Loved this museum. I learned so much about the Army Engineers. Only complaint was that the museum was open until 4 pm but the gift shop closed at 12. We were not told of this when we went to the museum so when we finished touring the museum the gift shop was already closed. See more..

  4. 4.5 US Army Military Police Corps Museum (41 reviews)
    - MP Mecca

Great, albeit a bit small, MP museum. Its nice that the building also houses the Chemical Corps and Engineer museum. One problem with the MP museum: there is an exhibit that has a touch screen with the listing of MP units. The listing does not include National Guard and Reserve units. Come on, the old days of active duty being better than the reserve components are over. See more..

This is an excellent museum. You walk through at your own pace. The artifacts are impressive. The displays take the visitor through the years - from horses to cars, weaponry, clothing, tools, etc. The items made by prisoners were very interesting. The paintings and drawings are wish taking time to look at as well. There is even a section of the Berlin Wall on display. Across the road are various out of commission tanks and vehicles. If you are visiting someone with access to Ft Lenard Wood, ask to go to the museum. You won't be disappointed! See more..
  8. 4.0 Lone Jack Battlefield Museum and Soldier's Cemetery (21 reviews)
    - Worth going out of the way to see

Lone Jack Battlefield Museum and Soldier's Cemetery image
I happen to be one of those interested in visiting Civil War Battlegrounds. While many sites have fancy interactive displays and such, Lone Jack has done well to preserve the grounds, cemetery, and museum. I understand the funds were cut off by the state a while ago and the furnishings put into storage and lost. The townspeople have revived this site and even have a knowledgeable on site docent to answer any questions. The history of the battle is succinctly described in a few panels on the walls. There are a few dioramas depicting the battle as well as that of Westport. My attention was drawn to Order #11 that banished all residents from 4 counties during this war. The website has links to great references to this battle. Read up on it either before or after visiting the Museum and Cemetery. They have a circular driveway to park a motorhome with towed vehicle.
