    Katy Trail State Park image
We parked in the free public lot at the Lewis & Clark Boat House in St. Charles at 1050 South Riverside Drive. Only a couple dozen cars were doing similar on the late June Saturday morning we visited; it seemed like the lot was large enough for a couple hundred cars. We exercise walked 10 miles along the trail by venturing out and back from the lot in both the upriver and down river directions. The trail was wide, flat, and nicely surfaced; easy for bike riding. We did not see any mile markers. See more..

Great ride on the Katy Trail. Rode from Defiance to Hermann on day one. Stayed at the Captain Wohlt Inn. Dinner at the Harvest Table. Dessert at the Deli. Day two we rode back to Augusta for a stay at the Lindenhof B&B. We did make a stop for some refreshments at Peet’s Store and enjoyed some live music. Snacks at Augusta Brewery and ordered pizza from Saucey’s for a dinner in. Day three was a quick ride from Augusta to Defiance. See more..

    - Great biking and walking trail
    Biking Trails
    Al Foster Memorial Trail image
This is a great biking trail and much of it is in the shade. We went on a very hot day and the shade made it pleasant. For the first part of the trail you can see the train tracks winding through the woods and they occasionally cross the path. You can also catch glimpses of the river through the trees on the first part of the trail. The trail itself is made of mostly packed dirt with some small gravel thrown in here in there. we will definitely be back because we were unable to do the entire trail on our visit. See more..

I needed a day pack for my bicycle and rode up on a day that the store was closed. The owner was nearby, saw me, asked me what I needed, opened the store, and took care of me as if I was a longtime customer. I had never met the man before in my life. What great customer service! See more..

This is a great view and trail. We didn't bring bikes, but still wanted to enjoy the trail. We walked part of the trail and it's worth a trip if you want to enjoy the outdoors. It's just north of downtown Hermann about 2-3 miles, not crowded, and free! See more..
  10. 5.0 Katy Trail (4 reviews)
    - The perfect long distance trail
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
This trail gives you the opportunity to ride for 230 miles across Missouri with mite we having to worry about traffic. It is an amazing journey through the heartland of America. The old railroad has been transformed into a crushed limestone trail that is beautifully maintained with good trail heads and amenities at the old rail road stations about every 12 miles. It is possible to ride just portions or the entire trail which we did in 6 days at about 40 miles a day staying in the small towns along the way. We went with an excellent outfitter, Wilderness Voyageurs, but it is also possible to do it on your own with a little planning . Hybrid bikes, not road bikes or mountain bikes, work well. 40 miles is more tiring on crushed limestone versus pavement, the preferred direction is west to east in part because of the prevailing winds which weren't bad. This is America at it's best!!! See more..
  11. 5.0 Dardenne Greenway (2 reviews)
    - Two beautiful & unique parks, linked
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Gardens
    Dardenne Greenway image
Beautiful prairie loop and (adjacent) lake loop with paved trails and picturesque sunrise / sunset foregrounds. The two loops are linked together by a paved trail that passes under Henning Road. The prairie loop (to the east) is accessed via a long straight out-and-back from the car park. The lake loop (see attached map) proceeds west. I encountered very friendly patrons of the trails, with respectful dog walkers and a few runners. Total mileage for the prairie out-and-back loop and the lake loop was approximately 2.5 miles. 12. 5.0 Rock Island Trailhead (2 reviews)
    - Thoroughly enjoyable trail
Biking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Rock Island Trailhead image
Rock Island Trail in Lee’s Summit is an awesome trail for biking, hiking, walking and running. This is supposed to be a long trail currently in phases of construction, and the section that is open is about 6 miles long running basically north-south. It is the old Rock Island rail line that is being commendably repurposed for recreation. There are several trailheads, but the best equipped is at Hartman Park. The trail runs about 4 north from this trailhead. These are the most beautiful and most enjoyable miles of the trail for bike riding since there are no road crossings. The path is paved with hard packed fine gravel and is pretty smooth. Mile markers are posted every 0.2 miles. There trail is almost all the time in the shade of trees. The ride through the cool Vale Tunnel should not be missed. Also, there are connecting nature trails running in the woods. Rock Island Trail is one of the best trails in the area. Kudos to Lee’s Summit. See more..

