  1. 4.5 The Gateway Arch (12.6k reviews)
    - A Must do
Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Observation Decks & Towers • Monuments & Statues

From the thrilling views to the amazing stories, a visit to the Gateway Arch is an experience that never fails to inspire. Whether you have a few hours or a full day, you’ll find activities to please every member of your party. Attractions include the Tram Ride to the Top of the Gateway Arch, the Museum at the Gateway Arch (opened July 3, 2018), a documentary film about the construction of the Arch, shopping at The Arch Store, a new Arch Cafe, and cruises aboard the Riverboats at the Gateway Arch. 2. 4.5 Branson Landing Fountain Show (2.359 reviews)
    - Bellagio 2.0
Thursday: 12:00 PM - 10:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • Fountains
    Branson Landing Fountain Show image
Nighttime show with fire incorporated with the fountains was not quite the scale of the Bellagio in Vegas, but was great with fire, fountains, colored lights and music. They utilize firework sort of to launch the water higher, which could be scary for young kids possibly. The last sho of the night has fewer people. If you get too close and depending on the way the wind blows, those up front might get wet. There are a lot of restaurants and shops down near the show. I recommend seeing it after dark. See more..
  3. 4.5 Old Courthouse (1.054 reviews)
    - Perfect complement to the Arch
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Government Buildings
    Old Courthouse image
Walk the halls where ordinary Americans made civil rights history. Built in 1839, the Old Courthouse is a prime example of mid-19th century federal architecture. But it is two landmark cases that secure its place in history. Beginning in 1847, the enslaved Dred Scott twice sued for his and his wife Harriet’s freedom. But, the U.S. Supreme Court decided against them, ruling that African-Americans were not citizens and had no right to sue. In 1873, St. Louis suffragette Virginia Minor and her husband filed a civil suit arguing for women’s right to vote. Although their suit was denied, they brought great attention to the fight for voting rights for all U.S. citizens. See more..
  4. 4.5 City Garden (753 reviews)
    - Art Activating a Park
Thursday: 8:00 AM - 7:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    City Garden image
This is a great urban park that uses art to engage citizens, both adults and children and it is totally free to walk through. St Louis has about 20 pieces of sculpture art that it has used to create this downtown experience just west of the Arch and Courthouse. Going west from the Arch, St Louis had created a park mall through the city but originally left as green space. Two of the those bulks were converted to this Sculpture Garden that were beautiful, entertaining and active. My wife and I really enjoyed this and wish we had had more time to visit. I highly recommend you plan to stop by. Check out the pictures of the art. See more..
  5. 4.5 Gateway Arch National Park (503 reviews)
    - Must See & Do
Thursday: 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks • National Parks
    Gateway Arch National Park image
A must see and do while visiting St. Louis! From the museum to the views at the top, it’s all worth it! If you want to ride to the top, I recommend booking your tickets online before you arrive to get the time slot you want. Same day tickets are not guaranteed. Note the tram pods to the top are very small and it’s cramped, but it only takes 4 minutes to get to the top then 3 minutes back down. It’s best to go with a group of people you know or you’ll be camped in with strangers. I do wish they would allow more than roughly 8 minutes at the top. The views are amazing! If you aren’t able to take a ride to the top, the park grounds with paved pathways and the FREE museum are worth exploring! There’s beautiful scenery all around from the river and downtown. It’s a well kept and clean place. See more..
  6. 4.0 Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse (262 reviews)
    - Quick Stop with Stairs
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Lighthouses • Scenic Walking Areas
    Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse image
This is maybe a 30-45 minute stop depending on if you’re starting at the very bottom and climbing all 240 steps or parking towards the top and climbing less steps. You can’t go into the lighthouse but it is a memorial to Mark Twain and worth the stop. We saw it during the late afternoon but it is lit for nighttime viewing so that may be a prettier time to see it. It’s worth the quick stop. See more..

  8. 4.0 Swinging Bridge (230 reviews)
    - It was fascinating and a little nerve wracking (in a good way).
Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Bridges
    Swinging Bridge image
I only live a little over an hour from here near Columbia, MO so I have been here several times. For me these old bridges may be an hour distant, but they are a world away. I've always been interested in history, especially how people traveled, communicated, and interacted, especially in rural areas. There are actually 2 bridges on this road, both of which are well worth going out of the way if you are planning on visiting Lake of the Ozarks. I'd especially say to make the effort to see these if you are from a large urban area, they are a fascinating contrast to city life, and a interesting glimpse into rural life in the early part of the 20th century. These would also be an excellent place to visit for someone interested in civil engineering. See more..
  9. 4.0 The World's Largest Fork (212 reviews)
    - A giant fork
Thursday: 12:00 AM - 11:59 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
    The World's Largest Fork image
What do you expect...It's a giant fork! That's it! It's funny that it is considered an "attraction." It's located in front of an office building so I'm sure the employees get a kick out of watching people take pictures with the fork. Previous pictures we saw showed a plaque on the ground beside the fork, but there was no plaque when we went. It was so awkward, it was funny! See more..

