    Willmore Lodge image
Unfortunately, we arrived just before the place closed at 3 pm on a Saturday. We were able to take a quick look around but not able to go out onto the porch for a view as it was already closed. I did take a walk down to the gazebo and small garden area, however. There was a ton of information about the area and the building of the dam. Luckily much of that was available elsewhere. 3. 4.0 Hall of Waters Visitors Center (122 reviews)
    - Not what you think......
    Thursday: 10:00 AM - 4:45 PM Spent < 1 hour Visitor Centers
Hall of Waters Visitors Center image
This was not what we thought it was.....It was a beautiful building with a water bar in it....I think we both thought it was a hall with water flowing thru it. It is an example of beautiful art deco design and the longest water "bar" in the country. Ah if you could only go back in time and witness it in it's heyday! The light fixtures and building design were something to behold. Don't miss the spa museum....it's easy to miss. It is interesting as well. The front door design is fabulous if you are into architecture.....You don't see design, craftmanship like this these days....I am a history and building junkie....So I loved just being in the building. Water is a big deal! See more..

  6. 4.5 Independence Visitors' Center (56 reviews)
    - Fascinating history of a religious movement even if you aren't Mormon
    Visitor Centers
    Independence Visitors' Center image
We were unaware of the importance Missouri played in the development of the Mormon church. We had been to Salt Lake City and stopped at the Visitor Center there and so thought we would see what they had to offer. We had a guided tour by a young sister who was spending time here as part of her mission work. She explained the exhibits and gave us some of the history of the development of Mormonism. She was not shy about what it mean to her, but was also not imposing on us as non-Mormons. There is no Temple in Independence (there is in Kansas City). The Church of Christ Temple across the street is part of a breakaway group. The exhibits were well done and informative about the development of the religion. See more..
