  4. 4.5 Liberty State Park (1.498 reviews)
    - Huge but pretty

    Liberty State Park image
We used liberty state park to access the Statue city cruises' ferry to the Statue of Liberty's, Liberty Island. GPS. Gets you to the state park just fine, but once in the park, it leads you to the visitor center, which opened at 8:00 a.m., luckily for us. The young man was frei fly and helpful. He pointed us in the right direction. The state park is huge and we easily could have missed out 9:00 a.m. ferry traversing the long and plentiful roads of the park. If you are going for a scheduled ferry, arrive early to figure out where to go. Liberty State Park was beautiful and had lots of great views of New York and Lady Liberty. See more..

They charged $27 person (adults) in online, and $5 more in ticket counter... we really shocked why it was charged for such small place and nothing much for adults once we were inside...Overrated and dont recommend to anyone See more..
  7. 3.0 Six Flags Hurricane Harbor (623 reviews)
    - Gate price vs online
    Water Parks
    Six Flags Hurricane Harbor image
Do NOT buy your tickets at the park. I went on Fri Aug 12. There are no ticket booths open. You have to go to customer service where there is one employee working. There were about 25 people on line when I got there. A one day ticket on line is 40 plus a $14 service fee. At the park the same ticket is $70. I was told I could step off the line and buy it on my phone and it would be immediate delivery but they would not honor the price in person. It's crazy. I tried calling numerous times to get a gate price and I was told they couldn't give me one because the price changes daily based on demand. It's crazy. I will say it wasn't crazy busy. Our longest wait was less than a half hour. Park was clean including bathrooms. See more..

Thomas Edison National Historical Park image
My wife and I visited in early September. We are from rural Minnesota. Needless to say, we were a little nervous about navigating the metro New York City freeway traffic to get to Thomas Edison National Historical Park and a little uncertain on what to expect for the neighborhood surrounding the park. Thankfully, everything turned out great, and Thomas Edison National Historical Park was one of our favorite stops on our 10-day East Coast trip!! I keep revisiting in my mind how touring the grounds felt like Thomas Edison and his crew took a lunch break and to expect them back in an hour. Everything seemed so very well preserved - just amazing! Realize there are endless things to do in and around New York City, but please make an effort to stop here - you will be extremely delighted with your stay and have many wonderful stories to tell family and friends. - Excellent walking tour!
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours National Parks
Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park image
The history of the City of Paterson includes its beginnings as the ambitious project of Alexander Hamilton and the Society for Establishing Useful Manufacturers (S.U.M.) in 1792 at the Great Falls, the early development of water power systems for industrial use, and the various types of manufacturing that occurred in the District's mills into the 20th Century. These included cotton fabrics, railroad locomotives, textile machinery, jute, and silk spinning, weaving, and dyeing, among many others. The Great Falls also represents compelling stories of the lives of immigrants who labored in the mills, those who owned and operated manufacturing concerns and became wealthy, and the quest of laborers and the labor movement for better working conditions and pay. Immigrants still settle today in Paterson to pursue their versions of Hamilton's vision, creating a diverse and vibrant culture. See more..

  18. 4.5 Branch Brook Park (248 reviews)
    - Cherry blossoms
    Thursday: 6:00 AM - 7:00 PM Parks
    Branch Brook Park image
I was fortunate enough to see the cherry blossoms in full bloom here a few years ago. This year, not so lucky. There were still some cherry blossoms around but I think we came about a week too late. We dropped by on a Saturday at around 1 pm and it was pretty crowded. We were afraid of what the parking situation would look like but it was actually pretty easy to find free street parking. Even though there were a lot of parked cars, it seemed like someone was always leaving. Will try again next year but will go on a weekday just to avoid the crowds. Also seems like a nice place for a picnic, which not a lot of people were doing. Most were just crowding around the few cherry blossoms that were still in bloom. Tip - there's a cherry blossom cam on their site (but seems like only a few of them work) See more..

Everyone at Somerset County parks were wonderfully cooperative and I cannot thank Karen Behr for all of her great help. We reserved the Knob Hill picnic grove and it was a great place. The park guards were doing some maintenance and quickly advised us that the only trails for bikes were the on the other side of the road. Regardless, we enjoyed the beautiful park. We were on both playgrounds with our 8 and 6 YO, walked down to and around the pond and crossed to the Longstreet Farm which was so cute and informative!! Cheesquake is a beautiful amazing place! We had a great experience & would have given 5 stars, except for the bathrooms which were moldy. If I had time, I would have cleaned it myself (I like cleaning bathrooms! It's really not difficult if is cleaned regularly & have the right cleaning products.) Anyway, the park is so BEAUTIFUL, peaceful, amazing wildlife, especially birds, great location about 20 miles from the nearest beach & very close to stores and restaurants, all of the spaces are very spacious (even the smaller ones) compared to some RV parks where everyone is on top of each other, all of the staff were sooooo nice, friendly & helpful, we felt very safe in the campground... & all of this for a fair price! We will DEFINITELY stay here again (& I will bring my bathroom cleaning products with me!) See more..

    Turkey Swamp Park image
We camped here on a one night stopover while traveling south to North Carolina from our home on Cape Cod. After many hours of driving especially past the metropolitan area, it was nice to find a state park in which to camp. Although it was early in the camping season (late April), about a dozen other campers were here, too. We can only imagine how nice it must be during the summer. Our campsite was sizable and private, as the park is nicely wooded. We liked having a secure trash can and recycling bin at every site. The path around the bathhouse and the adjacent parking spaces are paved, so no risk of muddy feet after showering. The restrooms were clean. We took advantage of the heated laundry room to wash our dishes and catch a little warmth as it was chilly and windy during our stay. The staff patroled the grounds and kept everything in good order. Turkey Swamp was a good place to camp. See more..

As of July 17, 2020 the beach is closed due to algae bloom for the rest of the summer. The boat launch is closed due to the virus. Capacity of the area is limited due to the virus, so it closes sometimes before noon. Other local towns have been over run by this overflow and most of these towns had to close their South Branch River access, also for the rest of the summer. Some of these nearby towns were advertised on social media causing this over crowding. Off season offers free parking, no crowds, but no swimming or boat rentals. See more..

My wife and our 22 year old son and I did a great 4+ mile hike on a hot Sunday morning. We arrived about 11am and there was ample parking ($5) . We hiked from lot A on the white trail- connected to the red trail and went past the lake ; and then kept following the red trail to the green trail and back to white - which dropped us back near lot A. It was hilly and rocky but the trails are well marked and well maintained. There is a beautiful garden on the grounds and the restrooms were open. Masks a must on the public grounds. It’s worth a visit. See more..
