Stunningly beautiful

Surrounded by a scenic forest that once belonged to the Chickasaw Indians.

Wonderful Dismals Canyon--A delightful place to experience nature!
This was a girls’ trip of four friends to Dismals Canyon. We are 1 ½ hours from the Canyon, but stayed the night in Cabin 1. The hike through the Canyon is not your usual canyon hike. It’s not strenuous (except for the 80 or so steps that get you to the canyon floor), but slightly treacherous with rocks, roots, tight squeezes, and a stream that you have to cross if you want to see all of the canyon. Wear waterproof boots because you will get wet. There are soaring cliffs; rocky caves; beautiful trees, shrubs, and mosses; waterfalls; and beauty in abundance. The day hike is self-guided, but the night trek requires a guide. Our night guide Bill did a terrific job of explaining the history, flora and fauna. Since our trip was in October, the dismalites were present, but not plentiful. May would be the ideal time to visit. Our cabin exceeded expectations: clean and comfortable with lots of personality. It was outfitted with everything needed for our stay, plus some lovely extras such as robe, plenty of fluffy, plush wash cloths and towels, lots of comfortable seating, deck rocking chairs, lovely setting, gated entry, and a friendly outside cat to sit with us on the porch. We look forward to another trip to Dismals Canyon in May.

    Simply Amazing
This place is privately owned and such a treasure! Odd and exocentric, magical. Moss, cliffs and waterfalls everywhere. There's a fog everywhere. It's quite magical like a little fairy forest or something. Stunning and worth every penny. Not your typical camping spot. It's a bit more expensive than normal camping, and no campers (only tents) but every camp site has it's own waterfall! It's definitely sketchy hiking at night, can't see trails and it's slippery, so be careful. Night hike not ideal for super young kids or people with trouble walking Sure hope these dismalytes are here to stay and wish i could have captured it on camera. My phone just can't capture it.
