  1. 3.0 South of the Border (960 reviews)
    - Rates are increased, still no amenities.
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    South of the Border image
This has always been a go to spot for us. It was reasonably priced, and always very clean. Yes, it’s dated, the bedding was old as were the linens, etc., but it was clean. They recently raised their rates, comparable to the better known chains, Hampton Inn, comfort inn, etc. Unfortunately, they cannot keep up with the amenities of these other hotels. Too bad, it was a good value, but not anymore. They’ve also closed the hot tamale restaurant, and a redirecting everyone to the sombrero period, twice the price. See more..

    - Very Nice park with lodge n golf course

Hickory Knob State Resort Park and Campground image
We drove past the golf course on the way to the park office and the course looked in good shape. Arriving at the office revealed a large office with, part-time restaurant, rental rooms and a lodge for visitors. Much of the rooms faced right out toward the big lake. We were told that colleges bring their golf teams here for tournaments and stay in the lodge, rooms, or barracks. See more..
  6. 3.5 Daufuski Discoveries Day Tours (48 reviews)
    - A rip off
    Boat Tours
    Daufuski Discoveries Day Tours image
Booked to go out for a day trip from Harbourtown Hilton Head Island. Cost of round trip $29.50pp which was good value as it was a pleasant 30 minute boat trip both ways on a comfortable boat, saw plenty of wildlife - birds and dolphins. We elected to rent a golf buggy to explore Daufuskie at $30pp ($60 for a buggy). Buggy we got was a bit dilpatated and regularly backfired - speed nothing above about 4-5mph so it took quite a while to get around the island. The sights we visited were well signed and interesting. Only one place to get a coffee - by the ferry stop and that was only instant coffee at $2.50 a cup - expensive. The island is worth a visit but don't get the golf buggy. There is a guided bus tour - but we never saw the bus once whilst we were on our travels so not sure where it went. - cost for that was about $20 each. No restrooms anwhere on the island apart from in coffee shop at ferry. See more..
  7. 3.5 CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park (36 reviews)
    - Great summer venue!!
    Convention Centers
CCNB Amphitheatre at Heritage Park image
I have seen a couple different concerts here, and have enjoyed them immensely. Both times I sat in the sections with actual seats, which I think helped solidify my enjoyment. The seats are extremely close to the stage, and you get a great view. The acoustics are pretty awesome as well! There are only a few negatives. First of all, while the parking event staff do a great job when everyone is arriving, departure is a free-for-all. Secondly, apparently Simpsonville has a noise ordinance after 11 PM, so concerts will end pretty abruptly if they reach that mark. Finally, it's kind of annoying that most events are non-refundable if the weather doesn't cooperate. I understand it's outside, but come on. I’d at least like a credit to put towards another event. Other than that, it's a wonderful place to spend a night listening to great music, and I will definitely be back! See more..
  8. 3.5 Kid Venture Playground (33 reviews)
    - Safety Issue resolved!
    Playgrounds
    Kid Venture Playground image
So pleased to visit Kid Venture playground and note they have put up a gate on both the Toddler and the Main playgrounds. I am in my 70's and just couldnt keep ahead of my 2 & 3 year old greatgrandsons when they'd head towards the pond! I dont have to worry about chasing them down now. Kid Venture has been greatly improved. I would love to see the picture of the old yellow swing removed that I posted some time ago. New swings have been added, the ducks cant get in and the toddlers can get out now. Not sure who to thank, the City of Anderson, Parks & Recreation, but we now have a safe clean playground of which we can be proud! See more..
  9. 3.0 Shipwreck Cove (30 reviews)
    - Needs to be maintained better
Tuesday: 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM Water Parks
    Shipwreck Cove image
I brought ny kids last year and all was well. They do let an ungodly anount of people in before they stop letting people come in.The lifegaurds are all kids under 18 that dont watch the kids well.I told them when my daughter went down the water slide to watch her when she landed because she couldnt swim. And sure enough they were talking about some concert and let her sink like a rock.I had to jump in the pool and save her.Restrooms have to have new diseases unknown to man yet.Yuck! But all in all it will do for a hot day.Went to the dry park today. The actual dry park has foam ground that is crumbling, peeling back, and coming un attached to the ground,so your kids will continually trip over it. Kida arent picky,so just because I dont like it does not mean the kida wont. See more..

