The Mother Church of the Archdiocese of Saint Louis, the superstructure of the Cathedral was built between 1907 and 1914. The Cathedral's 100th Anniversary is being celebrated in 2014. It is known for its' beautiful interior mosaics, which took nearly 80 years to create using more than 41 million pieces of glass tesserae. The National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church is dedicated to Mary and all mothers. Our mission is to promote a true appreciation of motherhood, the preciousness of life and the integrity of the family. The Shrine has become known as The Mother's Shrine because of our Mother's Wall of Life. We have a beautiful outdoor grotto where we celebrate pilgrimages, mass, and other celebrations. The Shrine was dedicated in 1992 with the installation of the sculpture of Mary. It was formally designated a National Shrine in 2003. We have a church on site, St. Patrick's Shrine Church. We also have a gift shop and we have several festivals throughout the year. Christmas Festival of Lights is from Thanksgiving to New Years. Come drive through and sip a hot beverage while you look in the gift shop. Our business office hours are 8am-4pm Monday-Friday. The Shrine is open from 6am-10pm Daily. Saint Duschesne is the ONLY Catholic Saint ever lifted to Sainthood in this entire metropolitan area. St. Charles is blessed...blessed to have such a holy site in our area. As an old Catholic boy, this is an amazing and reverent location. STRONGLY recommend for any Christian to visit.See more..

Old St Vincent's Church was part of a tour of Cape Girardeau offered by American Queen Steamboat Company. An older native stone church was built on the site overlooking the Mississippi River in 1838 by a Vincentian priest to replace a temporary church in a warehouse . That church was destroyed in 1850 by a tornado, and a new church in English Gothic Revival style was promptly begun incorporating stone from the destroyed church. Old St. Vincent's is one of only several churches remaining in the U.S. of English Gothic architectural style. A spire was added to the church in 1900 but it was struck by lightning and destroyed by fire in 1905. The present steeple dates from 1912. Restoration of the church was begun in 1977 and went on for 20 years. In 1982 the church was placed on the National Register of Historic Places because of it's historic significance to the area.See more..

The moment my husband and I walked in we knew we had found the church we had been looking for, for quite some time, well since we moved back to Missouri. The worship music was playing, but it wasn't too loud! It was lovely music we were familiar with from Bethel church in Redding CA. The sermon was given by Misty Benson who come to find out co- pastors with her husband Shawn Benson. The message was Biblical, thought provoking, convicting and right on the money. I was thrilled to see a woman preaching and asked about it after church. They also utilize Todd Griffith at times who is also excellent behind the pulpit. The congregation shocked Bruce and I with their smiles and caring, it was amazing. We even had one gal invite us to dinner!See more..

Because there are no restaurants large enough to handle a group of 50 Tourists for lunch, a group of church ladies decided to provide lunch for visitors. They were wonderful and the food was home prepared and cooked by them. It was delicious. They have been doing this for large groups visiting their city for years, After the meal we got a tour of the church and the beautiful stained glass windows. They have an elevator to get up to the sanctuary so you don't have to walk up and down the steps. Great experience.See more..
