This is a must see if you're in Springfield Mo. Absolutely bring the kids to teach them about freedom, and show them the men and women who fought and died for our freedom. The grounds are pristine and the place is beautiful. A very humbling experience to see so many veterans who gave their lives for ALL of us. Visit this place, teach your kids, support our veterans, and donate to them in any way you can. See more..
We were flying blind when we came into Mansfield looking for the Laura Ingalls Wilder home and ended up driving by this little cemetery on the hill. After we finished our tour of the house and museum, we decided to go back to the cemetery and find their graves. Seemed like the right thing to do to show our respect for the lives these people lived. We looked up the grave on "findagrave.com" so we knew exactly what size, color, and shape the marker was. We parked under the tree and walked to the gravesite of Laura, her husband, and daughter.See more..

4.5Jefferson City National Cemetery(6 reviews) - Very Peaceful Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Cemeteries • Monuments & Statues
We visited this National Cemetery on Memorial Day. It is not large as others we've seen, but it does have a sobering presence the same as the larger National Cemeteries. There was a US flag on each gravestone, a reminder that each one has given the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.See more..

4.5Laurel Hill Cemetery(2 reviews) - Beautiful cemetery in Weston.. Spent < 1 hour Cemeteries
I really enjoy the architecture of historic cemeteries and this was one of the best I have been to. The cemetery is fairly good sized and there is a road that runs thru it but it is so narrow it's best to leave your car parked outside the gate. Along the narrow road are signs that explain what prominent city member was buried where, what was going on in the city at the time, etc. It was really very interesting to have that additional information. Part of the cemetery had graves for slaves, which was one of the few cemeteries accepting bodies of African Americans at that time.See more..

5.0Howell County War Memorial(1 review) - A sobering experience. Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Cemeteries • Monuments & Statues
Howell County is a remote, small town rural area of Missouri. To see the list of names of so many who gave their lives from this area - very moving. I would suggest that everyone visiting West Plains see this, prevent war.See more..
The entrance to this cemetery is well hidden along Hwy 79 between Hannibal and the Mark Twain Cave complex. We passed it several times before we saw it. Also, the road from the highway to the cemetery is almost a 4-wheel drive road. It's short but gravel with deep ruts. When you get to the cemetery, there are old, interesting graves to see and great views of the river. We were glad we found it, and we were the only ones there at the time. I would give it 5 stars except for the difficulty of finding it and getting there.See more..
