Great visit
The History Museum of Mobile is where Mobile’s story begins. Over 117,000 objects weave together the rich, diverse, and often turbulent histories of Mobile and the surrounding area, from the prehistoric past to the present. Located in the heart of downtown, the History Museum of Mobile operates three campuses: The primary exhibitions are located in the Old City Hall-Southern Market building at 111 South Royal Street; Colonial Fort Condé is at 150 South Royal Street; and the Phoenix Fire Museum is at 203 South Claiborne Street.

Worth an hour or two at least
We visited on a Friday morning. The museum opens at 9AM, early for a museum in Mobile. We saw the Vikings exhibit and the "22 objects" exhibit. The former was ok but limited in its scope. The latter was actually fairly interesting, with a good summary of some of the highlights of Mobile history. We also spent a short time on some the other exhibits. There is a lot to see, and it was pretty interesting.

Enjoyable afternoon of Mobile history
We originally visited the museum to see the Viking exhibit but ended up finding the rest of the museum much more interesting. There was a display on the ground floor of hand-crafted doll houses which was fantastic. Also Mobile's history is presented in a very enjoyable format - concise and compelling. I liked all the information and displays of the submarine CSS HLHunley (the actual sub can be seen at the USS Alabama site, between the air museum and the USS Drum).
