Jacob's Cave is an amazing place. There is no way to get a sense of what it is like inside a cave like this one from photographs or videos. Time slows to a crawl inside of a cave. An inch of stalagmite might be 100 years in formation. Yet there is life, and there are indications of the presence of other humans, from years or centuries past. Perhaps most amazing of all is the sense of being encompassed within the Earth and feel its organic nature. The Earth is a living thing, it sustains life, and without it the universe is uninhabitable to us. Going inside the Earth is the best way to feel its own organic existence, and so to better understand our relationship with it. And lastly, hands down, Jonna was without question the most impressive tour guide I have experienced, in a lifetime. Her knowledge and passion were most inspiring. See more..

    - A descent into the earth...

This attraction is well worth the drive. I'm very surprised that it's so unknown. It's a massive sinkhole that leads down into a 80-100 deep underground lake. When you take the steps down into the hole, a sensor will activate a light so that you can see into the lake, which is far below the viewing platform. It's an incredible experience. The water from the underground lake apparently flows from Cave Spring which is about a mile away (you can easily hike to this cave from Devil's Well.) There is also this gorgeous lookout on the Cave Spring trail. The whole park is beautiful and unique. Cave Spring (if you hike there) was apparently the spot that famous artist Thomas Hart Benton (an Ozarks native) painted his famous work "Cave Spring." One word of advice for getting to the park: do not take the route with Aker's Ferry. The ferry is not in service (even though all the signs claim that it is.) Take 19 up there instead. See more..
