5.0Delaware Water Gap(28 reviews) - Natural Beauty and Recreation Bodies of Water • Nature & Wildlife Areas • Hiking Trails
As the Delaware River flows south along the Kittatinny Mountains, it looks for a path through the mountains in order to continue its relentless journey southeast to the ocean. Between Mt. Tammany and Mt. Minsi, not far from East Stroudsburg, PA, the river finds the gap it needs and flows through creating a wonderfully scenic natural area. Although man now shares the gap with the river, using it as a corridor for railroads, Interstate 80, Hwy 611 and the Appalachian Trail, it remains surprisingly wild; offering hiking, camping, fishing, canoeing and a sanctuary for wildlife that includes deer, bear and wild turkeys, not far from New York City and Philadelphia. The best views of the Delaware Water Gap are from overlooks near the summit of Mt. Tammany along the strenuous Red Dot Trail accessed from the Dunnfield Creek Natural Area parking lot.See more..
4.5Mill Creek Marsh(27 reviews) - Love the sights, Beautiful place to take a walk Bodies of Water
My fiance and I went for a walk here on a beautiful spring like day. Very nice to walk, jog or just to take photos. So many animals, birds, fish etc. I look forward to taking my DSLR here and taking many more photos. It is located in the heart of the Meadowlands, It was winter when I visited, but it was a 60 degree day. In the Spring, Summer I am sure it will be that much more beautiful. Nice bridges, walks, places to sit and enjoy. Very well maintained by the Meadowlands commission. If you have hard time to find this place, it is right next to where Toys R us, Bobs discount furniture, near the side of the buildings and extending well into the marsh.See more..
Not sure where people got the idea that this place is dirty. I stopped here two days in a row to photograph the dam and it was clean both days. There is a path that takes you to the bottom of the falls as well as one that overlooks the falls from the top. The lake was clean. There were a few common mergansers swimming a little further up the lake. Enjoyed the visit, took a lot of photos of the dam, including 1/2 second time exposure. Looking forward to visiting again.See more..
This is a beautiful spot in the middle of NJ's heartland. There are many short or long hikes to choose from that can reaches moderately difficult levels with some very limited incline. Most people do some variation of hiking around and through the reservoir. You can stroll through wooded areas with peeks to the reservoir or sit by the pristine waters. There are a number of adjoining trails where you can divert and seek out interesting finds here and there. There's parking in little nooks in the adjoining towns. We started in Harmony; however, there are plenty of folks who start at the Visitor's Center (currently closed), which sits on the north eastern edge of the reservoir and is where the boat launch is located. At some points of the year, there is regulated hunting and this spot is home to several eagles. We saw the nests. By definition, it is serene.See more..
4.5Atsion Lake(20 reviews) - Pine Barrens Pristine Lake Bodies of Water
Lovely lake near the headwaters of the Mullica river. Good place to kayak or canoe either around the mile or so long lake or to start a day trip down the Mullica. Small guarded swimming beach near entrance (it’s part of Wharton State Park). Minimal charge to use lake during the summer. Also a number of rustic cabins nestled here and there around lake rented out by State. See more..
After walking down Front Street hitting all the antique shops, my wife and I accidentally found this beautiful waterfront park. Few people were there, being a Friday afternoon, so it was a nice, peaceful place to sit and watch the birds and boats go by. There are 4 large benches, maybe the town could add a second staggered row of three to increase sitting capacity?See more..
4.0Watchung Lake(18 reviews) - FRI 10 JAN 2020 FULL MOON WALK Spent 1-2 hours Bodies of Water
Unusually high temp for a Jan evening 60* Walked around the lake 4 times, trying to catch glimpses of geese and ducks in the Watchung Lake. Several times the moon was out of the clouds making the whole atmosphere silvery. There are several spots to relax on a bench or a gazebo. The fountains were not active, they are shut down for winter. There is a waterfall. It is noisy because of traffic, but I was enjoying my walk, full moon & the lake. There is plenty of parking, no restrooms. People were walking their dogs. Some joggers.See more..

What a great place for a swim on a hot day! They also have stand up paddle boards and kayaks for rent. It was $6-adult and $4-child and $2-senior to swim. There was an inexpensive snack bar also. My kids loved the beach and had fun playing in the sand and cooling off in the lake. I came here as a young girl and now it's fun that my own kids love it. It's quiet and peaceful and full of wildlife. Definitely a hidden gem!See more..

5.0Willingboro Lakes County Park(1 review) - What A Strange but Fun Experience! Bodies of Water • Hiking Trails • Forests If you have ever been stopped at a certain traffic light on Rt 130 North, you're sitting next to Willingboro Lakes County Park. We have been meaning to visit this park forever since we've driven past it for years. The county finally overhauled the park, creating a new, safer entrance, a picnic grove, and a play area. The trails have been upgraded. I know, a park along busy Rt 130 doesn't sound thrilling, correct? But once you loop at the back of the larger lake, it's relatively quiet and pleasant. The actual lakes are in a pit (this was a former quarry) so you definitely go up and down along the lake's edge. Even when you walk between the two lakes and can definitely hear the traffic, you can still turn away and tune it out. Plus there are frogs, turtles, ducks, and birds, which pleases these two old ladies. We just like nature! Be warned: if you don't like dogs, you won't like this park. Many local folks use the park to exercise their pups. Oh the whole the pups were on leashes and well-behaved.See more..
5.0Lions Park(1 review) - Local town park hidden away... Great for little ones Bodies of Water • Parks • Playgrounds This is a park that I brought my kids too multiple times a week when they were little. We recently went back here when my daughter was learning to drive and it has not changed at all. There is a small area by a creek in the back that you can check out... A fun day of memories See more..
1.0Hopewell Quarry(1 review) - Glorified day camp Bodies of Water The Quarry used to be an oasis of calm, but since being purchased by a nonprofit, it has turned into a glorified day camp for unruly kids. There's not a minute in the day that you can enjoy the once peaceful surroundings of this natural setting. Multiple-day and season passes used to be the only option for swimming here. Now that day passes are sold, the place is completely overrun by mobs of obnoxious teenagers. Parents are more than happy to spend $25 to drop their kid off for the day. During the week, actual day camps have the place until 3 p.m., so you don't want to go then. And don't even think about coming on a weekend or holiday! It's a madhouse. I no longer see families with young children here. The pool is empty most of the time. It's too expensive for families. The snack bar is closed, so there's no affordable food. They sell tiny blobs of gourmet ice cream for $6 and ice sticks for $3. Food trucks sell overpriced, mediocre food on the weekends. Families have to pack their own food and drinks if they want to spend the day, and it's too much trouble. The bathrooms also are closed. A port-a-potty truck is onsite, but the cubicles are too small to allow a parent to help a young child. The nonprofit now owns this place in perpetuity, so this is what to expect going forward. It's a shame. When it was family-owned, this place was a gem. It's a waste of money now to buy a season pass – the camps and day-trippers have priority over those who have spent the most money. If you must, buy a day pass and decide for yourself.See more..
