alligators) and out to the beach (beautiful views and benches). Parking can be complicated, but it's not terrible. A free, family-friendly, accessible activity you should definitely put on your list!

    Beautiful Trails & Yay Ospreys
My fiancé and I walked all the trails here and hung around by Gaillard Lake in a few locations.. all very pretty and not crowded. August though, so it was crazy hot and the mosquitos were awful in some parts that had standing rain water! Highlights were seeing an ~6 foot alligator in the lake, a pair of ospreys fishing and feeding their young, and this one really giant magnolia! We were also super pleased to find the pathway out to the beach (shhhhh I think it's a secret lol), and spent an evening out there. Note- there's not a lot of parking so either go early morning, late afternoon, or bike to it (there are a couple bike racks available). Most people were walking the trails; we only passed one group with bikes.

Lovely place for a quiet walk
This is a great nature area with clearly defined walking paths, an accurate map. and plenty of places to sit down and enjoy the views. In the summer, you definitely want to go in the mornings before it gets too hot.
