We come to HHI for biking and to see relatives that live on the island. There is nothing I love more than riding on the beach on a sunny day with the wind at your back at low tide. The wind is important because we are getting up there in age and with a stiff wind behind you it is effortless.See more..
After a morning out at another event, my family and I stopped by the West Columbia Riverwalk Park and Amphitheater for a cool walk. This park is absolutely beautiful! There are scenic views of two bridges, an amphitheater, a picturesque walkway, and stunning views of the Congaree River. The park is serene and set up for a cool walk, run, or stroll. It is definitely worth visiting!See more..
Great place to walk along the catawba River. It felt safe. There were families, dog walkers, leisure bicyclist, joggers and others. It’s a few miles long and backs up to homes in some areas. There were deer in a few wooded places and also in a meadow. The entrance has shops, restaurants and an amphitheater. I imagine when covid ends, it will be even more enjoyable.See more..
We are visiting Asheville and since we enjoy doing these trails we drove down. It’s pretty easy to find and really nice bathrooms at the Market Pavilion. There is also a really great playground that was in use by families. On the trail are several benches to sit and rest although not always in shaded or pretty areas with views. I saw one tire repair station with water refill, which is nice if you need it! We have lived in Florida for the past year which is flat so we have found the hills around NC/SC challenging! The downhill parts are lots of fun as the trail is in great condition and is wide. The uphill parts, well a few of them I thought were never going to end. After I finished I felt accomplished. The trail was very busy the day we were there with families biking and lots of walkers/runners. If I lived around here I would be here frequently.See more..
A short, level hike brought us to the beautiful falls. This was a photographers dream! We ended up spending much longer time here than expected because of its serene beauty.See more..
4.0Pelham Mill Park(17 reviews) - Nice Short Stop if Traveling Through Spent 1-2 hours Parks • Hiking Trails • Playgrounds
This is an interesting location to view the remains of an old dam used to power a mill from a century ago. Only a few bits of the old mill foundation remain, but a good part of the dam is still there. Does not take long to see it. The historical display of what the place used to look like when active is very worn and hard to see. A fairly nice dog park is nearby. This is a good place to stop and take a break from driving and give you dog a stretch. Only a couple of picnic tables there, and no rest rooms or port-a-john.See more..
Walked the Creek Loop. Interesting to learn about the history of the Congree creek area. Beautifully paved and maintained trail. used by walkers, runs, bikers and skateboarders. Glad to have found this hidden gemSee more..
The flood ravaged the greenway. There are still sections that are gone. I can't wait for all the repairs to be made. This area is truly the hidden jewel of the Columbia/Cayce downtown.See more..
5.0Boardwalk Trail(11 reviews) - Lower half was flooded but it was still fun to walk the higher half of this trail. Hiking Trails
The lower end of the boardwalk trail was closed due to flooding and several fallen trees, but the Ranger we spoke to told us that taking the boardwalk to the lake is slightly more than the halfway point, so (to us) it was still very worth visiting. It would be interesting to see what the park looks like when it's not flooded, because some of the pictures people have posted look WAY different than what we saw. The boardwalk path is marked well, and if you don't pick up a paper trail guide, you can download it as well. It's worth it to know what you're seeing. We didn't see any turtles, but we did see a big water snake. As others have pointed out, there will be bugs, LOTS of bugs, but be generous with the bugspray and you'll be fine.See more..

5.0Swamp Fox Murals Trail(7 reviews) - The best Rev. War history example along I-95. Hiking Trails

3.5Blue Heron Nature Center(7 reviews) - Nice little place Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
I live near by so we like to walk the wooden path through the woods and the trail around the small lake. They have pretty flowers in the spring and summer and fall. And Christmas lights in winter. They have little festivals once in a while. The building has stuffed wild animals and plaques to tell you about them. There is a restaurant there but it's closed now and probably for sale.See more..
The park offers a medium sized lake to kayak or fish on. There are also trails throughout for hiking, biking, and OHV. One trail leads to some abandoned gold mines, and if you continue up the mountain there is a lookout tower (can't climb it), but you get 360 degree views of the surrounding area from over 800 feet up. Great views in the Fall! There are also some other trails that offer a more challenging hike, and often times hard to follow the blazes. Overall definitely worth a trip if this sounds like your kind of day adventure.See more..

