This view never gets old. We only get to visit here every couple years but visitors that come to NYC never get to see this spectacular view of the city from Hoboken. After a great meal in Hoboken, this was a great walk to end a wonderful evening. The city of Hoboken has done a great job with this river walk. See more..

A beautiful day to explore! So much fun during a rainy day, especially now when you want to spend a lot of time outside, away from people. Love that it is free and has a lot of interesting things to learn about. We traveled an hour to get here for a fun day drip and it did not disappoint! See more..

About three times a week we walk to and around the park. It's a lovely place to walk your canine companion with dog stations throughout and a water fountain just for Fido. There are places to sit and a lovely gazebo. It's a shame that some people don't appreciate it. See more..

  8. 4.5 Alpine Lookout (3 reviews)
    - Second of three lookouts on the way north on the Paljsaides Parkway
Spent < 1 hour Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
    Alpine Lookout image
There are no services here, but you can get a quite nice hike for a mile or so by going north -- it is pretty level along that stretch despite the warnings -- the drop off occurs a bit further on. The views are also quite good across the Hudson into Yonkers and parts of the Bronx. I can't decide which of the three lookouts I like better, so if I have time, I stop at all three. See more..
  9. 4.0 Natural Lands Trust Harold N. Peek Preserve (3 reviews)
    - Beautiful hiking area on Maurice River
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
Natural Lands Trust Harold N. Peek Preserve image
This network of some of our favorite hiking and biking trails is set in the beautiful nature preserve on tidal Maurice river. There is a designated parking in front of the access gate and the information booth with trail maps and instructions. There is no entrance fee. The trails are fairly well marked but some areas are closed January 1 till July 31 for the protection of nesting eagles and other birds. River Overlook is a lovely and picturesque place. There are many spectacular photo opportunities in the Peek Preserve and it is one of the favorite South Jersey bird watching areas especially for Bald Eagles. The boardwalk that extends over the wetlands allows for observation of wild rice marshes and their habitats. This is a must-see attraction for all the nature lovers. See more..
  10. 4.0 Taylor Wildlife Preserve and Farm (2 reviews)
    - Beautiful hiking area and 300 year old farm.
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
Taylor Wildlife Preserve and Farm image
We discovered this wildlife preserve by serendipity - always looking for new places to walk. It is a large complex of wetlands and a lovely wooded area of New Jersey Natural Lands Trust situated adjacent to the last farm remaining on the Delaware River between Camden and Trenton. The farm and land belongs to Taylor family for 300 years. There are two farm houses and at the time of our visit there was a small honor system farm stand with beautiful produce. According to information visitors can as well for a fee pick certain crops as self service. There is a 3 1/5 mile interesting hiking trail trail.Great for bird-watching and photography. The preserve is open to the public from sunrise to sunset every day. There is parking at the entrance but one can also drive deeper into the preserve and park closer to the farm if that is more convenient.. See more..
  11. 5.0 Dalton Farms (2 reviews)
    - Gorgeous fields of flowers
Thursday: 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM Farms • Scenic Walking Areas
    Dalton Farms image
The fields of sunflowers and zinnias are beautiful and we had no trouble selecting from the gorgeous varieties available. They suggest you bring your own scissors/ shears or a knife but if you forget they do have some there. On the weekends they have food trucks and music but we went on a Thursday. The weather was actually perfect for being out in the field in that it wasn’t sunny!! So we meandered through the rows of flowers to find the best blooms! The staff was very friendly and willingly shared pointers on selecting blooms to last. Highly recommend! See more..
  12. 5.0 Rutgers University Ecological Preserve (1 review)
    - Great place for family to hike
    Forests • Scenic Walking Areas
The Preserve is a wonderful place to hike, bike and walk your dog. The trails are probably the best marked and maintained of any hiking location I've visited in NJ. The are some hills but none or so rugged that children won't enjoy them. See more..
  13. 4.0 Fries Mill Ruins (1 review)
    - Ghost town and Pine Barrens hiking.
Spent 1-2 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas
    Fries Mill Ruins image
We learnt about this interesting place while looking for new hiking trails in South Jersey. Ruins of Fries Mill are hidden in Manumuskin River Preserve in the Pine Barrens of Southern NJ. It actually took us some time to find the ruins of this ghost town - old saw mill and grist mill, furnace and other buildings. To get there we hiked extensively initially along the railroad, then into the forest following the trail, along the river and to the lake. The whole area is very interesting including forest and bodies of water. Nice for nature lovers. The real fun is getting to the area of actual ruins. They are slightly camouflaged by the bushes and trees but the whole process of "discovery" gives you a bit of positive thrill. Great for urban explorers as well. Good place to park is along Port Elizabeth-Cumberland Road 646 close to where old railroad is perpendicular to it and crosses it. While hiking you will get to admire a lot of wildlife. Fries Mill Ruins are a nice destination for a day hike. Pack your lunch and enjoy it by the lake. See more..
