Batsto Village is a wonderful place to visit. All the historical homes in NJ are. This trip however was just for the hiking trail. Today is 97° and sunny and we choose to do the WHITE trail which is a 4 mile loop. We are very physically fit and this hike, even in this heat, wouldn't normally bother us. What no one told us though, and the point of this review, is that a full mile and a half straight of this hike is in full sun. We assumed, as with most hikes in the woods, that it would have mostly tree coverage. So please be aware! We started the loop on the left, which was lovely and mostly wooded and shaded. I wish we had started on the right and gotten the full sun out of the way early on. But next time, we will just do the blue trail (1.8 miles) twice, which looked like a better option. I hope this review helps our fellow hikers in the future. See more..

    - Astronomy for everyone: enchanting

This digital planetarium provides different astronomy and laser (with music) shows. The parking is easy in parking 7 with rapid access to the planetarium. There is a shop and an exhibit area while the planetarium itself is at the end of the exhibit area. The show we watched "Two small pieces of glass" was about the telescope and what could be observed the different types of telescope. It was didactic without being pedantic and it was understandable for teenagers too. This lasted around 40 min. The second show we watched was a laser show using the dome for the projections. Although I enjoyed the music, it was less impressive than observing space. See more..
  5. 2.5 Discover the Dinosaurs (5 reviews)
    - Biggest disappointment!!! Not worth the money
Spent < 1 hour Natural History Museums • Game & Entertainment Centers
It looked very nice on the website so we decided to give it a try. Tickets are 24 each for adults and kids, 72 for a family of 3, total rip-off after you see what’s expecting you inside. There is a big warehouse filled with small cheaply made “activity stations”, a few moving dinosaurs (without sounds effect), short boring Dino snow, large overpriced store in the middle and that’s it. You can see the disappointment at your kids faces after 10 minutes inside this “attraction”. Absolute ripoff for the “activities” they provide. Just don’t go, it’s so much not worth it. See more..

  7. 5.0 The American Labor Museum/Botto House National Landmark (2 reviews)
    - Excellent and interesting tour on local history with a national affect
Thursday: 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Speciality Museums • Natural History Museums • History Museums
The American Labor Museum/Botto House National Landmark image
The American Labor Museum is an interesting part of the American Labor Union history dealing with the rights of the Paterson, NJ silk workers. The Botto family's home was the site of this movement and the history of the strike and of the family's part of this movement was very interesting. Your tour the entire house with all the family living quarters with period furnishings and then you will visit the galleries on the second floor which deal with the Long-shore Workers. You exit the house with a tour of the grape arbor in the back and the root cellar where all the preserves were held. If you like local history and are part of a union, I think this is a very important museum to visit. See more..
  8. 3.0 Rutgers Geology Museum (2 reviews)
    - Small, but mighty (they even have a mummy)
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM Spent 1-2 hours Natural History Museums

It's a climb to the second floor, but it's worth it. So many unexpected finds! They have beautiful and fascinating samples of all kinds of minerals and fossils, local and from farther afield. The cases are not large, but they are well-labeled and have very interesting specimens. There's a whole case of different minerals (rocks) just from NJ and they show you how these things were mined locally, which I don't think you think of when you think of the Garden State. There's a small room in the back where they fluoresce rocks. There are mastodon tusks and dinosaur tracks. And, yes, there's a mummy! There are some interesting things in the upper balcony, too, so worth checking out. The college work study students were super nice to my 9-year-old nephew. They have a scavenger hunt (different versions for different ages) and when he finished it, he was rewarded with a cool prize--a piece of pyrite. See more..
