The areas open to the public are relatively small due to COVID, but this visitor center offers the things you need most for a successful visit to Congaree National Park. The ranger staff is excellent and eager to help any questions you might have. They have the usual NP maps and also maps specifically for the trail system. There are bathrooms, and I would definitely recommend using them because the only other bathrooms I saw were in the campground area. The gift shop is small, but has a number of nice items. The staff inside has specific instruction for finding the General Greene Tree on the Bates Ferry Trail.See more..

4.0Fort Mill Welcome Center(6 reviews) - Very impressed! Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers This is probably the best welcome center I've ever experienced! We stopped in to get a map, as we needed directions to our hotel in Rock Hill. The older gentleman who helped us was a gem (sorry I forgot his name). He was very friendly, and extremely helpful. He showed us around the welcome center and offered us plenty of maps etc, and even pulled up our hotel on the big screen to get directions for us and then printed them off. We had a nice long chat with him and left the center loaded up with all sorts of brochures, now keen to visit loads of places we hadn't even planned to visit! Would highly recommend anyone stop by just to browse the brochures.See more..

On a trip from North Carolina to Texas, I made a stop at the Welcome Center with my dog. One of my very expensive boots feel out during that stop. When I stopped in Greenville, SC, I realized I was missing a boot. Realizing the Welcome Center was my only stop, I made a call to the them and talked to a very helpful employee, Marielena Petruska. She found my boot and held it until I made the trip to retrieve it. Marielena is my hero!!See more..