It took us almost 2 hours to get there from Murrells Inlet and very disappointing when we arrived there. It looks much bigger in photos and in about 20 minutes or less we were ready to leave. The Spirit of Lake Murray image
We were looking for a place to eat on Easter, so we decided to go out on the Spirt, We've been out before, had a good time, so we went again, It's nice to be out on the water, and be able to relax, one thing we always worried about was drunk boaters on the water, being on the spirit is much safer, the boat is steal hull, and a large boat, so if someone hits it, well that's bad for them. The food was good and the staff was friendly. See more..
  17. 3.5 Anchor Lanes (20 reviews)
    - Great Changes
Tuesday: 9:00 AM - 12:00 AM Bowling Alleys
    Anchor Lanes image
If bowling was not enough, the new changes are a fantastic addition. The menu is expanded (although a bit pricey). They have taken out some walls and expanded the game room. It now includes games that you would want to play. It is a card swipe system like Frankie's and D&B. Tickets for the prizes. The pro shop is now a ticket return store with toys/trinkets that kids would actually want. The video boards are up to date with cute animation depending on how you bowl. They are even putting in laser tag soon. It has a family friendly feel with something for kids through adults. Even teens will find the new Anchor Lanes enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend this as a great night/day out with the family. See more..

We visited here because it was just a little drive from Hickory Knob SP. upon getting to the parking area we immediately see a large building housing the office, bathrooms, and a nice picnic area overlooking the lake. There is also a nice playground area nearby. We drove the very narrow and rough circular road to check out the cabins n camping area. Road needs work but nice camping area. See more..
  19. 3.5 Battle of Camden Historic Site (18 reviews)
    - Patriot loss during the Revolution
    Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites
Battle of Camden Historic Site image
I went to both the historic site and the battlefield. There is onsite parking at both. The battlefield has a few monuments and markers, but there is not currently much to it. The gentleman at the historic site said they were planning on improvements. The historic site was unique, but due to a festival in the immediate area tours were suspended and most buildings were closed. Walking around was still pretty interesting. There is a 10 minute drive between sites. No one is physically located at the battlefield, but if you call in advance you can set up a walking tour for a small price. See more..
  20. 3.5 Sams Plantation Complex Tabby Ruins (15 reviews)
    - Good insight into the history of Dataw Island
Tuesday: 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Ancient Ruins • Points of Interest & Landmarks
Sams Plantation Complex Tabby Ruins image
Attended a lecture and tour of the ruin site arranged by the Osher Life Long Learning Institute. Gated, planned golf club community of Dataw Island is gorgeous, and this site sits right between part of a golf course and their tennis courts. The lecture was given in their brand new history center building, and outlined the history of this area and site over the last 12,000 years--from its original indian inhabitants to the Sams and other families and owners and their efforts to develop the island during the Colonial era through the Civil War and subsequent eras, and on up until the current day. Informed lecturers, the ruins were right outside the door, and both served to give us a good impression of what life might have been like here a few hundred of years ago. See more..
  21. 3.0 Simply Skin by Sonya Heitmuller (13 reviews)
    - Excellent massage
    Spas
The young lady who did the massage was very good. This was a groupon massage with aromatherapy. The choices of oils was limited and my favorite (lavender) was not available because the owner was allergic. The oils did not seem pure, but artificial. That being said, this was one of the best massages I have ever experienced. I actually relaxed and fell asleep several times. Her pressure during the massage was appropriate and she asked during the massage if I needed anything adjusted. I would return for the massage; I would not ask for the oils again. See more..

This is a very large antiques mall, with individual vendors having "booth" areas to display in. We really enjoyed poking around on a hot afternoon, and it was very cool inside. The variety of items for sale was wide, interesting, and well-priced. If only we had a larger home, there were several items we were very interested in! One thing to note for the ladies... you are required to leave your purses and totes in a locker, and you are given the key. Sounds like they've had plenty of issues with theft, which is a shame. This was really a fun couple of hours. See more..

    - Just a regular bowling alley
Bowling Alleys • Game & Entertainment Centers
Nothing over the top about the bowling alley. The grounds are clean but need to be updated. The music wasn't loud enough and I wish they would turn the black lights on earlier than 10 pm. Prices are reasonable to play, a little pricey on the concessions. It can get packed on a Sunday night with a bunch of college kids who of course don't know how to behave. Other than that it was a fun place to go for a last minute activity. See more..

    - Great kids classes!
Lessons & Workshops • Cooking Classes
My son has taken many classes and has gotten to learn skills and try new foods. One of his favorites was making sushi. Sushi was new to him. He never ate it before! Making good sushi rolls is not easy. He did great and was scared to taste it, but since he made it he tried it and actually liked it. The best week long class was "around the world" 4 day class over school break. Everyday was a different country with different foods. Made fresh pasta, fresh Salsa and tacos, Pork chops with leeks and apples. They make extra food so he was able to bring samples of his food home and show the family what he made. He has learned knife skills, making pasta, and used a bunch of ingredients that we normally don't use. The kids classes are great. They sometimes have a kid and parent class too, where the kids are in charge and the parents are the helper. Fun way to spend time together. See more..
