   The history of Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum began in June 1975 when the legendary aircraft carrier USS Yorktown entered Charleston Harbor. A few months later, the USS Yorktown was dedicated as the first ship of the Naval & Maritime Museum on the 200th birthday of the United States Navy. Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum was officially opened to the public on January 3, 1976. Today the museum consists of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown (CV-10) with 29 aircraft on display from WWII to the present; the USS Laffey (DD-724), a Sumner-class destroyer; and the USS Clamagore (SS-343), a GUPPY III submarine.    We planned to stop by the Hilton Head Distillery for an hour or so to try some delicious cocktails, however, after going on a tour with Derek (who was extremely knowledgeable and passionate about the spirits and the process) and chatting with the bartenders, we found it hard to leave. The customer service is top notch and the employees were all very passionate about their spirits and sharing their favorite cocktail recipes.     What a wonderful time we had on the sunset cruise. Sheryl guided us around part of the lake sharing the history, geology, and info about the plant and animal life along the shore. There was an opportunity to swim in a small cove which has a waterfall.     I didn’t take a flight, partly coz their two vintage planes were having routine mtce. Otherwise I could have had 15 mins in the air for a reasonable $290. Longer costs more, natch. Very interesting museum - you can wander around the hanger which is stuffed with planes in various states of restoration; engines; WWII rifles etc. They also had the original B-17 Flying Fortress “Memphis Belle” - the actual aircraft used in the film. This wonderful aircraft is still in flyable condition, and if you had been there last time they took up passengers, you could have sat in the bombadier’s nose seat for $650! But the aircraft’s lease is up and it’s returning to whoever owns it to become a static exhibit. But even without the Belle, this place is well worth a visit. See more..

    Just got back from Myrtle. We were there for a softball tourney. A friend of mine wanted to go fishing. I found Captain Smiley via Duck Duck Go search. We had an excellent time!! Weather was nice. We did the full day intracoastal trip. Our Guide "Buddy" was awesome!! Had some great stories and very knowledgeable about the water ways. We started great right out of the gate with 4 fish within an hr. Due to the time of year we mainly drift fished into the currents along the shore lines. We ended up with approximately 15 fish, 7 of them being keepers. All Speckled Trout. There were several very nice sized trouts!! We were debating whose hotel room we were cooking the fish in.. LOL... They suggested Crab Catches right down the road... Crab Catchers fried our fish up for a decent price. We got a load of fries, slaw and hush puppies. We ate like kings!! Overall a great outing.. Beautiful boat. Comfortable seating. And then...the Dolphins OMG...so fun watching them jump the waves behind the boat. They love to play, the minute we spotted them and took off, here they came jumping and twirling. There were a family w 2 little ones. The adults were teaching the babies to jump. Safety was their primary concern, yet they still were on time and very personable: they wanted us to have as much fun as they did—and they delivered. My tandem coach Adam was awesome: matching our descent (free and canopy) to my experience and requests. Videographer Dan was talented, incredible to watch at work, and did a wonderful job. Even Peanut, not doing tandems our day, was on the ground calming the worries of my dear wife the entire time—he eased her fears as much as our family’s safe landing did. I cannot recommend Skydive Carolina enough: if you EVER wondered about the thrill, excitement and fun of skydiving, please make a trip to Chester SC: for us it was well worth 4-5 hrs driving!     Wow, what a beautiful park. Lots of great trails and tall trees. I could’ve spent all day here but didn’t bring my best shoes. Wear your hiking shoes or cross trainers if you’re going to be in here for a while. But it is definitely a must do while you’re in Aiken. The foundation that takes care of this place does a fantastic job. It’s a 2100-acre forest with 70 miles of trails. Keep in mind the trails are sandy for people and horses, so wear good shoes.     I normally don’t do reviews because I truly believe they are all fake. Zipline was my crazy cousins idea and I was skeptical however I under estimated how much fun I would have. We had Mackenzie, Jackson and Aden! They were AMAZING! They made us feel comfortable, safe and gave us lots of laughs! We did the bootleg tour and it was well worth the money! My only recommendation would be for them to provide more options to take pictures during the experience. For example, pictures that actually show how high up in the air you are and pictures of you zipping across the river. Other then that I would definitely go again. If you are not scared of losing or dropping your cell phone I would highly recommend you bring a disposable camera or an old phone that you don’t use anymore to take pictures during the experience. We were staying on Fripp Island so it was a quick trip to Hunting Island State Park where we met a park ranger who took us to the boat landing across the street where we met the naturalists from Coastal Expeditions. Claire from Coastal Expeditions did a fantastic job explaining the ecosystem as the ferry made its way to the island. She also led us to the beach by tram, pointing out more along the way.     Sunrise at Pretty Place shouldn't be missed. It's about an hour's drive from Greenville. Plenty of parking at Pretty Place. Most people are taking photos of the glorious sunrise but everyone was respectful of others. Check campgreenville.org before you go to make sure there's not an activity booked. The kayaks were top of the line with comfortable seats on top and they provided lifejackets and even protective phone cases for the trip. The vibe was awesome.     We took the tour that takes you through the Pinapolis Locks. The Captain was so informative and the ride through the lock was amazing. You start out on the Tailrace Canal and ride over to the Lock where the water level rises 75 feet and you are then in Lake Moultrie. It truly is an engineering marvel.     When I called Blueway adventures, I had a dual purpose: I wanted very specifically to visit the graves of my ancestors who are buried on Church Island in the middle of Lake Marion AND I wanted a fun activity for my extended family that would make getting together fun for all ages.     We had an awesome time tuning over Labor Day weekend. My wife and I and our 2 kids (5 yr old boy/8 year old girl) packed lunches, snacks and drinks and did a 2 hour float down the river. The kids had a blast! We saw turtles, frogs, and several hawks. We will definitely go again and will probably make a whole day of it with Bee City nearby.     Like many other reviewers have mentioned, be prepared for winding roads that continue to narrow into a short one lane road into the woods where you’ll find a small parking lot. That being said, the whole way up to the parking lot is clearly marked and easy to find. There’s a short hike to the falls, slightly inclined but not too bad, easy for even a novice like me! It is a narrow pathway on the edge of a drop off so I would advise parents with small children to keep an eye out. The path to the falls is beautiful with lots of places to stop and check out the creek and even get in for a cool dip. Once at the top, the view opens up to the two waterfalls and boy is it spectacular! There’s even a covered area with a few benches you can sit on and watch the falls. You can even bring a picnic and find a cozy spot to eat. We have absolutely fallen in love with the area and will be back to visit again! See more..
