3 Star Places To Visit in Tennessee, United States (50)
3.5Lake Isom National Wildlife Refuge(7 reviews) - If you like watching lots of Snow Geese fuss at each other you will love this place National Parks
The colder it is up north the more ducks, Eagles, and Snow Geese come to Reelfoot and settle down on the Refuge. This year (2017) only about 20,000 showed up but they were a hoot to watch and listen to. The Visitor Center is not the one on the lower bank of Reelfoot Lake. It's about a 20 minute drive up the East side of the Lake. Just get a map and go. Don't be fooled by photographing several hundred Canadian Geese eating on the ground off in the distance. Those are tires stuck in the ground. For the hunters. Yep - don't photograph those! And one last tip - the local roads are numbered for Tennessee. But the northern part of the Refuge is in Kentucky and their roads have different numbers. Just follow the map and ignore the road signs and you'll get back in Tennessee in no time.See more..
For the adults there are many shady mature trees and picnic tables. For the kids, there was playground equipment that was very innovative. Our grandson came up with "obstacle courses" to run. Water fountains and restrooms are also available. Also, it is located next to the public library if reading is part of your day.See more..

The 250-acre May Prairie is a recognized National Natural Landmark located near Manchester, Coffee County , Tennessee. The one-mile loop trail is a bit finicky but sufficient for exercise. The mosquito’s were more than plentiful during the time of our visit but overall is a nice little prairie and swamp area worth visiting at least once. After turning off U.S. 41 be sure to watch carefully for the small parking area which is on the right side of Asbury Road as it is not prominently marked.See more..

Been going to games here since the beginning in 1974 when I was a teenager. Just went this past weekend also. Got to have a "Miss Jane's Bologna sandwich" HA! Hope our Twins are back next year, but who knows??? Guess it's be JC and the Cardinals if not our Twins. Shame if they're not back, but I understand the BIG BOYS in St.Paul/Minneapolis want BETTER and who can blame them! Can't you just imagine the shock on these young men's faces when they come from some first class college and see the deplorable conditions they'll be in for 3 months!?See more..
Locally grown produce typically does not come in full swing until the middle or end of July. The weather and crop failures of local farmers affects all markets that only only local producers (we do not allow resellers) Our vendors only sell what they or their families grow or make. We open early with whats available and sometimes that may only be handmade items with a little produce such as lettuce (cool weather crops) if vendors didn't get froze out that year. We have a great bunch of vendors, but they can not all attend every single market day. Emergencies arise, farms need attending, and sometimes you just need a break from farming and selling and need a vacation with your family. It's hard work and very time consuming.See more..

This was a neat little stop (there are actually three stops for this battle as noted on the billboard in the information center if you so choose to do them). There is limited parking, some memorials, a few old graves, and some replica cannon. And the information center provides some good information about what happened. This is no Gettysburg, so keep your expectations low. Still a nice stop for the Civil War buff.See more..

3.5Trousdale Place(4 reviews) - Civil War era home of a former TN Governor Spent < 1 hour Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Trousdale Place is the handsome home of Gov. William Trousdale. Come tour the home proudly placed on the National Register of Historic Places and Tennessee Civil War Trails while also taking in the sights and shopping of downtown Gallatin. It is located two city blocks west of the Gallatin, Tennessee Public Square. This historic home was built circa 1813 by John H. Bowen, a local attorney and member of Congress. Bowen died in 1822, and the house was later acquired by Governor William Trousdale. The city of Gallatin was developed on part of the original North Carolina land grant #1 awarded to Captain James Trousdale, Governor Trousdale’s father, for his service in the Revolutionary War. In 1812, lots were sold for the construction of the jail, courthouse and other Gallatin city buildings. William Trousdale served in the Creek Indian War, the War of 1812 under Andrew Jackson at Pensacola and New Orleans, the Seminole War of 1836 in Florida, and later was made a brigadier general in the United States Army for his gallantry in the Mexican War. He was one of a very few who served in four wars of the first half of the nineteenth century. Trousdale became a member of the Tennessee State Senate in 1835 and was elected Governor of Tennessee in 1849. He later served as United States Minister to Brazil from 1853 to 1856 during the Franklin Pierce administration. William Trousdale died at Trousdale Place in 1872, and his wife, Mary Ann Bugg Trousdale, continued to live there until her death a decade later, when the home passed to their son, Julius. Julius was a veteran of the Confederate Army and later speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Governor Trousdale's oldest son, Charles, accompanied his father as an aide when Governor Trousdale was appointed minister to Brazil. Charles became a lawyer and while serving in the Confederate States Army, he lost a leg at the Battle of Chickamauga. Both Julius and his only living child, Mary, died in 1899. In 1900, Annie B...See more..
