We were looking for some where cool to walk our dog while we were staying in Spartanburg. This was a gem and a great find. It was a beautiful walk beside a stream with waterfalls. I love waterfalls! There is part of the trail that goes up a hill. It is in a circle area. I'm not sure I would have found it if it weren't for our dog insisting to go that way. I was glad she did. We found ourselves in the middle of a field of bamboo. It was very cool to walk through. GPS took us to the wrong side of the bridge where there isn't any parking. After walking across the bridge we found parking so we moved our car instead of leaving it on the roadside. This was a very enjoyable morning walk. See more..
  2. 4.5 Ashmore Heritage Preserve (6 reviews)

This is a property administered by the state of South Carolina, but donated by a family in honor of their father, who loved this property of 1,200 acres of handsome land. There is no charge to hike here, and the area fortunately is closed to mountain bikes. One can find easy (predominately flat) to strenuous hikes here. There is a large pond and in winter and spring from there is a view of a cascade up on Green Mountain. Spring allows the visitor to find many wildflowers. There are plenty of opportunites for nature photography. This is a perfect place to “forest bathe” i.e. wash your brain and senses in the beauty of Nature. At the trailhead there is a posted map. Take a photo with your phone before you head out. No public bathrooms. See more..

I've known this building since late 2002, at first I thought, "kinda junky looking, should be fixed up", but I have known it for 16 years now, and I know it's place in SC history. I was there on Thursday, the 9th, 2019, at the time, it was undergoing restoration, and there was no building there, and it looked very odd after knowing it for so long! Very early in restoration, I had the chance of going inside, and I can't wait for it to be finished, and see the wheels moving, and how it will function. Very excited about that! I also love the sound of the Tyger River flowing by it. It really is a peaceful place! See more..

Well-marked trail that was very nicely shaded for a warm July morning. Hike down to the creek for a bridge quaintly called "The Rainbow Bridge." We loved that as anyone who has ever lost a pet knows of the Rainbow Bridge. The way back was mostly uphill but still very doable. Enjoyed this trail very much though it is rather isolated. There were two other people on the trail while we were there so we felt safe. See more..
  6. 5.0 Laurel Fork Heritage Reserve (1 review)
    - One awesome place near Jocassee Gorge
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
It is 43,000 acres of wonderfulness. Many trails, paths, waterfalls, and Lake Jocassee. I can be reached by boat from Jocassee, or hiking along CaneBrake trail ( 8 miles or so each way) or the Foothills trail connector near Jumping off rock. It can be a challenge to hike around but the views and scenery are worth it You can do day hikes or overnights and camp under the stars. Depends what you want. Another amazing place in South Carolina. See more..
