A second expedition to the wreck site went out in 1986 and that expedition was co-led by the owner of this museum. The artifacts you see throughout the ship are REAL and valued at over $4 million dollars. You'll be able to touch a growing iceberg, experience the 28 degree water, try and steer the ship and pay tribute to the 2,208 passengers and crew that were on the Titanic. You will enter as a guest and leave as a Titanic Passenger! See more..

Exhibits also share the history of what was once known as “State Lunatic Asylum No. 2” when it opened in 1874. The exhibits include surgical tools, treatment equipment, and doctor’s personal notes. Patient artwork, such as pottery, paintings and needlework, is also on display to give visitors an idea of how patients faced their daily challenges and expressed themselves through their art. NRA National Sporting Arms Museum image
First of all, the original bass pro shop is something to see in and of itself. So much to see for free, including the nra firearms museum. I would put this museum up with the Springfield National Armory in MA, the history is that good here. See firearms from literally every era, going all the way back to the 1500s. They have the fire arms of hero’s and notorious names. They have rifles and handguns that make you drool (if you like fire arms). The whole collection is very impressive and is laid out to help you understand the progression of firearms use and technology. I highly recommend this museum and the first Bass Pro Shop as a whole. Big River Train Town image
We popped into this shop to kill some time before taking a tour through the Haunted House on Hill Street next door. We hadn't anticipated going through the train town but when the owner saw us looking through the store she offered our family free admission! We were blown away at the magic when we stepped through the curtain. My kids loved it and so did my husband and I! It's very interactive with many different buttons that cause different reactions in the "town". The best part was watching the owner with my kids. She seemed to get so much joy out of watching the kids' excitement and enthusiasm. She offered them whistles and spent time playing and talking with the kids. It was obvious to us that she was a person that not only loves coming to work every day but also loves her customers (Even the non-paying ones!). We will definitely be back the next time we're in Hannibal! See more..

Something for Everyone! It is a unique collection that will amaze you! Open April 1st through October 31st Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Admission is free. Bus tours are welcome. The Ozark region is rich with history and has long been the subject of study to historians, geologists, anthropologists, and archeologists. Before the French fur trappers explored the area and European descendants began settling here, the people of the Osage tribe populated much of the land now known as Southern Missouri and Northern Arkansas. Other tribes, traveling through the region, traded with the Osage and left behind clues of their passage. Arrowheads were abundant in the area, and a large collection of over 10,000 hunting implements and artifacts were collected by the Arlis Cogar family who established the Trail of Tears Museum in Huntsville, AR. In 1993, the Prier family of Golden, MO, took over the Trail of Tears Museum Collection and combined it with their collection of Carnival Glass and American pioneer artifacts to create the Golden Missouri Pioneer Museum. The Prier family continues to expand the collection with unique and interesting collections. The Golden Pioneer Museum gives the visitor a unique look into the lives of early Americans, both Native and the settlers who came in the 1800s. The Early American Pattern Glass collection is abundant with rare examples of some of the finest American made pieces from the late 1800s and early 1900s including: * One of the largest collections of Carnival Glass in the Midwest * Stunning examples of Vaseline glassware, Black Amethyst glassware, Custard glass, Flo Blue, rare pieces of Klondike glass (including two Snyder vases), a large collection of toothpick holders, and numerous other types of rare glass * There are many other collections in the museum that include pocket watches, baseball cards, watches, guns, lunch boxes, rose bowls, as well as Civil War battlefield items. Historic Phelps House image
It is well worth booking an appointment to see this historical mansion. Interesting stories about the Phelps Family and we were surprised to see that this original house had indoor bathrooms with a full bathtub, had electric as well as gas lighting, and plenty of pictures and furnishings so that you can get a glimpse of what life must have been like living in this wonderful home. Free admission but it is definitely worth giving a nice contribution at the end of the tour to help with the upkeep of the house. See more..

Lone Jack Battlefield Museum and Soldier's Cemetery image
I happen to be one of those interested in visiting Civil War Battlegrounds. While many sites have fancy interactive displays and such, Lone Jack has done well to preserve the grounds, cemetery, and museum. I understand the funds were cut off by the state a while ago and the furnishings put into storage and lost. The townspeople have revived this site and even have a knowledgeable on site docent to answer any questions. The history of the battle is succinctly described in a few panels on the walls. There are a few dioramas depicting the battle as well as that of Westport. My attention was drawn to Order #11 that banished all residents from 4 counties during this war. The website has links to great references to this battle. Read up on it either before or after visiting the Museum and Cemetery. They have a circular driveway to park a motorhome with towed vehicle. The Uranus Sideshow Museum features oddities and historical pieces from Sideshows and Circuses of the past. At the entrance, you're greeted by Sideshow staff who are performers themselves such as Kat, the sword swallower. The magic shop is inside the entrance and visitors can pay to enter the museum to view more than 100 exhibits. The Museum features oddities such as two-headed animals, including our live two-headed turtle, historical sideshow pieces like Fiji Mermaids, and artifacts from famous sideshow performers in days gone by. Where else can you see unicorn skulls, shrunken heads, and even a chupacabra? Only in Uranus! These freaks of nature will make your mind run wild with our strange, unusual sights. Check out our incredibly rare two-headed bull shark! Bring the family and explore our intriguing display. See more..

Haunted House on Hill Street Wax Museum image
This place was closed last time we were in Hannibal, so it was one of the first places we hit when we were here again! All the wax figures were lumped together in one room, and the "haunted" part was just that: a small "haunted" area I think was a hallway with rooms partitioned off with displays. Yes, it was kind of small and cheesy, but we liked it! Shouldn't be too scary for little ones. See more..