The cottonwood trail is GREAT and even getting better. The sand path is walk or bike friendly and we go at least once a month. Great views and friendly people. Don’t miss the boardwalk, it’s a little ways in but worth the walk. We’ve seen lots of wildlife in the marsh.See more..

4.5Rocky River Nature Park(4 reviews) - Hidden Hiking Spent 1-2 hours Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
I moved to Anderson about a year ago and the one thing I have missed having access to is hiking. I love downtown Anderson and the activities the community puts on, but being able to get into nature without having to drive too far has been a challenge (and if you know of other places within 15-20 minutes - please share!) Anyway, the review for this popped up when I was doing some reviews for other places in the area. I'm so grateful that it did! I have been there a few times and really enjoy this space. I'll attach a few photos of the different trail markings to give you an idea. I haven't explored everything, but the trails don't seem too long or too strenuous. It's just nice to get out and explore a bit. I hope others find the space, but I admit that I love it when there aren't others around. I've gone out with a friend a few times and the quiet and solitude is really, really wonderful.See more..
This section of The Palmetto Trail starts right across the ricer at the Alston trail head and goes to Pomaria a few miles away. You can also enter from Peak and enjoy the high lite of this section which is the train trestle over the river. Wonderful views can be had. The trail in this section is flat and easy to walk- its the old train line. I like how they have added history markers along the trail-great combo of history and natureSee more..
5.0Forks Area Trail System(3 reviews) - Fun hiking area Hiking Trails Just a few miles from the city, the trails here made us feel way out in the country! Beautiful hike- we hiked the distance to the river. Used gps on phone to keep from getting lost, but trails are marked. Went back a second time and it was closed! So check the website before you go to make sure it's open. Bathroom at the entrance was nice, and so many options on which trail to take keep boredom at bay. Definitely going back! See more..
4.5Blue Ridge Rail Road Historical Trail(3 reviews) - Interesting Railroad history of this area. Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails There is a per head fee to Tunnel park at help with maintance. A fairly easy in and out with a moderate short ascent to get to the main trail. Be aware, can be ticky in the summer and hot! Such interesting history, so worth the hike. By the way, the first review is not of this area, it is about a train excursion that does not exist here.See more..
4.5Virginia Hawkins Falls(2 reviews) - Nice Falls - Downhill in, Uphill out Spent More than 3 hours Hiking Trails • Off-Road & ATV Trails • Waterfalls
Pretty falls when we went, but may not be so in dry weather. Easy downhill hike in, but uphill almost all the way out. About 3 miles roundtripSee more..
This place is hard to find if you have never been there and the GPS will send you to a gated community. When it does go about a mile further down the road towards the Town of Landrum and it is on the left. The hike is not for sissies. It goes straight up and is rather long. The map is kind of misleading but it is fun and a great place to take your dogs. Remember there are other people and keep them on leash and pick up their poop please. we did not finish the entire loop because it was getting dark (rainy) but it is very beaustiful.See more..
My husband and I love taking a few hours to ride our ATVs on the trails. It's a scenic ride through the forest with beautiful view of cypress knobs, and trees. It's a workout and relaxing at the same time. I would go every weekend if I could.See more..
3.0Nanny's Mountain Trail(1 review) - Nice quick hike Hiking Trails I was looking for a quick trail nearby and found this one. It’s easy to get to. The trail starts right from the parking lot. There are no restrooms available. The trail is a wide path, with an initial incline but then curves through the pretty woods. There is a picnic table at the end of the trail but it was broken and had yellow jackets around it. There is another area that had like an educational pavilion and picnic area and that was nice. This is actually a historical site where Revolutionary War iron was mined for weapons. I believe it was like a 1.5 mile hike total. Would be great for kids and dogs. See more..
4.0Cedar Falls Park Trail(1 review) - Easy Hike on paved trail Spent 1-2 hours Hiking Trails We often come here for the 2 mile hike on a paved trail.