  15. 5.0 Devreaux Ridge (1 review)
    - Jeep and Mountain Bike Playground
    Biking Trails
One of the best things about off-roading in the Devreaux Ridge area is that if your stay on the "inside" of the "circle" formed by Devreaux and Garrison Road, you can't possibly get lost! All the trails eventually T into one or the other of those main gravel roads. The trails vary, but you can certainly get a great bike workout in, or do some challenging 4-wheeler trails in a Jeep. Go self-sufficient with whatever vehicle you take, as it is unlikely you'll see anyone else out there, and the nearest help is quite some distance away. Have fun! See more..
  16. 5.0 Happy Rock Trail (1 review)
    - Short but lovely trail
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Happy Rock Trail image
Happy Rock Trail in Gladstone is a sweet trail for biking, hiking, walking and running. Confusingly, it is also signed as Shoal Creek Trail. The trail starts from the huge Happy Rock Park. Happy Rock Park is a community park consisting of Tennis courts, Dog parks, Softball/Baseball fields, Soccer fields, Children playgrounds, etc. There is also a charging station for electric cars. The trail mostly runs north from Happy Rock Park to the trailhead at Barry Road covering a gorgeous distance of a little over two miles. The loop around Happy Rock Park will add another mile or so. The trail is smoothly concrete paved and provides shade most of the time. Wildlife including birds are abundant. There is a branch trail that runs west next to the busy Highway 1; I did not find this section worthwhile while biking. Happy Rock Trail is a very enjoyable trail very popular with residents. 17. 5.0 Missouri Riverfront Trail (1 review)
    - Nice trail for a cloudy cool day
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
    Missouri Riverfront Trail image
Missouri Riverfront Trail is a nice bike ride on a cool / cloudy day because no shade is available once one gets on the levy. There are several trailheads to access the trail. I used the one near Parkville, and the access path goes through the flood plains which could be flooded in rains. The trail on the levy is smooth nicely packed gravel and it is very maintained meticulously. It would be nice if mile markers were posted along the trail. At the Parkville trailhead there is about a half-mile side trail that is supposed to go to Riverside, but unfortunately it ends abruptly in less than half a mile. See more..
  18. 5.0 Prairie Creek Greenway (1 review)
    - Nice bike trail but coul dbe better
Spent 1-2 hours Biking Trails • Parks • Hiking Trails
    Prairie Creek Greenway image
Prairie Creek Greenway Trail is a nice bike trail paved with asphalt. The two main trailheads are the North and South Trailheads. The map at the North trailhead was pretty faded from sunlight, and I took the path on the right side from the parking lot which took me into town after a long ride. It is the path on the path on the left that leads to the Greeenway trail. The about four mile long bike trail is quite beautiful. The loop includes about a mile along ride a major road, which I did not ride. But the rest of the ride through the wooded trail next to the creek was beautiful and enjoyable. I did not see any mile markers on the trail!. Prairie Creek Greenway Trail could be more enjoyable with better signage. See more..
  19. 5.0 Fishing River Trail (1 review)
    - Beautiful Paved Trail
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Fishing River Trail image
Fishing River Trail in Kearney is an awesome trail for riding a bike or for walking, running. Perhaps because of the small town population, I did not see too many people on this about 4-mile long trail. The loop trail is paved all the way through with concrete or asphalt and is in very good condition. The trail traverses a variety of scenery including farmland, residential back yards, shady trees, and runs next to the Fishing River creek some pf the way. The only thing missing was trail signs anywhere along the trail or trail map. Distance markers posted on the pavement of the trail itself appeared to be from the nearby school athletic team. In spite of the missing trail info, Fishing River Trail is a beautiful trail. Look up the map on the internet before you go so that you are aware of some of the unmarked intersections with roads. 20. 5.0 Platte Landing Park (1 review)
    - Lovely Community Park for people and dogs
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Platte Landing Park image
Platte Landing Park in Parkville is a community park that provides a variety of avenues for beautiful outdoor exercise next to the great Missouri River. There is a pretty flat about 3 km long loop trail with hard packed fine gravel and is very popularly used for walking, running and bicycle riding. The trail provides great views of the river and forest trees. It could also be a good birding trail. The trail surrounds a large dog park which is heavily used. There is a picnic shelter at the trailhead. The park is adjacent to the small Sullivan Sanctuary (good for birding). This newer park adjoins the older English Landing Park. Platte Landing Park is a park is well worth a visit. See more..
  21. 1.0 Matson Hill Park (1 review)
    - Only Allows Bikes and Hikes
Biking Trails • Parks • Hiking Trails
St. Charles County has dozens a parks throughout the county. Candidly too many I believe our tax dollars could be spent in other areas. Nonetheless there are only 2 equine friendly parks (one can be ridden in 30 minutes). Matson Hill Park would be a perfect area for equine trails to accommodate many of the local residence who own horses. Our public parks should be used to accommodate more than just cyclists! 22. 5.0 Lake Vista Trail (1 review)
    - Beautiful, but don't do the full loop!
    Biking Trails • Hiking Trails
    Lake Vista Trail image
Lake Vista Trail in Blue Springs is a fine-gravel paved trail next to lake Blue Springs. It is advertised as a 5-mile loop but about a mile of that is on the shoulders of a 4-lane highway with speed limit of 45 mph. I would certainly advise not doing the loop so as to avoid this stretch. In spite of this unwelcome section, the rest of the trail is very enjoyable, especially for hiking. One can manage riding a bike here but the trail is not made for coasting. Three miles of the trail are through forest chirping with birds (when I went). Mile markers are posted every 0.2 miles. Some stretches may be muddy after rains. Lake Vista Trail is an excellent place for running or walking. Please be aware that no trail maps are posted at the trailheads or on the trail; so look up before you go. See more..
  23. 5.0 Winterset Nature Area (1 review)
    - Short trail, but lovely nature
Biking Trails • Hiking Trails • Jogging Paths & Tracks
    Winterset Nature Area image
Winterset Nature Area in Lee’s Summit is a nature forest hiking area taking advantage of a creek. The fabulous Hartman Park serves as the trailhead for this trail. The loop trail (a less than a mile) is paved with woodchips. A part of the loop runs along Cedar Creek. The trail meanders through different types of trees and wildflowers, wood bridges and waterfalls. I heard and saw lots of birds during my walk. The highlight was the stop at the waterfall area where quite a few people were enjoying a dip in the waters on a hot day. See more..
