Lake Isom National Wildlife Refuge, Tennessee, United States

3.5 (7 reviews) Spent Ranking #6 in Tiptonville National Parks

If you like watching lots of Snow Geese fuss at each other you will love this place

The colder it is up north the more ducks, Eagles, and Snow Geese come to Reelfoot and settle down on the Refuge. This year (2017) only about 20,000 showed up but they were a hoot to watch and listen to. The Visitor Center is not the one on the lower bank of Reelfoot Lake. It's about a 20 minute drive up the East side of the Lake. Just get a map and go. Don't be fooled by photographing several hundred Canadian Geese eating on the ground off in the distance. Those are tires stuck in the ground. For the hunters. Yep - don't photograph those! And one last tip - the local roads are numbered for Tennessee. But the northern part of the Refuge is in Kentucky and their roads have different numbers. Just follow the map and ignore the road signs and you'll get back in Tennessee in no time.

Not much to see on this trip
This was a much anticipated return tip for us after a very successful trip in the past. This time there wasn't much to see. Go anyway!!
