Helzberg Hall is the one-half of the Kauffman where the Kansas City Symphony plays. The warm maple wood throughout, the excellent seating, the changeable lighting and, of course, the excellent acoustics make for a lovely evening. When I first visited this performance venue not long after it opened, between songs, the singer spoke about the performance hall and then snapped his fingers. I was sitting one level below the back seats and could clearly hear his fingers snap. He made his point. Last year, I saw the symphony play in concert with the Star Wars movie, “The Empire Strikes Back”. I had seen the movie upon its initial release and it’s my favorite Star Wars movie. Well, to hear the symphony play the soundtrack in all its glory (dialogue is captioned) sent me soaring. It’s one of the best entertainments I have attended.See more..

This is a hard one to rate, as the facility is amazing. I've never seen anything like it. Huge capacity (11,000) and state of the art technology. The production of Camelot was underwhelming, however. The cast was not as strong as I had expected. The feamle lead was a fabulous singer but not good at delivering lines. The Muny keeps up an impossible schedule of shows and I can only imagine how difficult it must be to produce so many shows in such a short amount of time. Hats off to the orchestra, an often-forgotten support crew. Sound and lights are very good. Still, I recommend this spectacle and the delight of being entertained under the stars. Relaxing way to watch the movie. Lounge chair recliners are very comfortable. Don't come tired or you'll fall asleep. Screen size may vary in the different theaters within the Galaxy but what they call 'regular screen' is huge. Sound if very excellent. Theater is clean, and has a large concession stand. When you buy your ticket, you choose your seat from a board and the seat numbers are written automatically on your ticket. I’ve been coming here for years and absolutely love it! They always play first run movies as a double feature and charge what a theater charges for one movie. They open the gates at 7pm the movie starts about 8:50pm or when it turns dark. We always get there before the gate opens because they let you bring your BBQ grill as long as you get their free identification flag to put by it to identify something hot on the ground when it turns dark. They have a bin you dump your hot coals when you leave. We love having a BBQ picnic before the movie!! They also have a good snack bar with great prices if you don’t want to bring anything. In front of the screen they have the traditional Drive-In playground. With room to toss a frisbee or football. They thankfully do not allow alcohol so things stay tame but there is still armed security if needed.
