My husband and I took the Christmas grand tour of Drumthwacket, which is the official New Jersey Governor's mansion. It was marvelous! Before going, it was necessary to register online. Upon arrival, New Jersey State Troopers coordinated parking and entry into the mansion. At Christmas, various horticulture groups of New Jersey beautifully decorate the mansion, then their volunteers serve as docents in each room. Visitors were allowed to tour the Governor's formal dining room, the sun porch, the parlor, music and/or gathering room, the library and the Governor's office; and of course, all of the magnificent outdoor gardens and grounds. This visit was a Christmas treat. It was free of charge, and Christmas cookies from a local bakery were freely given out to visitors. I would highly recommend a tour of this wonderful mansion, which is especially beautiful at Christmas. I would've included photos, but photography is limited at the mansion. Parking was ample and also free of charge. See more..
  3. 4.0 Cumberland County Courthouse (2 reviews)
    - Elegant classical building, part of Bridgeton Historic District.
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Architectural Buildings • Government Buildings
I do not imagine anybody longing to see the inside of the courthouse in Bridgeton or anywhere else if they can help it. This spectacular building is located at the corner of Broad and Fayette Streets in Bridgeton. The current building was built in 1909. It is a part of the Bridgeton Historic District and the National Registry of Historic Places. Due to security it cannot be adviced to see it inside but it is certainly worth a glimpse from the outside. The prior Revolutionary War courthouse bell that rang out during the major events is now displayed in the lobby of the current courthouse but I have not seen it. See more..
