  1. 5.0 Temple Theater (100 reviews)
    - That's entertainment
    Saturday: Theaters
    Temple Theater image
If you're new to town or need a fun activity for out-of-town guests, check out the Temple Theater. I saw several shows here recently and always look forward to my time here. It is good quality, family entertainment and I found everything to be comfortable. Director Peggy Taphorn is a class act and always says hi to everyone and is so inviting. Make sure to stop by the Chocolate Cellar next door with your ticket (before or after the show), they will give you a sample truffle but you'll be tempted to buy more (and please do support local businesses as you can). 2. 5.0 Salisbury Ghost Walk (99 reviews)
    - I totally recommend this tour
Saturday: 7:00 PM - 11:15 PM Ghost & Vampire Tours
    Salisbury Ghost Walk image
We had an amazing time learning some of Salisbury’s town history and doing a little ghost hunting as well. I even captured a shadow figure using my phone camera. I went in as a skeptic and was surprised by what I captured. We loved our tour guide. He seemed very knowledgeable and I felt totally safe. Overall we loved the tour. See more..
  3. 5.0 Garage Pass Shop Tours (99 reviews)
    - Fun and informative
    Saturday: Sightseeing Tours
    Garage Pass Shop Tours image
We toured 6 different race teams shops. My communications with Patrick were very helpful , he arrived at our hotel at the appointed time, stopped where the pit crews were practicing, was a wealth of information, went at a pace where you didn’t feel rushed, and answered any questions we had. He was on the lookout for owners or drivers and we were able to meet Joe Gibbs and get an autographed book from him. Would highly recommend taking this tour. See more..

When planning a week at Lake Norman with our grown children, we knew we wanted to rent stand up paddle boards for several days. The folks at Aloha Paddle Sports could not have been more helpful! The owner delivered the boards to the house and then picked them up at the end of our visit. The price was great and included delivery & pick up. The boards & paddles were in great condition and we all had a great time using them! We absolutely recommend Aloha Paddle and will use them on our future visits! See more..
  6. 5.0 Don Gibson Theater (79 reviews)
    - Lovin’ the DGT
Saturday: 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 2-3 hours Theaters
    Don Gibson Theater image
The DGT is a awesome place here in Shelby. The performers are typically top notch. Relatively unknown outside of the area artists entertain in the lounge prior to most of the events in the main theater. I have attended many concerts in the theater - each time I have enjoyed the atmosphere of the theater. It’s large enough to support the well know artists and still maintain an affordable ticket price yet at the same time keep the ‘small personal’ venue it is famous for. Top notch artists from a multitude of genres assure you can find someone you’ll enjoy listing to. My only quarrel would be that the local artists playing in the lounge aren’t really promoted much. I do wish the DGT would include the artists playing the lounge in their advertising. Still, I highly recommend the DGT. Go, you won’t regret a second of it! See more..

The location was not easy to find. There is a cemetery annex behind the V.A. hospital which some websites list as the location. The historic cemetery contains a mass grave with over 11,000 unknown Union soldiers buried there. The cemetery is not very large and is easy to walk around. See more..
  9. 5.0 Petty Museum (76 reviews)
    - A MUST FOR ANY NASCAR FAN
Saturday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Speciality Museums
    Petty Museum image
The Petty Museum is located at the Old Race Shops where so many of those famous #43 race cars were built. It is a wonderful museum that contains a number of race cars that were driven by 4-generations of Petty's. The museum is in two buildings and displays the first car to bear the STP Color of Petty Blue and Dayglow Orange along with the Car that Richard drove in his last race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway in 1992. The staff are excellent, very friendly and helpful and more than willing to answer any questions that you may have. I spent a couple of hours at the museum and feel like that was adequate to see everything that the museum has to offer. I visited in March 2021 and found that the museum and staff were in compliance with all of the COVID protocols that were in place at the time of my visit. I enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend it to any NASCAR Fan. See more..
  10. 5.0 Earl Scruggs Center (74 reviews)
    - We seniors enjoyed it and learned a lot

    Earl Scruggs Center image
It is a unique and excellent museum to the legendary Earl Scruggs and includes many photos, recordings, interactive opportunities. An introductory video is wonderful. Admission price includes a set of earbuds for listening to the many audio opportunities. It is housed in the historic old courthouse which stands in the middle of a lovely parklike area and is in the center of the town. It was a spur of the moment decision to leave the Interstate and follow the signs to the museum, and we were definitely glad we did. Price is reasonable and they discount for AARP. See more..

    - Face to face with my love for racing!!
Speciality & Gift Shops • Speciality Museums
    Richard Childress Racing image
While my wife and I didn't tour RCR because it's closed to the general public, we did visit the RCR Museum. It has a awesome collection of things about Richard himself, and a TON of collection about Dale Earnhardt; ESPECIALLY cars he drove. This is definitely a must see for any fellow fan of Earnhardt or RC, or ANY driver that has driven for RCR through the years. I had a ton of memories seeing most of the cars on display. We also visited Childress Vineyards while we were in the area, which is a review all it's own. If you're ever around the Winston-Salem area, you need to stop through and check it out. See more..

Once the weather cooperated it was awesome. Be prepared that you might not get to go if the weather is not correct for skydiving. I am horrified of heights but love a challenge. I knew I could trust these guys who do this all the time for years. Moose was my tandem guy and was awesome with his humor. Moose was more than experienced and provided a comforting experience for someone like me. He did a great job pointing things out while we were flying around. He showed me how to guide the parachute myself. It was a blast. You MUST do the video! John was my camera guy and was incredible. He too was a great guy and made the experience extra fun. The video is just incredible. Just do it. See more..