    Red Oak II image
Off the beaten path but an absolutely perfect stop. We had no idea what this place was really going to be like and were so surprised and thrilled we had picked it for one of our Route 66 stops. It was unseasonably hot for mid May, it was 96 degrees but we walked all over the place and hot or not we didn't want to miss out on seeing anything. I really want to go back again and see it all again. See more..

  14. 4.5 St. Louis Carousel at Faust Park (122 reviews)
    - Take a fun ride back in time.
Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM Points of Interest & Landmarks
St. Louis Carousel at Faust Park image
This takes us back in time. This carousel is from The Forest Park Highlands, which was an amusement park across from Forest Park. It was popular in the early to mid 1900's. Unfortunately, the amusement park burned down in about 1960. The carousel was saved fortunately. It is a beautiful piece of art work and well worth taking a ride. Many of us had school picnics there and my aunt and uncle met there. See more..

Top of the Rock Ozarks Heritage Preserve image
We had a friend recommend coming up here for lunch, did not really know what to expect. There is a $10.00 fee to park, at the entrance. We thought about doing the golf cart, but it was $42.00 a person, so that was a no! The girl said to take the free shuttle to the top and said it was worth seeing. Boy was she right!!! We explored the restaurant’s four stories, walked around the grounds, went in the cute chapel, were in awe of the giant sink hole that did away with the driving range and pond. Wow!!! Saw beautiful Native America works of art all through the restaurant. Did not do the museum, but will next time. Took tons of pictures. The $10.00 parking fee is all we spent, plus I did buy a $12.00 ornament in the gift shop. Definitely do this little excursion! See more..

  19. 4.5 The Noland Home (73 reviews)
    - Free, great accompaniment to Truman home & library/museum
    Points of Interest & Landmarks
    The Noland Home image
Catty-cornered across the street from the Truman home, this is the home of Harry’s close cousins. In fact, so many Truman and Wallace (Bess, Truman’s wife) lived around here, it was known as a “compound.” This spot was full of rarely seen photos of Truman, his family, and early life. One of the photos of he and his cousins read, “this is us,” and I found that touching. It’s discusses Truman’s early life, his courtship/engagement/marriage, and his business ventures and failures. I felt like this was a great accompaniment to the Truman home and primer for the Presidential Library and museum. Free and open, worthwhile. See more..

Trails End Monument is a wonderful attraction in Sedalia. Though it is visible from the two major streets, it is worth getting out and exploring in detail by walking around the monument. A nice sidewalk has been built just for that. The parking lot for the monument is accessible through the Missouri State Fair grounds. The well-built historical monument depicts the history of trails and railroad of Sedalia. A free audio tour can be dialed up on the phone while walking around the monument. A brand new center has replaced the old one. An interesting spot with a lot of WWII history. The new center has meeting rooms, class rooms and covers a lot more area. I saw this masterpiece on a billboard and decided I HAD to see it. I read the reviews here on trip advisor and everyone was complaining about how steep the hill was. You fools you complete and utter fools. Its very easy to get up and down if you stand sideways and lean into the hill. I would not bring a small child here but my mother got up in FLIP FLOPS!! Other than trip advisor lying to me, the frog was wonderful. The frog was big enough to sit on and take some pretty cool pictures. I wouldn't rate this as a travel destination, but since we were in Rolla for the night we decided to see this. While other reviewers were correct that it wasn't an actual replica, it was still worth the time to go. My husband remarked that he learned more from reading the plaques and standing next to the stones than from watching all the History Channel shows about Stonehenge. I have been to Ste. Gen a number of times over the years but this was the first time I have visited the Guibourd house. I am glad I took the time because it ended up being a great experience. Our tour guide had grown up locally and was very entertaining as she spoke about the history of the house. What truly set the house apart from many of the other museums in town was the attic. It is filled with the original Norman trusses that supported the roof and the structure. It is very impressive and elegant to see up close. Anyone with an interest in historic architecture will love this house. See more..
