    - Love this place!

Don’t miss the MC Escher exhibit that is included with your $10 entrance fee for the next month or so! I have been coming to this museum from time to time for over four decades and it just keeps improving on me. The permanent collection includes selections from many eras & cultures for a small museum. As a lover of Renaissance art, the highlight for me is the Botticelli Nativity that is the only one exhibited outside of Italy. The traveling exhibits which change periodically are always amazing. A few years ago they had an incredible impressionist exhibit. A year or so ago we came to see Van Gogh, and this time it was Escher. Sign up for their email updates to keep up with special events & traveling exhibitions. There is definitely something for art lovers in the South Carolina capital! See more..
  3. 4.0 Greenville County Museum of Art (216 reviews)
    - Recovery
    Tuesday: Art Museums
Greenville County Museum of Art image
I’ve lived in Sumter, SC and upon entering the impressive TALL wooden doors was absolutely delighted to be greeted by the wooden mock-up of “Recovery” by Granger McCoy, whose final piece is in Swan Lake Iris Gardens in Sumter. I recognized it immediately and it made me happy. I wanted to see the Wyeth paintings and was introduced to a variety of other artists. We had some questions about some of the themes and statements of the art, and as we were finishing up one of the docents who had been leading another group asked our small family group if we had any questions. It was the end of the day, I believe from an overheard conversation with other staff that she was getting off work and heading to the beach, but she took her time and delightfully answered our questions in a very engaging way. We are so fortunate to have this museum in Ridgeland. The programs offered are varied so there is something for every age. There are many free exhibits, demonstrations and speeches as well as classes in exercise, art, culinary, crafts, etc. for a very reasonable fee. The last instructional class that I attended, taught me to make beautiful Christmas wreaths from magnolia leaves and bows. It was sponsored by our local Garden Club so we learned from the best!
