4.5Lake Hartwell(123 reviews) - Love at first sight Bodies of Water
The first time we visited this area was over 20 years ago and we fell in love with Lake Hartwell and the city/town of Anderson, SC. So much so that we made the decision to retire here when the time came. Well the time has come and Lake Hartwell is still our pick.See more..

This park features a 200 acre lake, fishing, picnic shelter and areas, multiple trails (including a fitness trail), camping, a small two acre pond, a playground, and a very neat dock. This park has some other very cool tidbits as well, such as the boat rentals and the fishing gear loaner program. For 25$, you get a boat with an electric motor. You can also get fishing gear at the office - it’s just a great way to let the kids experience something without laying out a large investment. The park also has multiple programs throughout the year, so check the website when coming out - it’s sure to be a great experience. See more..
3.5Blue Heron Nature Center(7 reviews) - Nice little place Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
I live near by so we like to walk the wooden path through the woods and the trail around the small lake. They have pretty flowers in the spring and summer and fall. And Christmas lights in winter. They have little festivals once in a while. The building has stuffed wild animals and plaques to tell you about them. There is a restaurant there but it's closed now and probably for sale.See more..
4.0Weston Lake(5 reviews) - Great Trail Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
The Weston Lake Loop Trail in Congaree National Park was one of my favorite hikes. It is a much more narrow and rugged than many of the other trails. It is flat, but has a lot of uneven ground and exposed roots. It also gets you close to Weston Lake and several other beautiful sights.See more..

3.0Laney Landing at Riverside Park(1 review) - Picnic At The Great Pee Dee River Spent < 1 hour Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Parks
This park has been here for many years and has a large parking lot , so you can always find a spot . There is a covered area with picnic tables and a large brick grill . You could do small gatherings such as birthday parties or such here . There is a small boat landing if you want to go fishing in the Great Pee Dee River . There are also several benches where you can lookout at the river and look for birds and watch the water go by . There is also a cool bridge which I assume goes to a walking trail . I haven't been here for years , so when I visited Cheraw in September , I came by to check it out . I use to come here with some girls I dated back in the 80's when I was in high school in Bennettsville and dated some Cheraw and Chesterfield girls . I now live in Las Vegas , Nevada and get back to the Carolinas about every 5 years . There is also a historical marker which is hard to read now , but I found a website with what it says .See more..
5.0Cedar Creek(1 review) - Best Way to See Congaree NP Tuesday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Bodies of Water
Congaree National Park has several trails to hike to see this incredible old growth bottomland forest. However, to really experience it you need paddle Cedar Creek that runs through the park's Wilderness Area. For me this was an incredible experience. Here the forest is the incredible mixture of fairyland meets Jurassic Park. There is really no place you can experience an old growth canopy that provides this feeling. We launched at the bridge of the Kingsnake Trail and headed downstream, southeast. The first section for me was the most enjoyable paddle. However, when we came to Dawson Lake, an old oxbow of the river, we saw the wildlife that the park is know for. Yes it is here we first began to see snakes as well as a small resident alligator named "Squishy". You will also see some of the amazing loblollys that the park is famous for. Up until that time we had paddled under a canopy of tupelos and cypress. We then continued deeper into the park, going about 2.5 miles before turning around. In the last section, we saw a beaver lodge and a barred owl, park mascot. Overall it was an incredible experience. While I enjoyed the hikes, I really thought the best way to see the forest and the park was by a paddle on Cedar Creek.See more..
