4.0Mark Twain Memorial Lighthouse(262 reviews) - Quick Stop with Stairs Spent < 1 hour Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Lighthouses • Scenic Walking Areas
This is maybe a 30-45 minute stop depending on if you’re starting at the very bottom and climbing all 240 steps or parking towards the top and climbing less steps. You can’t go into the lighthouse but it is a memorial to Mark Twain and worth the stop. We saw it during the late afternoon but it is lit for nighttime viewing so that may be a prettier time to see it. It’s worth the quick stop.See more..
4.5Top of the Rock Ozarks Heritage Preserve(104 reviews) - Breathtaking Views! Spent More than 3 hours Points of Interest & Landmarks • Lookouts • Scenic Walking Areas
We had a friend recommend coming up here for lunch, did not really know what to expect. There is a $10.00 fee to park, at the entrance. We thought about doing the golf cart, but it was $42.00 a person, so that was a no! The girl said to take the free shuttle to the top and said it was worth seeing. Boy was she right!!! We explored the restaurant’s four stories, walked around the grounds, went in the cute chapel, were in awe of the giant sink hole that did away with the driving range and pond. Wow!!! Saw beautiful Native America works of art all through the restaurant. Did not do the museum, but will next time. Took tons of pictures. The $10.00 parking fee is all we spent, plus I did buy a $12.00 ornament in the gift shop. Definitely do this little excursion! See more..

I went here alone and hiked the trail behind the spring and viewed the little cave behind where the spring begins. I was impressed, it’s well kept. There were park rangers there if anyone had questions and the trail provided even more breathtaking views although it was steep and rocky in some places. See more..
4.5George Owens Nature Park(2 reviews) - A Great 86 acre park within the City Limits of Independence, MO Spent 1-2 hours Scenic Walking Areas George Owens Nature Park is in the City of Independence,Mo, just North of the Jim Bridger Middle School. Just turn North off 23rd St/M78, so is easy to get to. The 86 acre park is open year round, and has a blacktopped walking trail that leads to a fishing lake. There are group picnic areas, and a pavilion that can be rented for family gatherings. At different times of the year the trail is used for special displays, such as the Snowman Trail at Christmas time until January 31. The two weekends prior to Halloween it is used for Enchanted Forest, which has volunteers at about a dozen stations that have displays for children based upon fairy-tail books. The DeWitt Center also has inside nature displays. The hours are from 8:30 to 5:00 Tuesday through Saturday, and closed Sundays and Mondays.See more..
4.0Mallinson Vineyard and Hall(1 review) - Simple, friendly, great outdoor areas Wednesday: Spent 1-2 hours Historic Sites • Points of Interest & Landmarks • Scenic Walking Areas who'da figured in Sugar Creek there'd be a winery? We stopped in last weekend and really liked a couple of the wines. The tasting host was really informative and enjoyable to visit with. There's some snack options available. The key to the place I think is the outdoor seating areas, both on deck as well as open air where they also can hold events/weddings/etc. I wasn't aware of this place, but am glad we found it!See more..