Horne Creek Living Historical Farm image
This is a very interesting place to visit to learn about farm life in turn of the century North Carolina. The hosts are very knowledgeable about this working farm and you are free to explore the grounds and tour this beautiful old farmhouse at your leisure. We were greeted by a friendly white cat as soon as we entered the visitor center as well as a beautiful beagle, and then by a very friendly mule, “Charlie”, as we walked down the path to the farm and entered the pasture and barn area. There are goats and chickens too. The house is very interesting with period furnishings, gorgeous hand made quilts, etc and is a very unique step back in time. There is a gift shop at the visitor center and since it is a working farm, they sell the vegetables they grow on the farm in season. It’s a very educational experience for adults and children alike! 37. 5.0 Deep Creek (42 reviews)
    - Beautiful forest and water features, but busy
Spent More than 3 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
    Deep Creek image
We spent a little over an hour and hiked to all three water falls, which is just a bit over 2 miles round trip. The deep creek trail is wide, mostly flat, and paved. It is used by bikers, hikers, and tubers, so it was quite busy the Friday afternoon we visited. The Juney Whank trail is short and clear of roots and rocks, but is challenging because it is steep. All three waterfalls are beautiful, and the trails have a lush forest canopy. We saw wildflowers, but no animals. There are multiple restrooms and parking areas, and a large picnic area. If you want to tube the creek, you can rent tubes right outside the park. This is a fun place to visit. See more..

  40. 5.0 Blue Jay Point County Park (41 reviews)
    - kindergarten field trip, educational and fun
    Parks
Blue Jay Point County Park image
My friend's toddler had a school field trip (his first) to this cute park, which is somewhat near his school. We only got to see a limited part of the whole place, as we were on a timeline, but what we saw was nice. And the kids really enjoyed it. We spent most of our time near the education center, where one of the park rangers gave a lesson about "habitat" to the kids. Then, the kids went to search the nearby pond with nets to see if they could find tadpoles, salamanders, snails, frogs, and the like. The ranger did a good job and the kids had some success retrieving specimens from the pond with the nets....... a good learning experience! The children also were able to use one of the playground areas and the picnic area. The only other thing I noticed about the park is that the facilities, including the restrooms, seemed well-maintained and clean. See more..

Went on The distillery tour with some motorcycle rider friends of mine.the tour was very well organized there was a short film that we watched about The distillery and it answered a lot of questions before the tour began. The person giving the tour was the owner. The tasting afterwards lets you taste all of the available spirits they make there. There's a full service bar there as well and gift shop. We really enjoyed our time there, the bartender was very friendly and knowledgeable. The day we went there they also had a hot dog and sausage Bender outside for food which was fantastic as well I wish I knew the name of that business. But a great time was had by all of us. And I would definitely recommend this and will be coming back. See more..
  44. 5.0 Mouse Creek Falls (36 reviews)
    - Fun and beautiful!
    Waterfalls
    Mouse Creek Falls image
We arrived around noon on a Sunday and the parking was full, so we ended up parking in the horse parking area. Also, the bathrooms were locked. The hike is very enjoyable! Starts out pretty smooth, and most of it is along the river! The rapids were so powerful and gorgeous. You'll see the typical moss & rhodadendren. The waterfall is exquisite however! We passed it at first! If you make it to the bridge turn back and look for the hitching post! The falls are next to that. Definitely recommend! It would be a good one for kids! Would just need to watch them at the falls. See more..
  45. 5.0 Badin Road Drive In Theater (36 reviews)
    - First time
    Movie Theaters
Badin Road Drive In Theater image
It's my first time at a drive in. As best as I can tell, before the movie comes on, this place seems great. Two screens playing two movies each. Concessions with hamburgers, hot dogs, corn dogs, pizza, wings, fries, etc. and of course popcorn. Want something that's not on the menu? Just drive it in. The rules say keep the alcohol in your car. It doesn't say anything about not drinking it in the car. Some tips: The soundtrack is played over FM radio, so bring a portable radio for maximum enjoyment. (They rent radios if you forget.) How are you gonna see the movie? Through the windshield might not be great. I suggest a truck bed or tailgate or lawn chairs. A blanket on the ground will work in a pinch, but you might be on gravel. Want to kill some time before the sky goes dark and the screen lights up? Bring a disk, cards, or other game and make friends with your neighbors before the movie. See more..

My husband and I did the guided sunset paddle. With limited paddling experience, this was a great tour for us. Our guides, Jess and Simon, were friendly and knowledgeable. The tour provided time to relax and enjoy the surroundings between paddles. One of my favorite parts was after dark, in a quiet cove, listening to the frogs. Definitely recommend, especially for those with minimal experience. See more..

Stayed overnight via Harvest Hosts, in our self contained camper , and stopped by the bar for a taste. The Jamarican reserve rum was fabulous! Rich, tasty, smooth! The place is super clean! The outside tent gives plenty of space to accommodate proper distance and enjoy the sunset with a tasty drink. The bar is beautifully set up with modern and rustic touches, truly a great place. Ride LKN Wake & Surf (Watersports Charters) image
Martin and Justin were awesome guides! The boat was in pristine condition and our guides were so enthusiastic. I had never been wakeboarding or wakesurfing before and they got me up within minutes. They got the boards ready, handed me a life jacket, strapped my feet in, and provided excellent instruction for a first timer. I would definitely recommend Ride LKN for anyone who wants to learn how to wakeboard/surf or just wants to cruise the lake. See more..
