Historic Old Pickens Cemeteries, Kiosk and Grounds are open for visitors every day of the year during daylight hours. Old Pickens Presbyterian Church is open with docents available from 2:30 to 5:00 on second and fourth Sundays from April through October. The Church is the lone remaining building of the town of Pickens Court House. It sits on the old Main Street (the old Cherokee Nation War Path) on a hill above the Keowee River.See more..

I think my sister found this place on a website named something like Roadside Oddities. The hours available were published and we arranged to arrive during their Thursday night hours. We were able to find a dining room area where several people seemed to be wrapping up an evening meal of pizza etc. We asked around and found a very nice man who took us to the Upper Room. The entire experience was a bit disappointing for a few reasons: 1. having to ask to be admitted. 2. the Upper Room had been used for a meeting or something and was kind of in disarray. 3, The fellow who took us up there did not offer to tell us anything about the room. This is a large church, but appeared to be a very friendly and welcoming church. If you like a bible preaching church that tells it the way it is written in the bible, this is it. I felt like the preacher did an excellent job and would definitely go again when I am town again. The music was excellent as well. It was a blend that was very well done. As much as I like all kinds of music and I like it loud in my car, I do NOT like to feel like I am at a rock concert when I go to church. I like quality music and FBT did well with this. This couch does not seem to be the kind that looks to just entertain you on Sunday mornings: there is a real message here and I find that lacking in some churches I have visited. I have watched the church's live broadcast a few times and the consistency is there online and in person from what I have seen.See more..

great old church located out in rural SC. Has quite a Civil War story attached to it. Sherman's troops used the wood from the interior to help build a bridge to for the river. Lovely structure in great condition. cemetery is loaded with old graves of Revolutionary and Civil War combatants. Very peaceful place. Great experience for history buffs. Nice to see old places like this preserved.See more..

Before you go to Catholic Hill section of Walterboro it is important to get yourself familiar with the amazing history of this important church complex. St. James the Greater is a historically African-American church created in 1830s by Irish slave owners. For a period of time the members performed their services and had to worship without a priest till they were discovered by a traveling preacher, Father Daniel Berberich in 1897. The current "new" church was built in 1935 using leftover materials from the old church which burnt out. The complex has a former school house built for African American children and active till 1960s. Do not miss the interesting 19th century graveyard. Overall St. James the Greater Catholic Church is arguably the most important place to visit in the area at least in the eyes of historians.See more..

Extremely cool building and a stroll through the adjacent cemetery is humbling. We went to visit the grave of a 5th great grandfather and found him beside many others who also fought in the Revolutionary War.See more..

very historic cemetery in the back country of the state. Various graves from the American Revolution. It's most famous is the grave of Andrew Jackson father. Also his brother is buried here as well. The original church structure is no longer standing- but this church has some great history to it. Just seeing the old headstones is quite the site. well maintained and easy to find. A must stop if in the area exploring sites of Andrew Jacksons life.See more..

We have seen "MercyMe," "Casting Crowns," and just recently "Big Daddy Weave." We have had some nice memorable moments here as well, and the staff are always very friendly, parking is easy, and it is on a main road in easy drive of multiple restaurants. We look forward to going to many more concerts here in the future because they do such a GREAT job hosting these special shows.See more..
More known as The White church, this old wooden structure is a true historic gem. Lovers of old time Americana will be in their glory. walking around the structure is amazing=it's in great condition. The modern Lutheran church sits across the street. The have left a stand where visitors can get a pamphlet talking about the history of the church and structure, I suggest this place for those who love old buildings and those who like to study church history. Very pleased. FREE attraction. I believe the church is open certain times for public viewing of the inside.See more..
